----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've kept the pics to the bare minimum for the story but those on slower connections might want to go grab a cup of coffee.

Part 1

Finally arrived in Shinjuku at about 10pm and it was pouring rain. This was to be the theme of the Holiday really - I think I experienced all of Japan's December Rainfall during the days I visited.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/1/1.jpg

Was quite buggered so after checking in, went down to trusty McDonalds for an Ebi Burger (Prawn Burger). I figured if I was going to eat McDonalds in Japan I may as well get something that I can't get locally, and can I just say GREAT SUCCESS! Ebi Burger is awesome! I wish we had these in Aus.

Retired back to the Hotel to watch some TV. Super Beaver, WTF? I sat and watched this in amusement for quite some time. Emo kids and some whack puppet with a funny voice.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/1/P1000203.jpg

Woke up the next morning nice and early ready to go collect our first hire car. The weather was thankfully much clearer.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/1/P1000204.jpg

We found a 24hr Cafe near to the hotel that was pretty good for fast cheap food. I opted for a Chicken Katsu Curry for breakfast. It was REALLY tasty!
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/1/P1000229.jpg

Ventured on to pick up hire car #1, which was a Mazda Alexa (3) 4WD. Gutless and horrid but easy enough to drive around town. First stop, Chiba Super Autobacs
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/1/P1000271.jpg

The car park was full of some pretty cool rides. I'm not sure exactly what this thing is, but I know it's a Daihatsu.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/1/P1000275.jpg

I really liked this R32. It was absolutely immaculate inside out.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/1/P1000278.jpg

Inside Autobacs was like Autobarn on steroids, and maybe acid too. There was lots of crazy stuff to buy! Unfortunately I was very limited on storage space for goodies so couldn't go ballistic in the air fresheners section like I wanted. Grabbed a few though, a couple of Hello Kitty ones too.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/1/P1000285.jpg

They had heaps of bling accessories for your VIP car. Some were cool but most pretty gaudy.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/1/P1000288.jpg

Next we headed for Crystal, took the wrong driveway though but found this beast hiding
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/1/P1000301.jpg

Crystal, ZING! There was a tasty white JZX90 in the garage being worked on at the time.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/1/P1000305.jpg

I wasn't a fan of the new Work wheel design until I saw this stand. They look so hot in the satin black finish with the right size/offset to give dish and concave. Very similar to CE28N I think.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/1/P1000307.jpg

These ones really stole my heart though, lol.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/1/P1000309.jpg

This somehow found its way upstairs
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/1/P1000312.jpg

Yes please!
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/1/P1000313.jpg

Crystal had so many great things. Unfortunately a lot of what I wanted wasn't in stock so I came away with only a few parts.

Amongst all the crazy JDM vans you see the odd American one. This one had Watanabes I think - pimp
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/1/P1000320.jpg

I spotted this Crown (I think?) driving past. I'm probably alone on this one but I dig 2 tone.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/1/P1000323.jpg

Next stop for the day was Up Garage. These guys have so much in the way of second hand parts. A few bargains amongst the lot but not much to suit my car that I don't already have. Plenty of wheels (this was about 1/3 of their collection on display)
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/1/P1000326.jpg

Coil overs galore, cheap seats in the background
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/1/P1000329.jpg

Exhausts
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/1/P1000330.jpg

This turned up as we were leaving, lots of vans like this in Japan. I'm a fan.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/1/P1000335.jpg

Before I left, had to grab a drink for the road. Dr Pepper hell yes! The Up Garage vending machine plays music and makes broom broom noises, I like it.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/1/P1000336.jpg

Battled the traffic and headed back to park the car up at the hotel overnight. Went for a quiet beer near the hotel with my mate. So many great beers on tap in Japan! This HUB "english" pub had the soccer on so we dropped by. Weirdly they remove the head from the beer though. Gimme my foam back dammit!
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/1/P1000357.jpg

