If I'm not mistaken the commentator sounds like Charlie Cox who hosted Top Gear Australia.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlie_Cox_(racing) reads ...

"His second career began when he started commentating on BTCC in 1997 alongside Murray Walker"

They still race BTCC...Season just started again ;)

I download them all, but the torrent site is invite only now. I download so much that i have no invites to my name (you have to keep your ratio down but in Australia the upload speed sucks balls) so i can't hand them out to you.

I can put them on DVD though when i download them.

 I should put all the rounds of the various series' i watch (WTCC, BTCC, F1, ALMS, LMES, DTM...) onto DVD and sell them for $5 delivered to help pay my internet connection! :D

Back in about 1994 or so I was involved with a team that were looking at entering a car in the Aussie 2 litre Super Tourer series.

We went to a really interesting meeting with TOCA who are the organisers and administrators of the BTCC (British Touring Car Championship) and the supporting series of the BTCC - it was an info night for teams looking at entering the new Aussie Super Tourer series.

TOCA was owned and run by an Aussie named Alan Gow - he is based in the UK, was Partner/Managing Director/Team Principal of Peter Brock's team and is James Courtney's manager. He's a really interesting and hugely sucessful Australian businessman. You can read more about him here ...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_J._Gow

As it says on Wikipedia ...

"For 1993 the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport replaced Group A with a new formula for Australian Touring Car racing. This was initially open to five litre V8 powered cars and two litre cars (later to become known as V8 Supercars and Super Touring Cars respectively). "

Out of that split the Australian Supertourer Series for 2 litre cars was born ...

I have an awesome DVD that TOCA gave us to use in helping to find sponsors for the team - it was a short video of highlights from the BTCC series all edited together. I'll see if I can find it - I know I didn't throw it away.

It sure was a great series here. Instead of the bogan Commodore's and Falcon's in the carpark, you'd have BMW's, Merc's, Audi's, Porsche's. The pits were great, all of the bonnets were open for you to see. Quite small teams with transporters, marques and entertaining area's set-up. I used to love walking along, reading the specs boards infront of the cars. 310hp from a 2 litre Volvo sure was something! And the sounds...SO GOOD!

And the action on the track was always intense. Some of the best racing i ever watched out there. Political bullshit, as always, was it's downfall. It tried to take on what became V8 Supercars and lost. The country is worse for it. I went and watched the Super Tourers at Bathurst and they were great. A few seconds off the V8's, and in the wet, just as fast.

Disappointing. Now i turn to the series i listed above for my motorsport fix. I generally don't bother with the V8's here. ALMS, WTCC, BTCC, DTM and (as funny as this is to say) F1 are far more interesting to watch with more overtaking and on-track battles than our series could ever muster.

I just wish i had more time and more downloads each month to get more of the fine racing from all the great cateories being run all over the world!

Yep, my download limit is fried for about 3 more days (98% at the moment) but i'd say it's 2008? Last lap and around the final corner?

I watched the entire 12 hours of Sebring so yeah, i saw it :) Just as i watched last years entire 24 hours of Le Mans (yes, every hour...not the highlights reel!) and 2007's as well. 18GB of Sebring, and over 30GB for Le Mans each time

ALMS is now a 2.5 hour sprint race. Every category, especially GT2 (Porsche RSR's and Ferrari 430's essentially), is nose to tail the whole race, and i'm not just saying that to make it sound exciting. It seriously is a race run with the lead half dozen cars in the category running within a 10 second window. The top 2 or 3 are bumper to bumper for the full 2.5 hours and sometimes even in the pit lane!

If that video is of Jamie Melo against Bergmeister, then that's how the racing is non-stop :)

Shits all over everything we see in Australia!

I actually was lucky enough to have a play with an RS Spyder when it visited Sydney and i also attended a Porsche Cars Australia dinner at Cockle Bay that was held for Ryan Briscoe. He was driving the RS Spyder at the time. Really nice guy. Doing well now, earning 3 million USD a season...

We had the car to look after for about a week. Nobody else could fit in the car, but i jumped in. Beautifully made and so comfortable. Was the actual car they raced at the final round at Laguna Seca in 2006.
