hi everyone i'd like to introduce my current ride,
im 22 years old and have been into cars from a very young age
its a very long story ill take you back about 5-6 years ago...
been a member for a while some people may remember i used to own a Toyota Levin coupe AE86 having gone through 3 adm's last was a jdm i was deeply in love with the car spending everything i had on it when i first started driving on my p's some 5-6 years ago, was going to be a very fast car with blacktop 20v, itb, motec and toda headers and exhaust,n2 9.5 inch watanabes list goes on... anyway my friend of mine who taught me how to drive a rwd properly owned an s13 and one night he took me for a spin and i loved the power it produced and decided to make the switch over for reliability and good power figures (Fact: how many ae86 owners spend their car kept in a garage then on the street hehe)
heres a pic of the old girl
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v358/poh_86/DSC00110.jpg

speeds up 2 years back time is now 2007
so i asked some friends of mine to look out for a 180sx/silvia shell which i was going to build as a side project i remember my older brother had a school mate who used to own a black 180sx which was the first turbo car i had a ride in at the age of 14 or so and last i have heard was that he blew the motor..perfect so i gave him a call to ask if he still had it and he was selling it but had since rebuilt the motor and had just run it in but doesnt drive it anymore.. so i decided to make the trip over and check it out and it really needed alot of work to get it back up to a certain standard again.

we came to agreement that we could swap cars providing i kept a few things like my ssr mesh wheels and my bride zeta 2 which i eventually sold later, anyway the day we went to pick it up my friends saw the 180sx and were really dissapointed to trade my decent working car for a car that was almost dead. i didnt care i had my mind set on it at the time.

and this is the day i got it exactly how it was to recreate lol
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v358/poh_86/180sx/DSC00930.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v358/poh_86/180sx/DSC00885.jpg
put most of the stuff back on
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v358/poh_86/180sx/DSC00881.jpg
so i prepped up the rear quarters since it had been in a tap

i painted it satin black on the quick job
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v358/poh_86/180sx/DSC01094.jpg
and put it back together and finally got it ready for rego after 3 months of sitting in my garage doing nothing

Front:
Caster +6.30'
camber -3.30

bit of an update.
took the car out drifting at oran park yest

the new steering rack, adjustable arms, whiteline rear swaybar made a such an amazing difference yesterday i was able to hold drifts and run pretty decent runs but no too consistant.

also there was a trophy contest for "MOST EPIC ENTRY" when it just started to rain so no practice and bald tyres made a very interesting drive spinning out and putting myself into the tyrewalls, made the crowd go yay! managed to walk away with a dent on the rear quarter few scratches on the door and a slightly bent up gaurd. lucky the car looks like poo and i didnt do it after i painted it =)
pics up later with video hopefully.

just an update
been busy getting the mrs s13 converted but thats another topic

since the broken box, decided to go down the z32 box route
ive got the custom 2 peice tailshaft to fit z32

and also bought this to stop my boost spikes
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v358/poh_86/photo1.jpg

been busy buying parts instead of fixing my weak ass box

coming in the mail i purchased a greddy oil cooler with relocator

and one more i got last week off an old car mate of mine
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v358/poh_86/photo2.jpg
yup a customised polished greddy intake manifold to suit a 85mm throttle body made for a torana on a custom made top feed fuel rail the work on this this is absolutely stunning
just need to figure out how im going to mount the throttle cable to it with a spring attachment to open/close butterfly and modify tb for tps

more to come for 2010
garrett 3076r turbo aka HKS 3037
6boost high mount manifold
tial external wastegate
hack up my front rad support
upside down intercooler with custom short run piping

ETA? not anytime soon..

d1ae862
20-01-10, 08:46 PM
Nice Poh the intake manifold looks sweet

poh_86
05-09-10, 11:36 PM
not too much to update builds been going really slow

few items ive bought so far
Blitz id3 boost controller
Greddy oil cooler with relocation kit
Defi gauges water temp oil temp oil press and boost with shift light (needs new sensors)
Nardi classic wheel 360mm in black
Quick release kit
BM50 brake master off a r32 gtr N1 to reduce brake pedal slop
and i need to change my kaaz 2way lsd to another housing with 4.3 ratio instead of 3.horriblefail
matching pair of bride brix 1.5's need passengers rail now.