Next morning I headed out to Yashio Factory to grab my pink bits for the Silvia. The workshop was pretty dead that day, a young girl and dude sat in the tiny office and that was it. They spoke no English so I relied on the very few Japanese words I know to grab the couple of parts I wanted. They had a nice 180 in pieces in the garage.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/1/P1000362.jpg

Afterwards, I headed to Disney Land. Was kind of boring due to lack of awesome rides but there were a few cool ones. It rained half way through the day so everyone rushed for the shops. Couldn't buy much merchandise due to the human crush happening inside.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/1/P1000369.jpg

Pepper Lunch was conveniently located near my hotel. I love Pepper Lunch!

Coming up next, Nismo Festival 2009 @ Fuji Speedway..................

Part 2

Sunday, Nismo Festival Day. We headed out nice and early for Fuji Speedway.

Here are a few of my favourite pics, there are many more (especially of car park cars) I will post into their own gallery on my webspace later when I have more time.

Maybe if I press some buttons.......... hmm nope... JDM Nav FTL. Luckily we had our own Navman with us which saved our asses many a time
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/2/P1000408.jpg

This was a hint that we were heading in the right direction
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/2/P1000413.jpg

The amount of nice cars that came flying by was crazy. Even a white NSX-R! I think my friend managed to grab a few more pics - I was on the wrong side of the car and it was too cold to hang out the window.

Mt Fuji was a good indicator we were going the right way. This Lancia HF Integrale was awesome! A girl driving it too, and she wasn't shy about giving it stick. Very quick little car.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/2/P1000423.jpg

Ding ding ding! We have a winner
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/2/P1000441.jpg

Nice M35 Stagea
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/2/P1000445.jpg

There were many car parks and all full of gold. I took a few quick snaps on the way in of the cars near ours. These two GTRs were very tastefully done
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/2/P1000446.jpg

Old school love
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/2/P1000451.jpg
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/2/P1000456.jpg

A white Toyota Century. Only saw maybe 2 of these while in Japan, compared to hundreds of black ones.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/2/P1000461.jpg

This was probably my favourite 350Z of the day. Was truly beautiful in the flesh.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/2/P1000464.jpg

R31House had so many great examples on display - both on their stand and out the back in the parking lot behind. This wagon was tits - although it was hard to get a good pic of it.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/2/P1000482.jpg
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/2/P1000483.jpg

The sticker on the front guard says it all
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/2/P1000485.jpg

I spied another hot wagon behind the R31House stand.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/2/P1000559.jpg

This pipe near the rear wheel is interesting.......
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/2/P1000561.jpg

Bad ass transporter
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/2/P1000562.jpg

HKS had this beast on their stand. It was immaculate and had some really tasteful mods I could only dream of being able to afford.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/2/P1000491.jpg

Gran Turismo fans might recognize this DR30
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/2/P1000498.jpg

This thing was so loud when they started it up I thought I was going deaf.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/2/P1000640.jpg

The Godfather. Hako!
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/2/P1000643.jpg

One of my favourite touring cars of all time - the Calsonic R32
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/2/P1000501.jpg

JGTC cars make our V8 Supercars look like a joke. They are so awesome in every way. Seeing them out on track was a true delight.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/2/P1000507.jpg

I was too fat for many of these seats. True story.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/2/P1000509.jpg

Rays reppin fluro pink rims on their stand
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/2/P1000513.jpg

INGS 370Z was very tidy. Subtle appearance ftw
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/2/P1000518.jpg

This R33 had me salivating....
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/2/P1000523.jpg

...as did this R32
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/2/P1000532.jpg

March (Micra) cup cars look like fun.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/2/P1000541.jpg

For the Honda fans, a proper Civic Type R. Nice brakes.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/2/P1000564.jpg

There were a few Z Tune R34 GT-Rs on display as you'd expect - including this one, the original Nismo Omori Factory Z-Tune Concept car.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/2/P1000579.jpg

Hearing these four cars roaring around was great
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/2/P1000593.jpg

