Anyone who knows Matt knows that he's been a long time Roadster fan. In 2008 he sold his IS200 for an NC MX5 and began his Roadster Life journey.
Matt's JDMST car diary is unique. We're talking culture, lifestyle, Jinba ittai, Road&ster (R.I.P.), Minkara, the journey is the destination. Going through his diary updates inspires one to forget about obsessing over modifications and perfect offset and instead to hit some b-roads, a skid pan or attend a track day. I.E.: 'just drive'.
I asked Matt to give me his thoughts on his JDMST Car Diary, this is what he had to say:
Matt:
Before I began my garage thread for my 2008 Mazda MX5 NC I thought long and hard about the what and why of it all.
Here I was parting with my Lexus IS200 - or, as we prefer, Toyota Altezza AS200. This was the car that had borne me through my first steps into JDM Style Tuning. The car that had introduced me to the circuit.
I had gone so far as to help create a club and a forum to support the IS/Altezza in Australia, however, through it all there were two main motivations:
- There was the driving
- There was the social aspect of meeting and sharing that driving with other enthusiasts
When I was finally handed the keys to my very own Roadster it was always going to be a trip. Sure, there would be some modifications, but these would be a way to inform the driving experience. Changes to the car would reflect the vehicle's strengths and what I wanted from the car.
Suspension and braking upgrades probably wouldn't make for a compelling thread. There are far more interesting builds out there worth reading about so I thought to myself why not talk more about the journey. What does the car actually mean for me? How does owning a Roadster steer my pastime? When the mods are done, what does one do with the car?
My thread then is about those parts between A & B. The winding roads, the interesting stopovers and the people I meet along the way.
