Hey guys (and gals),
I don't know if a post has been made about this before so forgive my ignorance if it has ( I must not have looked hard enough).
I'm pretty newb when it comes to servicing my car etc, and nothing's been done to my 180sx yet (in terms of mods) but I was just hoping to get some recommendations by you guys for some place that does oil & filter changes and what not - you know, the usual 5,000/10,000km interval services.
I went to this feral place my dad recommended (assuming that sr20det's are not alien cars that unheard of) and the stupid idiot put >4.5L engine oil.... I've been told my car takes about 3.3L. I drove back and made them drain a bit, but yeh I was pretty upset.
I'm inclined to do it all myself (which I'm assuming most of you do), but I'm pressed for time and resources so I'd rather drive it somewhere, pay someone a reasonable price and get it done in a day (where possible, I'll wait).
The other thing I was concerned about is shit oil and filters some mechhies use at their workshops - argh the dilemma.
I don't need no flash garage who does this n that, I just need clean, simple, modest and knows WTF they're doing to my car. Hopefully that's not too much for a girl to ask :!:
Any ideas?

Where abouts are you?
If you're in the inner West (i.e. near Ryde) Joshua at Pro Concept (http://forum.jdmstyletuning.com/forumdisplay.php?f=25) knows Silvias better than I know how to abuse people on the Internet. And he's more anal about how he and his workshop staff go about their business than I am about spelling and grammar.
In other words, go there if you're anywhere near there.
You can be pretty much assured that it'll get sorted and if there's any issues he'll tell you about them honestly rather than hide them or try to fleece you.

IS motor racing use good oils... and know their shizzle. They are also not a bad price.
Bel garage is offering basic servicing to Circuit club 'members' - $95 for oil filter/oil/labour... which is great.
But yeahh it's normally $120 depends on what grade fluids you want to use. All performance garages ie: IS motor racing, BEL Garage, Pro concept... ladi da will know how to service a car. Just you have to choose one. I find IS motor racing to be awsome...
Anyways... that's my 2 cents... hope that helped. BTW I assumed you were in Sydney.

I've had all my cars serviced by Indy at IS Motor Racing.

Couldnt have said it better !!!
I have been going to him for the last 4 years and I wont let anyone else touch the car.
He really knows his silvias as scathing has said and you will be in good hands, I can almost guarantee that it will be one of the CLEANEST workshops you will ever visit.
if you are concerned what filters and oil they use then ask them.
if they are a good workshop they will happily tell you.
if they get anal when you ask about what you get for your money then i must say find another workshop.
oil and filter takes you like 30min.
warm up car
drain the sump plug.
remove filter.
let it drain
put new filter and refit sump plug.
refill oil.
spend the money you saved to go out or do something else with it :)

pick someone on your 1st service and pick someone else on the 2nd and 3rd etc: but at the end of the day we can all say who is good and who is not,it comes down to who you like and who you trust, the only way you are going to find this out is by word of mouth and going there to see who they are and have a chat to them,by doing that you should know what kind of person they are///
but I/S motor racing has my vote ;) hope i helped

Thanks to all for posting - but I was gonna try FAT-GTR's call. Everyone thinks their mechanic is the best, so I'll just have to try a few and find out for myself.
I wouldnt go much further than West ryde though, coz I kind of live down south way...
I'll see how I go when it comes time to do my 80,000k's servicing...

Well said brother :D
Also remember to take whatever you read on forums with a grain of salt.....there's always two sides to a story, so do what Dave above has said, go check them out for yourself and make up your mind from there :)

MSJ:44Y go with fat-gtr's advice, it makes common sense.
i've been a customer of both.. and you would be happy with either Proconcept or ISMR. they both cater specific to jdm cars, and nissan in particular.
Hebe: DC2R>DC5R :)
LOL I had a DC2R so I don't want another one :)

Where should I get my Mazda MX5 (NA8) serviced and how much do you think I should be looking at as a ballpark figure (it is approaching 125000km)?
Done the timing belt change at 90,000km and major services at 100,000km and 120,000km
I look after my baby pretty well but the likes of MX5Mania are too far away from my home in East Hills

IS motor racing is in the east (rockdale)... assumming that is around about where EAST hills is. They are awsome... and minor service will be around 120 I think.
I goto www.powertune.com.au.
They're in Fairfield.
Really honest and extra friendly crew there :)
I've been going there for the past 2 years.
It's around $120 for a minor service.
