i'll show ya wot a solid car feels like. one that isnt 10 years old and due to fall apart...
Boreing!
i want pics!!!!!!:D
Welcome to the Subaru family.
Best of the WRXs are without a doubt the 03 to 07 STi's, they have the best compromise between looks and mechanical specs. (although wish they kept the forgies in the 2.5's!!)
The peace of mind knowing that the gearbox can cop a beating is worth the extra money for an STi on it's own, unlike the fragile 5spds!! lol
What plans you got for it??
how long do you think it will be before your EPA'd in this car?
What makes you think that??
My car has drawn less cop attention than any of my previous cars.
Never randomly pulled over in almost two years of owning it, knock on wood, hope it stays that way. And it's had an exhaust and other minor mods the whole time.

yeah there is buttom end grunt, but nothing under 2000rpm,
boost kicks in at about 3,700rpm and pulls all the way to redline..
maybe it does die off on a dyno, but i dont feel it.
it only revs to 7000, which gives the turbo a narrow 4300rpm's powerband
if it reved to 8000 like the older sti's or evos do, then it might fade off up high.
s15 had god bottom end.. but then again SR20det's are known to have alright buttom end.. or maybe coz the car doesnt weigh much
oh ok...nah his one sort of died abit uptop...or maybe im just used to my POS's topend lol...very nice all round car..congrates
Yeah not enough Subies here.
Pig nose are nice but i prefer the peanut :)

hoping MRT will get my rear swaybar in time.
Eastern Creek on Friday!
picking up from them tomorrow;
22front sway
24Rear sway
Anti lift kit
rear swarbar HD Mounts
will be running 10w-40 oil after dumping this castrol after track
Wow that Castrol Edge has a varied viscosity rating. I wonder how stable it is a high running temps?
Peaking Duck
23-09-09, 07:29 PM
unfortunately i'll have no way of telling..
i have no gauges.
as a friend told me;
"u rather run abit sluggish on the track than spin ur bearings"
common subaru problem apparently

yeah ive heard all the nonesense regarding MRT..
but its the only place that has all the crap in stock
up til now, i still cant decide i want a 22mm or 24mm rear!
help help!
ended up getting Steering Mount bushes and Anti Lift kit..
just fitted them, and got a wheel alignment.
i havent driven much yet to tell the difference, but a difference is there.
-heavier steering wheel
-less slack
-more feed back
-sharper turn in
-less pitching between gears
and thats only backstreets and sticking to the speed limit

Were the old bushing crack? Or you just wanted to upgrade them?
As for swaybar, leave the front stock and get the 24mm rear upgrade.

actually at my mechanics right now waiting for my sways to be fitted.
ended up with the 22mm front and rear.
most nuetral as possible with standard shocks and springs.
the ALK i fitted earlier should aid in fixing the understeer when exiting corners.
pics up later
Dont wash the car Tien. Looks awesome like that, Rally spec FTW

The bigger rear swaybar will counter the understeer. Hence why i said stock front and 24mm rear.

crazy if u wanna run 24 rear + stock front + stock everything else
i just came back from EC today with the sways fitted + ALK
no understeer caused by chassis..
tyres gave out after 2 laps..
RE-001! always let me down..

nah theyre not cracked.
i just wanted abit more feel in my steering wheel..
the steering rack bushes are supposedly 45% stiffer than OEM Rubber ones.
that + ALK with stiffer bushing while adjusting my front caster and front roll center has made the feel abit more prominent, but not super different..
still has less feel than my s15..