I think most of the 350Z S-Tune population came to visit
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/2/P1000606.jpg

There were quite a lot of 400Rs present, here's a couple
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/2/P1000618.jpg

Even Nismo 270R's made an appearance
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/2/P1000630.jpg

More carpark hotness...

http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/2/P1000673.jpg

Mad vans
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/2/P1000687.jpg

This is what's left of a 270R
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/2/P1000693.jpg

Saw a few Evo wagons. I like them, something different.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/2/P1000714.jpg

Queen St branching out to Japan?
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/2/P1000737.jpg

Even a Smart ForFour can't escape modification in Japan
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/2/P1000741.jpg

Hardtop ftw
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/2/P1000742.jpg

Didn't get to take pics in all the car parks, I left it a bit late and a lot of cars had left by the time I got there.

Heading home we cruised alongside a real tasty FC3S

Part 3

Ok so next day I dropped back that nugget Mazda Alexa and decided to keep it real with the trusty JR Yamanote line
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/3/P1000759.jpg

First hit up Shibuya then walked through to Harajuku
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/3/P1000763.jpg

Hit up Burberry Black
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/3/P1000770.jpg

And Burberry Blue
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/3/P1000771.jpg

http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/3/P1000777.jpg

Kiddy Land - Home of the Pedo Bear
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/3/P1000779.jpg

These things were leet, they link together to dance together. At about $25 each though, bit hefty
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/3/P1000781.jpg

LV had pretty lights... heaps of levels of stuff too
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/3/P1000788.jpg

Harajuku weirdos aren't there 24/7 unfortunately.. boo
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/3/P1000801.jpg

Anyways, next day I took a Taxi ride. This guy was a legend. I gave him the address in Japanese and I knew it was near by but it took him some time to find where it was (the Japanese street system is farked, most aren't named, it works off a grid system) Eventually he turned off the meter which had me worried but he ended up charging us only the basic fare!! Great guy!
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/3/P1000810.jpg

Arrived at destination..
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/3/P1000813.jpg

Well well well what do we have here
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/3/P1000816.jpg

While waiting for the keys I browsed the magazines in the waiting room, check this out
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/3/P1000818.jpg

Hit the road
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/3/P1000823.jpg

Need supplies... Apple Fanta is mad. Grape Fanta still rules though.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/3/P1000832.jpg

Pedo Bear's cousin got his face on a lollipop made of chocolate
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/3/P1000835.jpg

Jumped back in and set the GPS for Mt Fujis co-ordinates. Tunnels are cool..
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/3/P1000850.jpg

Roads getting a little more interesting
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/3/P1000857.jpg

Had a refresher stop then jumped back in...
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/3/P1000868.jpg
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/3/P1000865.jpg

In case you can't see the sat nav above here's a crop
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/3/P1000865_crop.jpg

Didn't take any pics for a while..........

........

Time for some KFC
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/3/P1000874.jpg

Rocked up to some random park
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/3/P1000897.jpg

Nice view
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/3/P1000909.jpg

Park was really nice and peaceful. Heaps of Koi in the water
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/3/P1000915.jpg

Sun setting.. time to hit the road again
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/3/P1000923.jpg

Smelled this place from a mile away, just had to stop
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/3/P1000946.jpg

Yah
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/3/P1000950.jpg

Lots of confusion later and it was on like donkey kong
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/3/P1000958.jpg

Fuelled up... hit the road again.. landed at Daikoku Futo
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/3/P1000990.jpg

Was a quiet night, not much there but lots of nice cars came and went that I didn't get pics of.

I heard this car coming long before I saw it... external gate roaring! It had a massive turbo. T88 I think.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/3/P1000998.jpg
(excuse the shit blurry pic)

Headed home and parked up for the night
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/3/P1010003.jpg

Few spots down there was another one
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/3/P1010008.jpg

Next day when I returned to Premium Rent they had this waiting.. bit out of my budget :P
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/3/P1010009.jpg

Ok I'm a bit short on time, so more pics and stuff coming another day.

