Hey guys,

I have a new car, I'll keep it short cause it's nothing to be proud of. It's pretty much dead standard at the moment, just a head unit. It's in fantastic condition, the paint is impeciable and everything on it works. super clean! I don't have massive plans for it but they are as follows:

- Decent set of Gunmetal 15-16" rims. Either watanabe or similar
- Very dark Tint
- Decent Stereo
- Lowering
- Exhaust
- Front Lip

I'd love to do something with the interior, but not sure what's avaliable. I'd love to do a Type R leather like feel but never heard of anything like that done.

Hey Shiri, in the HID kit on your ae86, did it have relay's? If not, did you have any problems with it?

Hey guys sorry about the late reply.

Well despite the body of the car being absoutly like new, something was bound to go wrong on it. Just had this feeling since I drove it. CLUTCH!

Two springs were completly missing!!!! No wonder she wouldn't go into gear at all haha...
So I scored a HD exedy clutch at trade price which is always good! Connections with AE86's help you in the long run guys ;). MUCH BETTER!!!! Spirited driving is heaps of fun.

Also got the speakers up the front done and picking up some springs soon.

There is also now an option for the interior... Let me show you what I am going to copy

I might tone the red down a bit though. HOW HOT IS THAT?

Monkeymajik: I didn't run any relays when I ran the HID kit on the 86. Never caused any problems, always turned on and off between safety and night modes. I just couldn't run my fogs without the headlights on is all.

Garth: Didn't get to go but spent some time in Sydney instead. I should of looked you up man sorry! Stayed in Surrey Hills

As the one year anniversry of the beginning of our relationship comes ever closer I thought it'd be a good time to revisit this thread and relive just how things went in the first year. It's been a sort of love hate relationship with him (that's right, me and the civic turned homosexual haha, calling him a female never seemed right, plus it is a Honda) ever since I picked him up. The day the clutch went was one of the worst moments I've felt since I was reliving everything I went through with the AE86 all over again. Since then... he has been one of the toughest cars to upset though. Despite the fact the fan-belts squeeling has been going on since I bought he still never over heats nor puts up a fuss (I will get around to fixing that soon). The brakes are beginning to squeek yet still stop on a dime. I treated him very poorly for a few months when I lost my job at the beginning of this year, never washing him nor cleaning him in the entire time. Dirt turned him into a greyer looking body than a black one.

His simplistic and understated styling still appeals to me today despite his stock looks but with our one year together approaches I decided that a new wardrobe was in order. After one year, I have bought him a new pair of kicks... being the sneaker freaker I am, it was always going to be the first major modification to her.

Since day one the only mods I've done where the clutch which blew, and the amber indicators, jdm rice yes.

So at 1.30am two nights ago I picked up a set of 4 of these in a suburban street in East Melbourne.

Their wrapped in some fairly nice Yokohama tyres with plenty of meat left on them. It's exciting tomorrow as that's when I'll chuck them on. Yes... I will have pics... It'll be interesting to see the exact difference one mod will make to her looks.

There is some serious shaking going on when the car gets above 50km/h... I had a look and one of the hubs fitted to the wheel (It came with these spacer things for the inside rim of the rim) and there was a fair gap between it. I took the wheel off, tightened the wheel. Went for another drive and it seemed to solve it... but above 60km/h I can still feel it shake very violently...

Solutions? Take the wheels off and fit them again?

Shiri

try that, also get a full alignment and balance. i think that would cure alot

but please shiri, lower it!!

Shiri
20-08-07, 10:52 AM
Thanks gimic... next on the menu is probably springs but I'm after something cheap as my budget has been blown with these wheels =(

I had a look this morning at the right side wheel and there is obviously something wrong there. The wheel came with little hub spacer things that fit in a little slot on the rear side of the rim... owners of P1's should be familar with it. When I fit this to the wheel there is a gap between it and the rim. This is obviously causing the violent shaking that occurs. I have taken the fronts off and am running black hubs for the time being and I will try agaain tonight by some how sticking the spacer/hub to the rim and fitting it that way...

I will probably just end up taking it for an allignment and getting them to fix it.

Shiri

The shaking could either be what you describe or wheel balance, a bad wheel alignment won't cause shaking. Do the wheels have weights on the inside?