new wheels
another set of advan oni's 17x9+15 all round 5x114.3
stitch gulf mesh 17x8+5 17x9+11
and a stack load of fresh 17' tyres ready to burn

now...time to get that z32 box. with an adapter kit also have in my possession a custom nigel z32 tailshaft. cant wait to fix this car and rip skids again...not long now

poh_86
05-09-10, 11:53 PM
oh and the plans for later this year after the box is in is another turbo upgrade.

some research and heres what ive budgeted
garret 3076r with a .73 rear housing in twin scroll
earls braided turbo lines
full race or powertune steam pipe manifold with dual external waste gates
tial 44mm v-band external wastegates with custom screamers.
remove the a/c and mount the intercooler under the rad support
custom piping
custom catch can
custom dump with flex pipe
greddy plenum
hypertune throttle body 75mm

lets hope all goes to plan... apparently full boost will come on by 3,700rpm instead of 4,500 there abouts if it were single scroll
280kw is coming.

best guy
05-09-10, 11:57 PM
nice car man i love the wheels, will you be selling the gtrs now you have the 3076?

wernz
05-09-10, 11:58 PM
Wow this car has come along way!
I wish i started drifting when Oran park was still around :(
Would you mind telling me what you think of the Project Mu D1 pads....?

poh_86
06-09-10, 12:09 AM
nice car man i love the wheels, will you be selling the gtrs now you have the 3076?
thanks the wheels in 4stud have been moved onto the girlfriends car but we'll be rocking as a matching pair at meets, and i might sell the gtrs..still almost virgin like too

Wow this car has come along way!
I wish i started drifting when Oran park was still around :(
Would you mind telling me what you think of the Project Mu D1 pads....?
thanks, still has a long way to go...yea i made sure i attended oran for that reason, still miss that track dearly
project mu d1 pads?? well for the price of 179.00 its a very good pad. i'll try describe it best i can but forgive me if i make no sense at all.

say if your driving at 60k straight, i can pull the handbrake without clutching in and it will pull a lock the rearlies almost tooo easy.. best pad for handbraking. doesnt chew the rotor however dusts a tad.

andrew hawkins recommended them to me when i was looking for a pair..
also the otomoto s13 with 1j as well, so they gotto be doing something right :D

wernz
06-09-10, 12:20 AM
Awesome!
I just bought a pair and havn't yet fitted them :)
I've seen that alot of the pros rock em' and i really wanted a pad that would almost garantee a definate lock up!
Yeah i realy hope somebody ends up building a track the same size as oran park north.. I'm comfortable with drifting on Eastern creek p-nut track, now the only step up is turns 4-12. and that is such a major jump up from p-nut, it's fast as!!

poh_86
06-09-10, 12:31 AM
haha yea if thats what you're after the rears will do nicely

turns 4-12 i was speaking with woods earlier, as ive been told its a 4th gear entry =| hold that rectum tight now..
but yea ill try pnut again try get the hang of 3rd gear again and jump onto big track once i think im feeling game....the water barriers are not one to mess with lol

wernz
06-09-10, 12:35 AM
Haha yeah, water barriers definately hurt panels :(
alot of entry i think on 4-12 is 4th but im pretty sure 3rd is the gear for carrying the slide through from what i hear, i'm only game for 2nd gear ATM out there...lol
Baby steps i guess ;)
Should come out to a p-nut twilight drift or day, always good to meet new people out there, and pick at brains for info haha :D

poh_86
06-09-10, 12:42 AM
haha same same at oran north i was going into turn 1 in 2nd gear, it was like clutching it at the last second... but then started clutching abit earlier and munji down finally tried 3rd gear at the end of the day...the rest is history lol

either that or copy someone elses lines
but yea for sure i'll be heading out twilight and any event really...ive been missing out on alot of seat time.

wernz
06-09-10, 12:49 AM
Time is the key i guess, gotta get out there more and keep practicing!
I'll stop spamming the crap out of your build thread.
If i see you out at the creek i'll come say gday ;)
Maybe some tandem.. haha!

poh_86
05-11-10, 02:44 PM
so another update on this project ive put off for nearly a year and winter has been too cold to work on a car so i went snowboarding every fortnight on my weekends.

