any recommendation on what brand to buy or material?

Or head down Church St Parramatta whilst you are there. Near the shopping centre is Bikebiz and Action, they will have gear and bikes to look at.

But you can't go past MCA for the range they have.

Buy whatever is in your budget. In saying that don't skimp out on the gear.

last thing I would do is ride without my gear on, especially during a hot day even though you are going to sweat like a pig lol

chindodood
25-05-10, 12:20 AM
any different between textile and leather jacket?

s_vtec
25-05-10, 12:24 AM
textile more comfortable, leather the chicks gets wet :)

for me its depending on the situation where I am going and weather, if its fairly hot I just wear textile otherwise most cases I wear leather because I feel safer

chindodood
25-05-10, 12:26 AM
hahaha then i gues i have to get leather jacket LOL!

yeah in my head i think leather wil save me abit more lol

Sounds about right.

Add another ~$200 for pants (draggin'/hornee jeans) and $2-400 for boots. It isn't cheap.:)

You got to remember its winter season now preety much.

It gets really fkn cold on some nights so a good non-vented leather jacket would suit the weather. Take this into account for gloves, you don't want 60dollar summer gloves or your fingers are gone.

Normal jeans can be alright or just be plain shit. I wore jeans with thin material when I had my first stack, my left knee didn't look very preety after the stack. 2nd stack I had some preety thick jeans on and I stacked it at 70km/hr... I only had a sore ass. So Hornee jeans or Dragin jeans will be a good investment. If looks and fitment concern you, they now make skinnier jeans "for the fashion concious".

I would recomend MCAS > Action > BIKEBIZ. You have a large range at mcas and you'll find action won't have a huge amount of choice which means finding the perfect size might be a tad hard... That's if your wanting to ride in and ride out with your new gear. That's said action stock some limited run jackets that aren't found anywhere else in NSW

Like every says, don't skimp out on gear. IMO the gear is more important than the bike

You can wear normal jeans and normal shoes but if you have an off, you may as well kiss them goodbye because when you fall off, its like attacking them with a belt sander and offer you next to no protection at all

Normal jeans and shoes will be a minute fraction better than wearing nothing at all. Useless. To anyone that thinks differently, Ive seen with my own eyes, jeans being disintegrated on a mid speed low slide and Draggins have saved my own knees from being shredded up.

That "funny material" on the inside is Kevlar.

As for where to buy, MCAS prices are a joke. For the price they sell one jacket Ive picked up top of the line A* jacket, track pants and boots.

Yeah, any Sydney major retailer like MCA's, Bikebiz etc* have inflated prices compared to alot of other places which you don't hear about often.

Online will ALWAYS be cheapest. If you have the time and patience, just go into MCA's, try their shit on, measure up, get your size, go home and shop online....you'll pay at least half price for everything.

Helmetwarehouse is ok, its cheaper than MCAs & bikebiz on identical stock.

The only bit of gear i bought from AU was my helmet because of the AS1698 sticker! Identical helmets overseas are much cheaper!

I find that bikebiz don't have enough range inside their clothing section... And half the things they do stock are all motorcross wear. Same with helmets.

But they are an awesome workshop.

lol

for me it was like

800 helmet
200 gloves
1100 jacket
600 boots
200 pants

yeh dont skimp out on gear. i love all my gear, especially my dianese jacket. love how you can remove the inner lining on hot days.

The pants i got these mad cargo pants looking alpine star they also have knee protection in them. i got them from ebay in america works out to be so much cheaper than in australia. having said that, be careful of fake gear.

(these are the pants) > http://www.newenough.com/browse/view_product_images/2931

Boots i got Alpine stars supertech R - i prefer this style because you put your foot into like an inner booty and then put the outer protective shoe on. The only problem i found is that the stupid shoes did not fit when i wore them on my cbr250rr and i had to get adjustable rearsets. it takes some time to get used to riding with boots too. (boots) > http://www.google.com.au/imgres?imgurl=http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/ProductImages/300/2008_Alpinestars_Supertech_R_Boots.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/1/1/36/12650/ITEM/Alpinestars-Supertech-R-Boots.aspx&h=300&w=300&sz=13&tbnid=OdIWEVjEUookjM:&tbnh=116&tbnw=116&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dsupertech%2BR&hl=en&usg=__HS5Wlt0ZsdsNTVb9aQ8HAkjbZcQ=&ei=JRUBTOiZKNegkQX-uLHvDQ&sa=X&oi=image_result&resnum=4&ct=image&ved=0CC4Q9QEwAw

oh also i got a shoei helmet. The biggest problem with the shoei helmet i find is that it fogs up too easily. But i found a simple solution. Go down to MCA and buy the little nose cover thing which shark helmets come with as standard. Its like $10 and fits on any helmet. Best $10 i spent saved me from buying a new helmet.

