View Full Version : Daikoku Futo

Daikoku Futo is located south-west of the Tokyo Bay, on the Daikoku Pier, nearby the Yokohama Bay Bridge. It is among the best car meeting areas in Japan, alongside Shibaura and Tatsumi parking areas.

Numerous meetings happen every month. Numerous styles are represented.

Quite often it's a staging point for street racing, but it's also just a place for styles (and sometimes makes and models of cars) to meet and hang out.

Directions posted up by dopey:

"For those visiting Japan who want to go to Daikoku Futo, but do not have access to a ride or a car (or for that matter, for anyone who can't drive to Daikoku Futo for whatever reason), the following are instructions on how to get there by train/taxi:

From Tokyo/anywhere other than Yokohama - essentially you will want to first take a train to the nearest train station to Daikoku, from where you can then take a taxi (this is the most economical method). Alternatively, you could simply get to Yokohama station, a very large/major station, and take a cab from there, if you don't mind parting with a few more yen (maybe 3000 yen extra, not sure but at least??)

Or, if you happen to be in Yokohama already, and don't want to get on a train again (or especially, if you are at the tourist spots of Yokohama Chinatown or Yamashita Park - in which case it makes no sense to get on the train, you're already really close to Daikoku!), skip down to the Taxi section below:

Train:
Several train companies will take you to Yokohama station(横浜駅). JR East, Tokyu, Keihin Kyuko all go there. Note some train lines may be faster than others (ie JR Tokaido line.). At Yokohama station, transfer to the JR Keihin Tohoku line. From there, take this train and get off at the third stop after Yokohama station, Ishikawa-cho station (石川町駅). This might be the easiest route if you begin your journey on JR (as the transfer is easy, and you only pay for one ticket).

Alternatively, if you feel a bit more adventurous, you can transfer at Yokohama station to the Minato-Mirai line, run by another transit company (if you came on JR, exit the JR gates, then purchase another ticket at the Minato-Mirai line gates). Here, get on the Minato-Mirai train, and get off at the fifth and last stop, Motomachi\Chukagai station (元町・中華街駅).

Taxi:
As you exit either station, head towards the taxi stands (タクシー). Japanese taxis, you enter on the left side (watch the automatic door!).

Ask the taxi driver to take you to the
DAI KOKU FU TOH PEE AY. (P.A., or PARKING AREA).

Here's the characters - 大黒埠頭PA.

If you can print out this message - point to the following message:

大黒埠頭PAまでお願いします。毎晩走りやなどが集まる駐車場です。首都高速道路神奈川5号大 黒線及び湾岸 線が通過しており、大黒ジャンクションと大黒パーキングエリアがあります。そのパーキングエリ アまでお願い します。

If the first one doesn't understand, try the next cab.

To get BACK, it is highly advisable that you check and confirm with a local member on this board and arrange a ride back to the nearest station. The trains will generally stop running around 2330~2415 (the last runs of the night may not go all the way to Tokyo, btw), so plan accordingly (ie if you get on a train by 2300, you should be ok).

Who knows, if the locals are nice/in a good mood, they may even drive you back to Tokyo if they are headed that way!

Good luck!"

I wanted to go last trip, but you really need someone with a car to take you (which I did not have) as there is no train station close by...

Actually looking at google maps, maybe alight at Motomachi Chukagai then walk across the bridge?

I've been there! It was a real bitch to get to... if you miss the turn-off you've gotta circle around which takes a while. Eventually got there though - it was on a quiet night, but there were still a heap of amazing cars that turned up. Was a cool spot to just chill out for a while after hours of cruising the streets in the R35.

Daikoku Futo is a magical place.. i hired a Z34 and went there at 12 on a saturday night.. theres no place on earth more epic for JDM car people.

The epic thing is, there was a HUGE range of different styled cars there, from Bozo, "sex spec", VIP, sound system monsters and ofcourse high Horse Power Wangan monsters, and they were all getting along in the one spot! ill upload some photos i took there when im home!

Same here, if you go through Nissan or Mazda rent a car you can get 370z's, skylines, roadsters and rx-8's.

Orix does the R35 rentals but that 'll be stretching my budget a bit too far :)

If you guys have any recommendations on performance car hire please let me know!

Dropped past Daikoku Futo P.A last Saturday night to see what was going down, ended up staying for about 4hrs until the cops shut it down. Definitely a must see on a weekend night for any JDM car fan. A bit of everything was out - lots of weird, wonderful and plain awesome cars out. Here's a few of my favourites:

1. It appeared as though this guy cleaned out the LED & Neon aisle at Autobacs and stuck it all on the car randomly. The kids loved it though.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/june2011/IMG_0505.jpg
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/june2011/IMG_0499.jpg

2. This Van looked completely stock outside. Then he opened the door... then the boot.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/june2011/IMG_0580.jpg
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/june2011/IMG_0586.jpg

3. They battled for ages against each other to see who was loudest. It had the security guys calling the cops in no time.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/june2011/IMG_0582.jpg
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/june2011/IMG_0663.jpg

4. This guy got owned by the cops later in the night. It seems Australia isn't the only place where Defecting happens!
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/june2011/IMG_0623.jpg
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/june2011/IMG_0624.jpg

5. Really loved the look of this S15. Wandered over and had a chat to the owner and his friend. I've always found Silvia drivers to be a friendly bunch.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/june2011/IMG_0639.jpg
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/june2011/IMG_0642.jpg

6. This was just downright nuts. Not my kind of thing, but damn I was amused.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/june2011/IMG_0656.jpg

7. Fat Cima
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/june2011/IMG_0658.jpg

8. Wish I knew what was done to this JZX100 Chaser. It sounded mean.
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/june2011/IMG_0693.jpg

9. Presidential Style
http://ichiyon.net/images/japan/june2011/IMG_0715.jpg

10. The Gold Supra was strange. Left hand drive, US Spec car. Automatic. Big snail. He opened up the gate when leaving, though.