Apparently the whole 'cosplayers on the bridge' thing at Harajuku died around 2006, which kind of sucks I guess, but it's understandable why they would have moved away.

As for the way the R35 drove, well.. to be honest I was kind of disappointed. From the many reviews on the net, in magazines, and on television shows I already had an idea of what to expect but I had hoped I would still be left thoroughly impressed - which I wasn't.

Happily though, I was impressed with some aspects of the car. In a straight line it's a lot of fun. On the Wangan it's a ballistic missile - not the fastest car I've driven but the power band on this thing is sensational it just pulls and pulls. As much as I hate "DSG" type gearboxes - this one was lightning quick with the shifts it makes it feel like an endless surge of power.

Interior comfort levels are pretty good although even in comfort mode the suspension is quite harsh around town - as you'd probably expect. It's bearable though and to be fair our car did have 70k kms on it. Fit and finish was decent however as much as Nissan want to claim they've got a proper Porsche competitor here it just isn't. It still feels like a Nissan inside out - and it had the dash trim rattles to prove it. To combat this, I turned up the music - the premium Bose sound system was pretty impressive for a factory system and the Music Box feature was great! The car came pre-loaded with so much good music loaded by other people that had hired the car.

Now to the part you've been wondering about - how does it corner? Well, this is the part that left me scratching my head. Firstly, the car is very heavy and you can feel it bigtime the second you hit the brakes. This is not much of an issue if you drive the car properly to suit but I felt it was very easy to make the car want to understeer if you even went near the brakes in the slightest at the wrong time. There's not much room for error in that department you've really got to be mindful of the weight. That's about the only time the car feels heavy though.

I felt the car lacks feedback. The steering works well but I felt disconnected from the car. This car corners well when driven right - the speeds I could hold through corners was mind bending. I didn't believe I was going that quickly until I glanced at the speedo and realised why my passengers were holding on for dear life. This could be a problem - even when you push hard you still don't get much feedback from the car so to me it lacked fun factor. It does things well, but it does it too quietly. It's like the computers are doing all the work for you.

Overall though it was a good 24hrs and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Apparently the whole 'cosplayers on the bridge' thing at Harajuku died around 2006, which kind of sucks I guess, but it's understandable why they would have moved away.

* Deposits?
* Parking, do you have to show proof that you'll have somewhere to park?

22-12-09, 09:42 AM
Tolls are extra that you pay with cash at a booth, and they're expensive. The pile of tolls we had from about 4 days of driving totalled near $300 AUD from memory. When you come to a Toll booth always go to the Green one that means it's attended so you can pay somebody in cash.

Can't remember what the excess was, we had other insurance so we didn't purchase their insurance. Was 2,000 or 3,000 extra for their insurance from memory but no idea on excess.

We didn't deposit any money to hold the car just simply reserved it via email then paid cash on arrival.

Parking - no you don't need proof. We just parked it at our Hotel's car park in Shinjuku which was 2,000 yen for 24hrs (but you needed to validate it at the hotel's front desk)

I'm pretty certain it's not the tallest structure anymore by a long shot. The Tokyo Metropolitan Towers owned by the government dwarf it (best still, you can go up to the top decks for free)

Sun City Tower is also quite high up; pretty sure it's taller than the Tokyo Tower.

Same in Osaka, at one stage - Tennoji Tower was the tallest point in that city. Not anymore.

Mang, I should start a Japan thread with all my photos from the past trips :P

We went out of the city mostly with the GT-R. I've got no idea where we were, we basically set sail for wherever and stumbled upon great places. I probably should have taken more pics of these suburbs but I was too busy driving.

I did visit the freeway place - Daikoku Futo. It was quiet as being a Tuesday night, the vans and shit only come out on Saturday and sometimes Wednesday I'm told. There were some real nice cars that came through to take pics though but I was lazy with the camera. Didn't want to look like a crazed tourist.

i wanna see pics of the parts you picked up too!

