so many options but this (if it comes to aus) will be it!

The all new CB1000R (dumped the Hornet name along with the bland styling)
FUCCCCK me its HOT (did i mention its the same engine as the CBR1000RR...)

Chassis features usually found on modern sportbikes include radial mount brake calipers, adjustable suspension and state-of-the-art inline 998cc engine bring the new Honda CB1000R front and center in the naked bike wars. The next aspect to leave a strong impression is its size, or lack of it. Remarkably, the CB1000R looks and feels more like a compact mid-sized sportbike than the full-bodied litre-class performer it really is.

God damn thats a hot bike....love honda cars, but never been a fan of their bikes. But im really liking his one !!!

I know you dont really buy a bike because of the exhaust sound, but honda bikes never really did it for me in that department.

ZX10R with an akrapovic exhaust.....FUCK ME they sound hot....

Wish I could ride again :(

You're not the only one, awesome bikes.

I'm still stuck on a speed triple idea. I intentionally haven't ridden one cause I reckon I'll love it.

I love the current bike when up putty and somewhere that you can use it's power, but it's frustrating to ride on normal sydneys roads, cause you can't use it's potential. At least speed triple gearing is more orientated towards sydney roads, but not as orienated towards putty... argh, I normally go through this argument in my head and give up. Reality? I need two bikes.

Thats true. A lot of people who bought DEUS are seen in the eyes of many as having 'bought into' the culture and not knowing any better - the same as the royal enfield crew.

People like me who have styled and built their own DEUS-style bike, with the assistance of DEUS' mechanics, get grouped in the same boat even though we did the hard yards and had some originality to our bikes.

DEUS do great work, but its undermined by the 9 out of 10 people who cant afford their product, instead calling it 'overpriced shit' or pose arguments with the reasoning of 'i can get a CBR1000RR that has 4 times the power output for the same money'. Typical Australian mentality with their 'tall poppy' syndrome and the general idea that more horsepower = more motorcycling enjoyment.

In my opinion, they couldn't be more wrong.

Going fast and having fun can be done on 90% of the bikes on the market, depends on how much you want to break the law i guess? If youre only going to ride on the street, why buy a bike that you can only use 40% of?

LOL for sure man, they are great bikes and I'd love to ride one, but for the money you'd want to be damn good a rider. Otherwise you'd be that guy rolling into bed with Megan Fox with a 1-inch pecker right?

How many of these bikes have you ridden that you can't use ???

GSX-R750, YZF-R1, CBR1000RR, What's your point? How many 'poser' bikes have you ridden?

I'll happily admit I'm far from being able to master these monsters, as are the large majority of people who ride them.

I'm simply stating my opinion that you can have just as much fun on the street on a bike with less power. The motorcycle world is large and diverse, with sooo much to offer. Why confine yourself to Supersports bikes based on the belief that they're the only bikes that aren't 'fashion accessories' and the only ones that are fun 'go fast'.

I find it quite amusing that a large selection of the guys I grew up with that have ridden all-kinds for years, find themselves having more fun thrashing their DRZ400/SM510R/etc Motards than on the big 1L's they also have in the garage.

If you're talking about racing, then that's another whole different story. Don't get me wrong, id love a 09 R1 just as much as the next guy, but why kid myself? I can't use the thing how it's supposed to and probably will never be skilled enough to warrant paying $20,000 when I'm only going to use $8000 of it's potential.

So for now, I ride what gives me pleasure and excitement. The TW has been a great bike for my L's but now i've got 7,000 k's under my belt, it's on to bigger and better things. Why that makes me a a motorcyclist of 'lesser worth' riding a 'fashion statement', I'll never understand.

I have no problems with people riding what they want, I think it's great that's the best thing about motorcycling... you can have fun or enjoy most bikes, but when someone who rides a douche expensive machina type bike has a go at sports bikes at any given chance as if I'm gunna take it ?

Given the chance I'd have many bikes as I've always said no bike is perfect. I'd keep my bike for the twistys, have a dirt bike for obvious reasons (which is my next purchase), A tourer for long trips, a big motard for hooning.... all would have their purpose.

FWIW, I've ridden many many bike's, I've been lucky enough to have plenty of mates that ride all types of bikes and are willing to let me go for a burn from time to time which is refreshing.

