Hi Guys,

Just thought id share my build with you guys. im sure you'll appreciate it :)

The car was bought back in Canberra in May 2001, car had minimal mods and i had nothing but problems with it for 3 years, then the engine died. after on and off getting it on the road and it being off (more off than on, not uncommon with modified rides lol) i built the engine, stupidly some would say i kept with the CA18DET the car came with, i had this goal of making it the most powerful non stroked CA18 in oz. as id seen a few back then with 317kw (these were mostly 2ltr variations of the CA) so i thought why not pour all my money into it hahaha. so i did for the next 2 years (2006-2007)i spent a small fortune on buying parts from Tomei, Jun, etc. Car featured last year in Fast fours magazine along with my brother FC3S,

http://home.iprimus.com.au/xris5/primalgarage/calderdrift.jpg

Thats about most of the engine work, I made 282.3kw@rw on 16.9psi not too bad since its only done about 2000km but soon after i made that i took it to its first track day and the clutch fried. after coming home from that day at winton i was defected for being too low and having too wide a wheel (17x9 -10 work meister's all round) fried clutch and being done by the police, the car went off the road, id had enough of it giving me problems so i left it to sit and think about its actions, i let it sit for a year without really touching it (other than stealing parts of it for my new sil i bought, so i then decided id rebuild it, i started stockpiling new parts for it,

Powerbond Race Harmonic balancer
Wed Sports SA70 17x9 +10, 18x10 +18

I then began stripping the car down ready to paint (i wanted to get rid of all the other paint so i stripped it back to bare metal). The front end was alittle tired from a few years of drifting so i replaced the front end rail up. whilst doing this we stitch welded the engine bay and removed all unneeded holes

Heres a pic of the car as it was on saturday (i have since removed most of the interior and front window), we are in the process of modifying the rear guards to fit the 18x10 +18 Weds, im going to run as much grip in the rear as possible so not that much camber. with the adjustable control arms i can also adjust the wheels offset somewhat to match the guards :)

http://i328.photobucket.com/albums/l331/little-cherri/primal2.jpg

This weekend i should have the engine bay painted, and hopefully engine back in next week. I will also be dropping off roof lining, rear doors, door cards and glovebox to be recoated.

I'll update with more details as i progress.

cheers

neil

Well problem was i was alittle broke at the time, i just moved to melbourne for work so yeh was doing it hard. so the car sat there for 8 months (the first time) and i slowly built it.

but ive got an sr20 in our track car we've built. we've managed to kill 2 standard sr20 bottom ends in it already from 4 track days lol. building a forged engine for that atm. heres a few vids.

Welcome, mate. Looks like an epic rebuild is to come. I wish I had a workshop that big to setup in!

xris
18-08-09, 09:09 AM
Yeh having your own workshop and a dad who's a spray painter by trade helps alot. ive done nearly all the work myself up to know. Ive spent well over 48 hours sanding and paint stripping the body. So far ive used

- 8ltrs of paint stripper
- Box of 40 grit orbital sanding disks
- Box of 80 grit orbital sanding disks
- Half a box of 120 grit orbital disks

i think the list goes on from there lol. Im almost 100% back to bare metal a few bits here and there have leftover paint.

- as for boost the turbos just getting into its efficiency range so i should be making over 300kw once i up the boost (on the below graph i was having spark issues so i installed a HKS Twin Power unit. took it to the track put it on the high boost setting and the clutch slipped so i havent had a chance to really run high boost setting as of yet.

http://home.iprimus.com.au/xris5/dyno.jpg

Ive taken next week off work so i can get the engine and gearbox back in(after we paint the engine bay).

My S13 is being sold to a mate.

