View Full Version : Dirtbike day out

Well now i've gotten my dirtbike rebuilt and running properly (long story short I bought a 1997 KTM EXC 300 with a cracked bore for $500, rebuilt the motor in the shed, and then played with the jets and needle to get it running sweet and now i'm riding it :)) it was high time to take it for a ride too!

I'm new to bikes, this is actually only the 3rd time I've ridden this bike (did some playing around on it last weekend, but it wasn't running well, hence the playing with the carby during the week, put the needle down two steps and reset the float, all good now :)), but it is pretty easy to ride. It's quite punchy when you want it to be, it handles pretty well and it brakes well enough too (it's got brembos but only cheap pads in it now). Havn't come off it yet (suprisingly) but it's quite easy to catch when it gets loose, and it powerslides nicely on the dirt. Flies ok too, although i'm going pretty slow over most jumps.

Doesn't mind the odd (well lots haha) creek crossing or puddle dive either haha. Got to take the flywheel cover off and just spray some WD40 over the stator tonight just to keep it happy and check the air filter and she'll be sweet to go again next time.

Went out with my mate, he's got an XR250R that he's had for about 2 weeks longer than I've had my KTM :).

Yeah not bad ay :).
All up I think it owes me around $1700 on the road since I did have to pay for the parts to rebuild it then green slip and rego it etc.
I'm pretty pleased overall :).