I didn't pick up much for the car just some rice from Yashio Factory and other misc bits. Will take pics of some parts when I fit them to the car.

I picked up these two gems as well... the detailing and quality is beautiful! Two of my favourite cars of all time. Calsonic R32 and HKS R32 :D

IMO, this is the BEST way to explore Japan. So many times I've just walked in a direction within each 'suburb' and stumbled across some real jems!

Didn't want to look like a crazed tourist.

I get this feeling more and more each time I'm there... also the growing thing in Japan where they don't take photography very well. My first couple of trips to Japan, you could snap anything - these days, it's best to ask first.

I once stumbled on a carpark in Osaka packed with exotics & VIPs... started to snap away, only to be met with a few guards who essentially told me to f*&k off. Good thing I did, some mafia-lookin' blokes were out front.

OK! Now that I'm up to date, I'll post pictures of my short break in Tokyo last week.

1. Caught the Airport Limousine Bus from Narita, I definitely prefer this to the Train.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/june2011/IMG_0263.jpg

2. OK WTF. Our hotel room this time has a Window between the Bedroom and Bathroom. Why on earth would you need this? I can only imagine it's some sort of Japanese Pervert design feature. Thankfully it also had a blind.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/june2011/IMG_0268.jpg

3. Went to a random Tempura Stick place in Shinjuku on the first night. It's called Dan-Dan-Ya I think. So awesome. Yebisu Beer on tap, we smashed it down like no tomorrow.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/june2011/IMG_0269.jpg

4. The Japanese guys next to us were awesome, they drank with us until the place closed. We won, by the way, because oldmate started falling asleep at the table. We went back to this place again on our last night there and the staff were so excited to see us! Stayed again until closing time.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/june2011/IMG_0270.jpg

5. Shitty weather for most of my time there. Rain just wouldn't go away. GG Wet season
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/june2011/IMG_0274.jpg

6. Sushi Train time
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/june2011/IMG_0285.jpg

9. Yakitori time!
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/june2011/IMG_0345.jpg

10. I think I've had enough random Chicken organs to last me a while.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/june2011/IMG_0351.jpg

11. Freshly made Chicken Karaage was SO good
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/june2011/IMG_0363.jpg

12. Hired a Cube and went on an adventure. Decided to head towards Mt Hakone despite the heavy rain.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/june2011/IMG_0371.jpg

13. Detoured into some back roads
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/june2011/IMG_0380.jpg
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/june2011/IMG_0405.jpg

14. Arrived at our destination, so foggy

15. There was supposed to be a nice view
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/june2011/IMG_0420.jpg

16. Streams of hot water
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/june2011/IMG_0422.jpg

17. Yep, the smell certainly was unpleasant.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/june2011/IMG_0429.jpg

18. We stopped at what I can only describe as JDM McDonalds. Place was packed with families, food was pretty average. Sushi Train was amazing though! You can order from the touch screen above, and your order will come out on a separate train type thing which is just below the screen. Below that is the normal Sushi Train.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/june2011/IMG_0431.jpg

19. You put your plates down the chute and it totals your bill. Hot tea from the tap at your convenience.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/june2011/IMG_0436.jpg

20. Random P.A. in the middle of the mountains

So so true. Even the public toilets are clean over there. Unlike here, absolute filth, I guess the japanese take pride in their things. Btw, Awesome thread. Definately makes me want to go back.

Well the Toyota with the crazy pipes and the mad dish & camber got a lot of attention from the Police on the night I was there. He was only parked, they didn't actually even see him drive the car. They were going over the car with a note pad and pointing at things with him for over half an hour. He ended up removing the crazy pipes on the spot (the extensions were screwed in to brackets) and not sure what else happened to him as I left before the cops even finished with him.

Any special requests for photos?