Hi Neil. Nice vehicle! ETA finish time? Bye!

xris
12-02-10, 09:18 AM
Guards were done using a mixture of hammer, dolly, hammer, and some more hammer. Alot of hours went into them to get them right 53mm wide uncut.

dont like to put ETA's on things i build as they usually blow out by a year or so. neadless to say its coming together nicely.(sort of have a deadline for the Silvia Nationals as i want to drive this to it (May 7-9th).

last night

- installed type x lights and garnish
- still need polish so im waiting for the weekend to polish the rest of the car

Biggie
12-02-10, 09:57 AM

Has still got my previous tune of 378hp@rw, but since then ive added the HKS Twin Power and rebuilt the car, changed alot in the engine bay(cooler setup, twin plate clutch, port matched the intake runners of the plenum (now running 4.636 ratio diff as well)) so at the moment it needs a tune (just waiting on my new Tomei Type L Fuel Reg to arrive and my clutch slave to be picked up. hopefully(touch wood) i can get the car tuned in the next couple of weeks.... we will see i guess(depending on the clutch really). Ex gate comes on nice and quickly :)

xris
13-09-10, 11:23 AM
Well the resleaved standard clutch slave worked a treat. clutch now disengages so no more wheels turning with the clutch depressed..draw back is the clutch is mega heavy. which equals either wheel spin or stalls lol. getting used to it now so its not stalling or spinning as much. will try out another push rod to see if i can get some more height on the clutch release point(longer push rod).

I ordered last week (should be here tomorrow/wednesday)

- Purple wheel nuts
- Tomei Type L Fuel Pressure regulator (was thinking the standard Tomei one wont be up for the high boost settings so i'll upgrade now before i run into problems down the track(hate to be in the middle of tuning and have issues)

So im going to get all these little bits sorted then organise for the tune.

Rego sticker is now on the window so its "road legal"

very nice build!

The CA is a little animal ... 373kw!? whaaaaaaat

xris
28-09-10, 05:05 PM
haha no HP@rw lol(282.6kw). tune should be over 400hp@rw this time. ideally i wouldnt mind around 500hp@rw so we will see how it goes and how much extra boost is needed to get there.

xris
05-05-11, 12:06 PM
Well things went alittle sour. Long story short. Crank was warped, caused a bearing to wear out and seize the engine on the dyno (my luck lol). anyways the car sat at the shop till the end of the year, ca had the bottom end redone with a new crank and bearings, and rebuilt. But by then i was over it. So i built an SR.... and here it is....oh and its on the road!!! just running it in before getting a final tune.

Thanks guys. its been a long time coming. Ive had the car for 10 years this month and its been through many changes (and many styles/colours.) Really time lines the trends of S13 styling in this country. Heres a quick run down.

2001 - Stock - Black, 17" Work Equips, Kakimoto cat back
2001 - Veilside Front bar, Custom Side skirts (my brother made for me), Resprayed in Orange with a Blue Pearl (mixed in the paint so looked a peachy colour).
2003 - Veilside Front bar "Modified", aero skirts - Resprayed in Orange with a blue pearl over the top (looked more orange) - T28, Full 3" exhaust, JIC Coilovers
2005 - Vertex Front and Rear, Aero Side Skirts, Top Stage Matt Black Vented bonnet - Forged bottom end - T28, Type X rear lights
2007 - Vertex Front and Rear, Aero Skirts, Resprayed in BMW Phoenix Gold - Work Meister 17x9 -10 all round, Type X wing, Bride Brix Seat, Kei Office Coilovers, Cusco Strut braces, Forged and built engine, TD06h-20g, 282kw@rw
2011 - Type X kit, Resprayed Black with Purple Pearl, Retrimed interior with Bride Euro II's, SR20DET with GT2871r, New Exhaust, New Suspension, All new arms, New wheels, pretty much everything you can do to the car to make it a street trimmed time attack car :)

Amazing love it!

With changing the guages in the dash did you just use the original wiring? Ie if you bought a new speedo and tach, and fuel guage, would it work of the sensors already in place? Would love to do it to my car

xris
11-05-11, 10:27 AM
well....Ive got the engine bay loom and fuse box all behind the dash as well ;). but i have no speedo. Tacho is wired up to the output on the microtech. Oil Temp, Oil Press, Water Temp, Boost all have their own sensors and wiring, indicators i just wired into the wiring loom, i have also hooked up a low Fuel light (yet to wire this to my fuel tank though) all standard wiring is still there also to plug in a stock dash..

