Hey,

Im just wondering if anyone has the size of a fwd 4age from pulley to end of gearbox, height of overall engine and gearbox and width not including manifolds?

Thankyou Blake

height 800mm
width 400mm
gearbox height with bellhousing 400mm
length front to gearbox is 1100mm

all measurements are aproximates but should give you something to work with

blake as i know this is going into your mini, go straight for the 20v. have you also thought about a G13B out of a swift GTi or 4efte from a startlet turbo? i know both fit and are very common conversions.
also have a look at the UK forums, as this is even more common over there than here...

xero - thanks for the reply. Is this for a fwd or a rwd 4age? I was told pulley to gearbox was around the 860 - 890mm but i have heard a few different dimensions thrown around.

I have thought about them but im wanting to go N/A so i thought something abit bigger that a 1.3ltr would be nice and i dont really want to go vtec.

Whats the difference between a 16v and the 20v besides the number of valves?

trism - Thanks. is the BT20v just the 20valve version?

This is the diagram i was sent by someone on one of the mini forums

those dimensions are pretty spot on.

also, from the end of the intake manifold, to the furthest point on teh exhaust manifold, its 490. thats on a 20v.

awesome thanks trism that gives me a good starting point then. Im making a nice cardboard engine now so that i can start to get an idea of size.

Also what is the best place to look for performance parts for the 4age?

Thanks Blake

Are you going to run 16 valve?
Most.stuff in the way of cam gears, cams, extractors etc can be had on eBay. Or keep your eyes on Toyota forums.

ive posted this many times blake, but any way what sort of stuff do you want for the 4age?

if you not going to build the motor just smallport 4age 16v with some 264 cams, off the shelf style headers, and cold air intake will be more than enough to propel your mini very very very quickly.
best part that all that will run on the stock ECU.

um not sure if im going to run the 16v or 20v depends what i can get my hands on.

Im going to want to buy everything i need to rebuild the whole motor and gearbox. But yeh i'll do a search and see what i can find i just thought id see if there was a 'best' place to go to find things.

Thanks Blake

well in all honesty unless the motor you buy is completely fucked you wont need to rebuild it.
most 20v's are in decent condition and could probably just use a new head gasket, replace other gaskets, a decent service, check timing etc and your fucking laughing.

the stock smallport and silvertop rods and crank will cope with any sort of NA power you want, maybe give the head a bit of tidy up if its off the block.

you really wont need to rebuild it unless your looking for big power and massive revs, and beleive me it wont be cheap to build a motor (says he who has done it twice now).

the best thing for you to do would be to source a blacktop 20v and gearbox from a reputable importer. if you can get the 6sp as well it will haul fucken arse.

remember you've only 600 odd kilos of car to lug around and the 20v's usually haul 1100kg cars around.

ok cool well i've budgeted to rebuild it so if it doesnt need it then ive got more money to spend on modifying.

yeh the only reason i was going to rebuild it was because it was already going to be on my garage floor and thought while its there give it a rebuild but if its in decent condition i may just clean and modify.

Yeh im in the process of trying to track one down.

Theres a guy here in canberra with a 4efte in his mini with 230ishhp at the wheels and its a SCARY car. so if i can get 150 id be happy and from what ive read its not to hard to get these engines to make that.

Thanks for the replys

to get the smallport 16v make 150hp at the motor will be a doddle as they make around 130-140hp factory.
the silvertop 20v is rated at 165hp and the black top is around the 175hp mark.

the only reason i keep suggesting the 20v's that as they are a newer motor, will provide the best bang for your buck and generally easier to find.
the smallport 16v's are getting harder to find and bit more expensive for a worn out motor which you would have to spend big $$$ to get running well again.

sounds like a cool project mate so keep us informed.

oh ok cool well i may have a look at the 20v then. What car do i find the silver and black tops in?

Will do! im in the process of doing all the research at the moment. Im thinking of doing a JDM inspired mini but we'll see how i go with it.

silvertop was very very late AE92, but all AE101 levin/truenos
blacktop was in all AE111 levin/truenos.
some AE111's also came with the awesome 6 speed gearbox. other wise the 5 speed with the silvertop and blacktop are decent enough.