Ah ben, you misunderstand. I dont have any issues with sportsbikes, just the very narrowminded view of a lot of the people who ride them.

Each to their own I guess. I like my 'Douch Expensive Machina' bike even if its a 'fashion accessory' for a 'poser' like me.

So did you trade the GSXR in, or is this in addition to? Why the sudden swap? Feels like you didn't buy the GSXR that long ago. Either way, that's awesome and I'm jealous. I would love to hear a ride report and some kinda comparison in the way it does things compared to the GSXR.

I'll write something up today during work Tommo

Yeah traded the GSXR in. Ended up getting $2000 more for it than they first offered, but it took me all day to get this (had to go to other dealers and get valuations done to compare etc etc).

I had the GSXR for 8 months. It's an awesome bike, however after i did the track day on it i realised how far from it's potential it was while i was riding on the road.

After buying the new car, i basically hadn't ridden the GSXR at all. I forced myself to ride it last weekend out to the national park, and i didn't really enjoy it that much! I went along with a friend on an RS125 and we swapped bikes when we got there, and i absolutely loved riding it because i had to wring its neck/work the gears to get anywhere. After that i realised i wanted a bike that was better to ride on the street than the 600. I'd probably be able to lap EC quicker on the street triple anyway to be honest

The street triple is awesome, i feel like a massive hoon when i'm riding it around.

Yeah I know what you're saying - I've got the same views on the R1, it's pretty pointless having it for going out on a cruise on Sydney streets. Good fun and stupidly fast (first vehicle I've owned where I haven't gotten sick of the performance, I wish I had more places to get into it!!).

However, if I hit up the putty road, it's worth it... I love it. So much fun. I'd like (prefer?) the Speed Triple for general riding, but I think I'd miss it come weekends, I just love the rush I get from the top end on the R1.

Update on how it's performing? Have you realised you should have bought a Speed Triple.

Hahah Tommo you bastard

Haven't thought that once yet, although i guess it's only been a week.

I prefer riding it around on the street compared to the GSXR, that's for sure. Great for pillioning the GF around on as well, although you'd want to hope it's better at doing these types of street duties than the GSXR, as it is named a Street Triple after all.

It lifts the front wheel in first if i pin the throttle, which the GSXR didn't ever do.

A big difference is at speeds over say 160km/h. The GSXR felt extremely stable here (as im sure your R1 does Tommo) and begs you to keep pushing. The striple on the other hand starts getting a bit hairy . That's mainly only going to be an issue on the track, but yeah that's been once in the last 9 months for me so high-speed stability is pretty low on my list of priorities to be honest.

Engine sounds awesome as well.

Haven't taken it on a ride through the natio or old pac etc yet, haven't had the time unfortunately.

Yeah that's exactly what I want for a street bike, just not sure if I'm prepared to make the change esp as I definitely do hit over 240km/hr a few times most weekends... thanks for the mini review, I'm assuming you did some corners today.. review!!

Ran up to singleton on Putty Rd last weekend Tommo, and the bike was amazing.

Rode almost 500km straight and the only issue was that my hands were tingling, probably because the street triple doesn't really have any bar-end weights to help counter the vibrations from the engine.

The bike's still a blast to ride to and from uni/work on as well, i love it. Still no regrets on the swap yet!

Guy at work brought in the a Hypermotard S the other day. Sounded pretty nice haha.
Not really motards are they those bikes though, more like fighters really.

yeah, they represent the kind of hybrid city bike that i really want. 800cc, lightweight, good handling, good road clearance and great brakes (for the inner city fuckhead cage drivers)

Rode one of these the other night - in an apartment complex parking lot at 12am, I popped monos and got the back out sideways!!!! It has half convinced me to buy one - the only drawbacks are the size of the tank (even with the upgrade its still piss tiny) and the service intervals/maintenance.....but my god it's so much fun...

I'd like VFR but have you seen the silly prices they go for? Bugger that.
Aprilia motard would be great for for the 15 minutes it lasts before it's first engine failure :P.

VFR400's are cheap cause they aren't LAMS, RVF400 are expensive, but they are the best learner 'sports' bike, i'd buy one for 3 years, not for 1 year P's though

benxxx

yeah easily confused and it doesn't help that people advertise them as 'lams' and people take their word for it, but end up getting caught out by the po po