hope it helps rabbit, if u want a hand with anything let me know.

as long as you get your size the bottom wont be baggy, they are preety much a slim fit on me... and you can wear them wearever and not look like a tool unlike those blue and red camo jeans

nowhere near the baller gear some of the people here have

SamB87

I've got these.

Alpinestars SMK Leather Jacket
http://i840.photobucket.com/albums/zz321/Sbarrett20/DSC00440.jpg

Alpinestars A-10 Sports Pants
http://i840.photobucket.com/albums/zz321/Sbarrett20/DSC00442.jpg

Alpinestars SP-2 Gloves
http://i840.photobucket.com/albums/zz321/Sbarrett20/DSC00443.jpg

All of this was bought along with an Iridium silver visor for my AGV K3 helmet, as well as a set of Alpinestars SMX-2 boots for my uncle, plus shipping, all for around $1050 US. But the AUD was really good when I got all this (up around 0.93 USD) and I didn't pay duty or taxes when it came through customs either. Anyone who buys gear here is an idiot, I just went in to MCA Liverpool and tried everything on before hand. And I'll do the same when I want some boots. The bloke that served my uncle and myself even said with the prices we were getting online, even he said you'd be stupid to get them here. www.ridersdiscount.com is your friend. That's where I got everything, and no matter what size the order, it's always $25 shipping. Shit, even the jacket I got is on special now for something like $200, and I paid almost double that.

Oh, and everything we got online was double the price or more here. Fucking rort.

Good to hear the jacket dis it's job for you Will... Although hopefully you didn't have a big off.

With regard to the vented textile jackets.. Do you guys find that it really does
keep you cool on the hotter days? I find that mostof the time you feel really hot and start sweating is not when riding, but when stopped in traffic so I don't think it would help too much. I want to buy one, but not if it's not much better for keeping you cool than the leather jacket

jaayy
02-06-10, 05:29 PM
Yeh my ixon jacket keeps me cool. You have to take inner linings out though or else the waterproof lining keeps all the moisture in and just makes you sweat more.

If I don't take out the waterproof lining, no air gets to my forearms and they end up drenched in sweat. Its not preety nor a breath of fresh air

They are pretty tight and take a while to break in and loosen up. The tightest part is around the wrist area and you have to get your whole hand past it

Im going back overseas in a couple of months to do a coastal bike tour by myself, will be taking all my gear with me though

thats a good one mate, you go to Patong often?? I fkn love lawless Asia. My mate, his fiance and I were having drinks at their hotel when we ran out! So i offered to ride to the shop and get some more. But my mate wanted to come and we didnt want to leave his fiance behind... so we all piled onto a honda click and rode off to the shops got a bottle of vodka for 20$ AUD rode back and kept the party going :!: can't do that here!

The only leather i was wearing when i crashed was my shin pads strapped around my body hahah

also where you going? I'm looking for a 6-9month contract for some cash then i want to go back to Vietnam and do the saigon to hanoi trip on a bike!

Yeah man, I go quite often. The last ride I did was from Chiang Mai towards Mae Hong Son in Northern Thailand, via Pai. Was only a couple of days but I loved every minute of it.

Next one I'm doing is in October from Patong, headed north up the coast towards Ranong Province. Currently sorting out the bike arrangements to see what I can have ready for me so its all good to go when I get there.

Also, looking at doing a ride in Bhutan through the lower Himalayas in December with my dad and brother but that ones still in planning.

Vietnam would be a crazy place to ride, I didn't get a chance to, but did cover north to south by road and there was some pretty scenic stuff there for sure.

As for drunk riding...yeah...here I won't touch a drop, there I've ridden blind drunk on a super-sports. Alcohol gives such a confidence boost, lol.