so i managed to put down my deposit on a alpha omega z32 (300zx for those that dont know) gearbox conversion kit, i was tossing up between a few others however this was the best of the best... a full ring kit, machine bellhousing, no flywheel spacer and a new shifter linkage to shorten the length without any cutting into the chasis. should be ready this month and now i need to find a 2nd hand box to go with it. tailshaft is ready, im using a z32 front yoke with a modified sr20 rear end tailshaft.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v358/poh_86/180sx/IPHONE005.jpg
rubbed down the rear quarter from the damage stacking into tyre walls.

a skim of bog and primered her up get her semi decent
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v358/poh_86/180sx/IPHONE011.jpg

pulled off the front bar gave her a rub down since i didnt like the blue and black theme getting too piggy i spose
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v358/poh_86/180sx/IPHONE007.jpg

used this to support the aussie industry, but i used satin black instead
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v358/poh_86/180sx/IPHONE006.jpg

still got my rattle can skills
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v358/poh_86/180sx/IPHONE008.jpg
did the sideskirt while i was at it
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v358/poh_86/180sx/IPHONE010.jpg

replaced the old wheel for a nardi classic and a hub release

Bought a 5 stud kit off an s15 from another member on the forum, chucked in one side after the jdmst meetup with a few mates over my place... gotto finish it up ill get pics as i finish installing it, didnt end up using the s15 brakes and stuck with my original r32 gtr pair instead

They are the first three spoke rims that I like, good work with the setup, and I like how you've done alot of that work yourself.

Yeah poh i blew my gear box on friday night and am doing the Z32 convertion atm, i looked at the alpha omega kit but its expensive as so just went the local kit...

poh_86
09-11-10, 11:56 AM
yea there was a guy on ns.com selling them for about 700 or so.. they aint bad just wasnt game cutting into the shifter hole and messing around with the trim to get it right.

alpha had a special for pre-orders on their kit was abit cheaper than advertised at the time.

where did you source your box from? currently in the market for one.

should chuck up a price list of what the conversion is costing you, for all of us playing at home ;) my box gets a bit sticky sometimes.

Jays14
09-11-10, 04:43 PM
^I would just put a better oil in and see how it goes if it's just sticking..

Don't know about poh but mines costing about $1800 all up that's box, convertion kit, tail shaft and bell housing machining, all labour done by me. (sorry to hi jack your thread Poh)

Oh and Poh make sure you ask for the all the shifter parts and yoke if you get it from SSS as he included them in the price of the box...

Yeah I got brentons kit jack....

poh_86
09-11-10, 06:29 PM
sall good, all input is welcomed :)

breakdown cost so far for the kit
1,100 which includes machining the bellhousing back 12mm, new shifter bracket all screws and gb x member
nigel two peice tailshaft z32 yoke with sr20 end. $350 can be done cheaper.
nismo pivot ball 66 dorrah
gearbox i havent bought one yet, but i'd say between 400-750

so around 1900-2200 max all depends on the gearbox now.

and fancy extras like a braided clutch line and which gear oil you use

taz in regards to a sticky box, use soap man! helps the meat sweats out loll
theres a site in mel that do pretty cheap royal purps gear oil by the oz, jus becareful of redline alot of mixed feelings on them, personally i dont mind either.

contemplating on switching my coilovers out from my sil80(greddy type s) to the s13(buddy club racing spec), as they dont wind down low enough and provide a solid enough feel...

its been a while since my last update.

well the adapter kit came in but not in time for powercruise, all the brackets came back from the zinc coaters. apparently what took so long was waiting on genuine dowels from nissan....fml.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v358/poh_86/180sx/IMG_1341.jpg

started imidiately stripping back the box and removing the bellhousing to get it machined back 15mm for a proper fitment and engagement, took it to a place in ashfield called "unlimited headjobs" on parra road couldnt help but laugh when he answered the phone, great speedy service got it back the next day and well under the price of some other places. thanks jays14 for the headsup

everything put back together and all mounts, block plates back on. Im a novice builder and had no manual for which bolt goes where. got it eventually.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v358/poh_86/Project%20sil80/IMG_1408.jpg

hopefully will have it fitted up this weekend, more pics to come.

moving onto the car now, few mates been coming over and being bored started to muck around with the ornament sitting in my yard.

removing the a/c and condensor was the next plan to lose some weight and put less drag on the motor. Note when releasing gasses pull a hose off and RUN even when its outside. =)
before
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v358/poh_86/180sx/IMG_1428.jpg

after
condensor wasnt hard to remove if you cut the belt off.
if you look closer i also relocated the headlight relay box underneath the car