20-08-07, 05:00 PM
Might be a good idea to get a proper fitting set of hub-centric spacers first to make sure the wheels are centred perfectly. They shouldn't cost too much from a wheel and tyre place.

Shiri
20-08-07, 06:25 PM
Hey rodent... those spacers that I have been talking about are hub centric rings that fit on the rim. That is where it is causing the gap on the passanger side wheel... the rest of them fit fine, it's just that side seems to leave a little gap between the ring in the rim.

Any ideas?

Yeah sorry I should have been more clear. See if replacing the ill-fitting ones (or swapping them around as tez suggested) helps at all :)

Jesus, I totally forgot I had a build thread that I made when I bought this car. Haha none of the pictures work anymore! lol.

Anyway I think this thread might be a bit more regular seeing as though I decided to keep the civic and I have a list an arm long of parts coming in.

Decided to test something that I did with the AE86 and that was replace all globes with LEDS, mainly because some of the lights on the EG's rear blew! And I've NEVER replaced them, how slack is that. I remember on the AE86 it looked fucking brilliant, so I decided to do it again! Anyway, it's been so long that I bought the wrong LED's... the wedge's were singular concentrated beams rather than 6LED ones that dispearesed the lights better... and the Globes were actually 24LED RED! Rather than White... shattering.

Anyway... here's the results!

Both of these shots are under NO light... and have not been doctored, both shot with same settings.

After

Yes yes, it's rice I know... Anyway it's quite interesting difference hey? Least I can't be pulled over now for it.

I'll be doing the dash in a little bit... most of the globes in that are shot too... so should be a good change.

lol @ female... 8 years in the modified scene and it still makes me laugh.

Steelies are ditched... drift spec is fail in a FWD for some reason.

I have lowered springs sitting in the garage which still aren't fitted... still establishing the bump steer issues. getting it inspected this week so that should fix it!

As for selling... YES... it is for sale for the right offer. I have taken it off CarSales though. I'm fully aware that it is a buyers market at the moment but still waiting for the right offer as I know the car is a nice car and I WILL NOT BE SELLING IT FOR $4000 like some offers I got... then telling me off when I say no... get a life! I said no so leave me alone. Still... I'm not in a hurry as well because there are no Suzuki Cappuccino's on the market... and the longer I save, the more leniancy i can have in selling the civic :)

Kaotic
24-11-08, 08:47 PM
How much do you really think your 15+ year old civic is worth?

any thoughts of keeping it and doing an engine swap?

Shiri
24-11-08, 09:49 PM
15 years or not... I know that it's worth more than $4000... that offer is offensive when GL's are on carsales for $5000-$5500. I don't know who they are trying to convince, themselves or me what the car is worth. I know what it's worth so I won't be selling for anyless than $6000.

I have thought of keeping it and converting it... I've done it before so the knowledge is there, but the end of the day is I want to treat myself to something nice as my next car. The Civic does it's job for me, but that's all... it doesn't suprise me or challange me. I think if I don't feel attached to whatever traits it has by now, then I never will be... and pouring money into it is a worthless exercise cause I'm always going to want something more from it. I know the complete car is a fruitless search, but all these factors combined give me enough reason to want something new.

Elwood
24-11-08, 10:13 PM
No offense Shiri, but 6K is alot for a car with 200+km's..

Noone knows how well you treat it except you.. Thats the biggest problem with selling a car.

Those rims definitely do it justice though :)

Kaotic
24-11-08, 10:28 PM
Ek civics sell for +6k

Ek4's sell for around 10k

Egs with a B16/B18 sell for around 7-9 or more less depending on mods

its only worth as much as someone is willing to pay...just a thought shiri not having a go at ya:D

Shiri
25-11-08, 01:10 AM
I'd like to find a decent running B16 EG for 7k... point me in the right direction PLEASE because no matter where I look on CarSales Victorian GL's are at 4-6k, VTI and Si's are 5-7, EK's are 8-10 and B16 EG's are 12-16.

So take that as you will... I re-iterate that I'm not prepared, or desperate enough to accept offers at $4,000 so that's all I was saying... I know that if I were buying a car right now I'd probably offer chips too.