So could i bring my car to your workshop and have you make me a dash like yours? just would want some sort of fuel gauge, and indicators and speedo.

Been awhile since i posted.

Updates..

Front Cover, Feature + Poster of Performance Imports Magazine Issue 139

http://shop.magstore.com.au/v/vspfiles/photos/pi139-2.jpg

Engine croaked it and was replaced with a JDM S14 SR20DET. in this i installed S13 Tomei Pon Cams 256x11.5mm In/Ex and Cam Gears. Redid cooler piping and had it tuned by MazTech of Melbourne

and had a wheel alignment

So the car is now back on the road again. 252kw is mental!

Congratulations on the HPI feature dude! I picked up a copy for myself, after noticing your 180SX on the cover. It's mostly GTR's and EVO's usually!

Sorry to hear about your motor going man. Do you know what the cause was?

252 kw atw would be pretty damn fun. :D Just to clarify, this figure was achieved with the 2871R and associated supporting mods from your previous SR20?

Cheers mate
Not sure what killed the engine, put it down to tuner after so many sr20's dying. So i decided enough was enough and took it to Maztech to be tuned (he told me the tune was way out and wasnt suprised the engine went....live and learn).

I sold the 850cc Siemens injectors and top feed fuel rail and bought some Power Enterprise 850cc side feeds
I bought a set of s13 254x11.5mm Tomei Pon Cams and removed the VCT cams (as im running a microtech there was no point in keeping the vct/cams)
Then chucked on the GT2871r and manifold from the other engine.

Other than that the S14 engine im using now is "unopened" (i removed the sump and checked everything replacing front and rear main seals) insides were looking brand new so was very happy with it.

Remade the cooler piping so it sat better and joined to the s14 tb (new silicon 45 degree reducer and cooler pipe reweld)

Modified the inlet plenum and removed everything that wasnt needed again. Removed the solenoid for the VCT and replaced with a bolt to block the hole.
Modified the top rad pipe to the engine so it bolted up easier + added a section for the water temp to be tapped in for a more correct reading. Added the baffled sump and Powerbond Harmonic balancer, and a new genuine water pump and also added a Nismo Thermostat.

Took it for a drive with the GF yesterday. Did a few skids

Wakefield Matsuri...Done and Dusted....

Things i learnt

- Dont take your local track days for granted. Vicdrift flow is awesome compared to raceline run events
- Front tyres were crap and need replacing
- Diffs gearing is possibly auto 3.9 ratio did 177km to 12ltrs of fuel WTF?????
- I need alot of practice to get back into sliding this car

Things to do now

- Swap diff for 4.3 ratio diff
- Buy new tyres Toyo R1R's look like a good choice after driving my brothers RX7
- Remove Bride EuroII and purchase Bride Gias/Zeta in red.
- Practice....

I drove up, drifted and drove home again. Ultra reliable! tune is awesome on fuel consumpution (especially with it being a microtech!).

what hapened to the 4.6 spastic diff?

xris
01-12-11, 09:25 AM
Was too short to drive daily with so i put it in the track car to compliment the CA. and thought the diff i pulled out of the track car(was told it was when we bought it) was supposed to be a 4.3 so thought that would be sweet. ended up being 3.9 ratio or something stupidly good for highway driving absolutely crap for track....

Quick question - how low do the Bride Euro's sit? Im thinking of egtting a set on special, just wanna make sure they are at least as low as stock - some aftermarket seats end up being higher on S13's!

xris
28-05-12, 10:31 AM
No they sit lower than stock (i am running a Super Low rail) They sit pretty much like GTR seats. nothing that special. Im ready to swap my drivers seat out for a bucket or Gias.

saad
28-05-12, 10:59 AM
Ok so they sit lower - do they hold you in well? Reason I'm looking at a pair is that I have full buckets, but really annoying an uncomfortable on a daily basis with no recliner. The Stradia or Gias is too narrow for me. So I'm looking at the Cuga or the Euros. On track, I use a harness so hoping they hold you in well.

Also did you have any heat soak/over heating issues with the intercooler setup?