I think I'm going to do the Canon 50mm f/1.8 challenge this time, and it is indeed a challenge on a cropped sensor. In any case, Bokeh is winning :D

How long did you go for? Did you get any guides or can you speak Japanese?

There's 3 trips documented throughout this thread. The original posts on the first page of the thread are indeed from my first trip to Japan. I did a lot of planning beforehand, myself and my mates came prepared with a list of things to do.

Thankfully in this day and age we have the benefit of forums like this one which are a great help. There's quite a few threads on here about going to Japan, full of ideas and advice. I also used the Skylines Australia forum (Japan section) as there's quite a few good threads there, in fact one of their members helped me get my Nismo Festival tickets.

If you're flexible with your dates it's a good idea to look around the internet to find out what car events are on, for example Nismo Festival in December, or Tokyo Auto Salon in Janurary. There's countless other events (Drifting, Nostalgic car shows, VIP car shows, etc) around so you should be able to find something to suit your taste depending when you visit.

Japan is a big place and there's lots to see no matter which part of the country you visit. If it's your first time there it's a good idea to visit prepared with a list of things you want to see or do, otherwise you will probably spend a lot of time overwhelmed and unsure where to start.

Even after all my visits I've hardly seen anything. Every time I go back there's something new and exciting.

My first trip - 2 weeks, Second trip - 12 days, Third trip - 10 days, upcoming trip - 5 days.

If you don't get home sick I'd say 2-3 weeks is a good place to start, you can see a fair bit in this time.

I can't speak much Japanese but I did learn a little on my own. Pimsluers Japanese (audio book) is a great tool. Otherwise just take a copy of Lonely Planet's Japan guide with you, it's got a few phrases in there and the train map guide will keep you out of trouble in Tokyo and Osaka.

Have a search through the forum for the other Japan holiday threads on here (I think there's a few in Off Topic) and if you have any more questions feel free to ask.

I appreciate the in-depth response. As per your advice, I’ll be doing my research and planning my trip accordingly. I know there are some members on here and other forums, who reside in Japan, might be worth getting in touch with them and meeting up for a day or two, I guess it helps if a local with better knowledge can also show you around (something that you may not find from research but only from pure experience.) I might actually buy a Lonely Planet guide to Japan this week so I can get familiar with phrases and terms for the trip next year. By then I should be confident enough to attempt to have some basic conversations haha (HOPEFULLY).
Again thanks for your input and I will definitely be in touch if I need some guidance.

Cheers!

I once stumbled on a carpark in Osaka packed with exotics & VIPs... started to snap away, only to be met with a few guards who essentially told me to f*&k off. Good thing I did, some mafia-lookin' blokes were out front.

There are a few carparks in Osaka CBD like that, I used to work at one in highschool and yeah, no dice on the photos then either (7-10 years ago).

OK, I'm back - didn't take many photos this time around due to a few reasons, mainly because I did a lot of shopping which isn't interesting photo material and also because the weather was mostly crap. So I've edited the non-interesting ones for something different. Wish I could have taken more than 1 week off work.

Winter in Japan actually likes quite interesting - a mix of colours and greys. I'm always taken by the need for signage, lots of it and I often wonder what little snippets of information they offer (even like the food examples)!

Speaking of greys, I stopped for a moment to have a good look at the traffic in Shinjuku the other day -- just about every car that's not a Taxi or other commercial vehicle (ie: truck/van) is either silver, white or black in colour. Very rare to see a car that's not a shade of those three. So boring!

I'm still waiting for the pics of the white NSX-R :-P

The red one will keep my NSX cravings satisfied for a little while though :-)

Awesome trip, photos and write up :-D

Yep, Takoyaki from a place in Harajuku. This is food is best in Osaka, but there are a few places around Harajuku in Tokyo that are still good.

Thanks, I've been experimenting with a few more random shots in Lightroom, some came up ok, some not so much. I think next trip I'll go explore other places around the countryside. Need to do more night shots too, after all the neon lights are part of the aura about Tokyo.