Let us know how the new HU goes... kinda itnerested ina new sound system for my car.
my observations of this HU is now in the DIY/Review Section.
will keep adding to it as time goes on.
you did those adrenalines proud! Thats a beautiful car. how did the stocko brembo pads go at the track? also. do your brembos squeal when you are parking it. like very low speed then a bit of a howl..?
Peaking Duck
01-11-09, 07:04 PM
ehhe thanks Surok
the rear adrenalins dont look too bad. they wore evenly and cleanly.
pitty i dont have pics of these tyres imediately after the track day. looked alot worse.
i wouldnt say the front understeered more than the rear oversteered throughout different corners at EC, but the front tyres say otherwise.
im not sure wot pads are on the car.
assuming theyre stock (50,000km when i bought the car) i found my braking markers were about the same as with my s15. though that had rda slotted and bendix ultimates, and weighs about 300kg less.
i do hear the pads squeek rarely, very rarely.
copper grease will end or squeeks though, right?
so how did you find the car at EC?
faster than the s15?
ps i might be parting my car out soon ;)
Peaking Duck
12-11-09, 04:19 PM
the times at EC with my STi were the exact same as with my s15.. though my s15 was modded.
was getting my head around 4wd the whole day..
and battling overheating issues.
PM me when u have a list compiled!
My is still a blank canvas!
overheating issues?? uh oh spaghettios, whats wrong?
Peaking Duck
12-11-09, 04:40 PM
probably needs an collant flush.
55,000kms on the ODO..
always serviced by subaru, so probably hasnt been flushed yet. :)
will be flushing it soon. i got some waterWetter waiting to go in.
but right now, thinking of getting a 52mm Radiator.. hmm
Summers comming up! Next Ec Trackday 230th Nov
hmmm don't mean to alarm you but even if it's due for a flush it shouldn't be overheating as long as the coolant level is okay and the thermo fans are working.
how far up the temp gauge did it go, and hows the coolant level?
oh one bit of advise, don't go for a 52mm (70mm overall depth) radiator, the top hose comes dangerously close to the pulleys on one side and the thermo fan on the other side, you'll need to fabricate a bracket or even a metal top radiator pipe.
And the thermo fan frame down the bottom gets very close to the exhaust headers.
get a 42mm core (roughly 52mm overall depth)
All subi's are meant to have a coolant change every 50,000km, so should have been done if serviced correctly
Peaking Duck
12-11-09, 09:23 PM
thanks dooodes.
yeah level is good and fans are still working.
the temps crawled 3/4 way up on the dash before i back off.
STi46:
thanks for the heads up! Handy Info.
totti:
i cant confirm if its been done.. so best if i get it done myself.
its been log-booked service every time but who knows whats been done, or havent done..
with waterWetter promising lower temps, i reckon it should solve my problems with a stock radiator. but just to be safe, radiator will be chosen soon enough
stock 2.5L engines overheating is rare according to rexnet, but there has been reports of it.. hmm
hmmmm.. it doesnt sound abnormal. Maybe the root of the problem exists somewhere else?
From memory my cs9 was just over halfway, but that engine was still fairly fresh with 9xxx clicks, and the gc8 i had was pretty stable hovering about halfway.
As for awd, get to the apex and hammer it! just dont be too hamfisted otherwise it will go off into the grass :) I remember the phrase "unda, unda, unda, unda" muttered repeatedly in my head at my first trip to wakey.
scud I think you might mean yours was just above the 1/3 line? which is normal.
2/3 on the temp gauge means the actual temp is close to 120 degrees.
If it reaches halfway, then the temp has reached 100 degrees+.
basically the normal spot (just slightly above the 1/3 line) is between 88-96 degrees.
When I took mine to the track it reached 97 degrees for a split second then came back down.
Cooling system in the 2.0 vs 2.5 is identical as far as I know.
When you do change your coolant and/or radiator, wouldn't hurt to change your thermostat either, you could just have a sticky or partially blocked thermostat.
Anyways I'm sure you'll be fine. :)
fatboyz39
13-11-09, 01:46 AM
A standard cooling system shouldnt overheat. Unless your radiator is blocked, fans aint working or thermo aint opening fully.
Next time when your on the track try cranking the heater on full blast, should help cool it down.
Peaking Duck
13-11-09, 02:18 AM
Thanks Guys..
yeah, the fact that its stock and overheating didnt make sense.
-high Pressure Flush
-Distilled water + WaterWetter
-New Radiator (can never be a bad idea i think)
-Check ThermoStat
OoooO dunno if this is will shed some light;
what i did notice, when i did see the temps higher than normal, backing off for 3-4 corners made temps go back down to normal..
Normal being just a tick below middle. this is how it normally is around town
