When the opportunity arose to purchase a new car, I figured I'd had enough of the FWD brigade after 2 Corollas. Don't get me wrong, I loved them both to death, but I wanted more power and less understeer. And after looking at a few of these (and sizing up their potential), it was never going to be anything else....

1996 Toyota Chaser Tourer V (JZX100)
Greddy FMIC kit
Custom 3" zorst off the turbo
Lowering springs
18" rims

The previous owner went for a VIP look with the car, I reckon it's hot! Needs plates though.

Gorgeous, I freaking love it. So tempted to get one of these, but I have to confess I just don't like the interiors! The outside is gorgeous, flawless, but the inside of all the ones I've seen feels old and dowdy. Shame!

Thanks for the kind words guys :) It's a factory manual (R154)

Future plans are wild and varied.... first probably coilovers and JZA80 big brakes, then will probably be a turbo upgrade with Power FC and assorted other crap. Just trying to decide whether a bolt-on HKS 3037 will be worth the money over a GT30R and lots of custom fabricated bits. Trying to find an off-the-shelf manifold for the VVTi 1JZ is a pain!

Haven't taken it through the nasho yet, I'm getting sick of the suspension, it hates the old roads that the rolla loved. Bouncey and crashy and just horrible :( Beach pics were taken at Austinmer (northern suburbs of Wollongong)

TRD kit would be cool but way too exxy.... I've got too many plans for go-fast bits :D

Tats
16-03-07, 05:58 PM
Nah dude, cheapo JDM stuff that came on the stock rims when the car was brought over. They were virtually brand new so I figured I'll use them up before spending money on better stuff. Not sure if the time is being lost in the tyres or in my right foot :( Either way my 60'er sucks

Love it man~!!! I always fought that was a Honda Legend in your avatar for some reason.

Scotty - manual 100s are going for $20k-$25k lately, not many of them around though, keep your eyes peeled!

Sam - 9th May man! Check 4GColt's thread in events :) Would be good to meet you

As for the car - small changes over the last week - new plates and fresh paint on the rims

Daaaaaamn that looks so hot! Mate of mine has the same car in white (and auto ) but he prefers the stock sleeper look. You got a dyno figure for your car mate? Also, did you manage to get the TV/satnav system working?

jonno.

Tats
30-04-07, 08:57 PM
Made 191rwkw @ 14psi on the Mainline dyno at DRC. Everyone else who went on the dyno was bitching that it was reading about 10% lower than figures they had achieved elsewhere.... but I'm not here to start another dyno arguement. I was expecting it to make those numbers on stock boost (~10psi).

TV headunit got ditched by the previous owner, apparently it was broken. I couldn't find anyone that would make the satnav work here anyway. Unless your mate knows someone?

rodent
30-04-07, 09:18 PM
Not bad figures there mate. Friend's car makes similar sorta power with a whole stack of (pricey!) smallish mods and stock intercooler.

Re: the satnav there's a guy he knows that wants $3000 to "convert" the whole system to work here - not sure what exactly is involved but it includes modifying the TV scan frequencies to pick up Aussie analogue signals and probably replacing the entire GPS receiver with a similar unit from an Aus-spec Toyota.

For 3k I'd rather rip everything out and put in a mac-based carputer

Been a while since I spent money on go fast bits.... parts arrived from Japan today (thanks to Aaron - http://www.rampant.net.au/ ). D-Max adjustable rear camber arms, toe control arms and castor rods. When they go in I'll get them adjusted for maximum grip on hard drag launches, then it's back to WSID!

Manifold next?

Tats
07-10-10, 11:23 PM
Yeah it hauls now but it behaves itself. I thought it might switch on and turn tires but it's very linear, just winds up and keeps pulling.

Nah Benson, got a highflow coz I didn't want to go overboard. Manifold leads to bigger turbo again which would take me down a road ultimately leading to a car trailer and a tow car lol.

To be honest mate, the turbo was second (or third) hand and all i can confirm is that it was built by GCG with the core, comp wheel & comp housing from a Garrett GT30 series turbo. The rear housing is Toyota CT15b with an unknown exhaust wheel.

Pretty good in response, not much lost there but takes a bit more throttle to build boost. Really takes off about 3k rpm. Different to having your peak torque at 2400rpm haha.

Guessing GT3076R for comp section? So specs as follows?

http://img.skitch.com/20101011-qntw5j71ggtnwtkix2hkmkdrur.jpg

3k rpm! But it's fun having all the torque at 2400. :D

Enjoying it? Or think the original is better?

Tats
15-10-10, 10:36 PM
Original better? No freaking way :D The stock setup drove smoother but that's just me being a tightarse and running a piggy back for now. Getting a real ECU would make it a lot more managable around town.

From pure guesstimation I'd put the compressor as being from a 3071 or 3076. I think the 3082 is a bit bigger?