11. Viper!!

Had a great night there, will drop in again next time I'm in Tokyo for certain.

Hiring a car makes life easy - you're crazy not to try it. I always park overnight at the hotel for 1500 yen, as cheap as Sydney. Only expensive part can be the Tolls if you go on a big road trip.

From memory, Winter is the time to go if you like more performance cars like the Expressway runners...

Summer is more the Bippu + party cars lol... But the runners come out too just later when they want to go on their run...

Concerning that Black Supra, you'll find some strange stuff in LHD, dunno why but to some of the Japanese guys and gals, USDM is worth big kudos...

Same story though, US/Aussie guys wants to be JDMtyte (Generally speaking) but the Japanese want to be like us XD

Npz ^_^

Most of those batmobiles have only a parking bay with no cover either on the road in front of the house or on the land itself there is a little bay to park their car. If enough money it'll have a carport. Only a uber rich Japanese citizen can afford to 'use' precious house space to integrate a garage into the house. Don't forget thief there is very very seldom, I remember seeing Supercars parked under carports when I first visited and though they're insane but after staying there for a while, you get use to not haven't a car alarm or locking your car lolz...

For anyone driving over beware that getting into and out of the carpark part and into and out of the island part (where people will be drifting) you need to go different ways, you can get out of the carpark just fine, but getting back in is a PITA. I think the first time i went there i drove accross the bay bridge three times working it out hahahaha!
No way in hell would i walk from motomachi chukagai, that bridge is freakin huge and i'm not even sure if you CAN walk on it!
I was puffing and panting just walking up the hill from motomachi chukagai to where my ex gf worked haha!

Randomly when I DID walk up there i recognised the park there from a manga i was reading at the time, wierd!

And completely unrelated.

Oh yeah it's not ALWAYS a car mecca, i've been there when it's been quite empty, like 2 cars, usually there are vans with massive sound systems, but often there isn't much in the way of performance and the drifters aren't always there either. If they DO drift the corner right outisde the carpark area you can sit on the wall of the parking area and see them without leaving the carpark though :).

This Bosozoku gang pretty much took over the place. The guy looking at the camera came up to me after I took the photo & I was expecting trouble. He starts doing these ridiculous poses so I snap away. Motions for me to get on the bike. I throw my better judgement aside and hop on...

Still alive to tell the story but I was holding on for my life haha. One of many ridiculous Japan experiences!

Ohhhh....the memories.... :(

My wife and I use to meet our friends there every friday and saturday night without fail when we were living there. They use to drift just outside of there whenever they werent hassled by the cops.
We then use to head off with them to other hangouts/carparks and then after 1pm head off to a certain carpark where they hangout for a while then head off to the industrial area nearby and watch the drifting for at least an hour before cops came. I use to have about 100hrs of footage on my video camera until it decided to pack it in and lost all memory.....:(

I miss that place so bad... Its only 10mins drive from our office in Yokohama....

Hey guys,

i was on the evo oz forums and some one has lead me onto this topic!

Im going to Japan during the autosalon weekend and just enquired for the R35 rental.
Quick question to the guys who has been there during the Tokyo Autosalon weekend.... Would it be packed at Daikuko futo that night ( since its during the autosalon weekend) or should i just go and hang at the Autosalon carpark?

Ive read previously that people meet at daikoku futo before heading to the autosalon carpark.... True?

thank you all for the helpful info!

Went to Z32 zone also (was a couple hr train ride out of Tokyo) and bought some stuff which was interesting as they spoke as much Engrish as I speak Japanese - none. But we managed :D

After we'd finished there, we walked back to the train station and headed for the city again where I was going to check out super autobacs. Think autobarn/supercheap etc on steriods. You can buy work etc right off the shelf!. Recaro, bride, helmets, boots, import (read euro) gear, brakes, suspension (tein, JIC etc), rice, so much rice.

This place has a waiting room (for wives) with massage chairs, vending machines, tv etc. Aparantly I was in the shop for 1.5hrs :ninja: :quag:

Won't bore you with other pics of zoo's and temples and Mt Fuji etc. But here's a couple of random stuff

Read 'Futo' and thought of this

i'm also going to TAS and i'll be arriving at Tokyo on Friday afternoon. i would also love to go to daikoku futo but i don't think it's easily assessible by train. you might need to catch a cab to go there from JR station as i don't think you can walk there. however depends on time, it might be very hard to go back as JR station closes around mid night. i'm also not sure how easy to catch a cab back to JR station as it's in the middle of no where.

so instead i'm planning to go to Super Autobacs on Saturday night as it's pretty close to the TAS venue.

your best bet is to hire a car get one with gps and that would make it easier than the train or even a cab as i dont think many cabs just drive over there to pick up people and

Well, I finally got to Daikoku Futo!

This place is truly amazing. I had such an awesome, fun and humbling experience here.
None of which I would not have had, had it not been for the people I met there.

Every JDM car nut must go here at least once to see the vast array of cars that come in here.
And every other car enthusiast must come here at least once to witness what kind of atmosphere we should all strive to achieve. No hating, no weird looks. Just people of all different walks of life all sharing one passion in such a friendly and inviting way.

I have so many pics, none of which will look good to anyone but me lol
So I'll post one for now.

Not my blog.
I warn you though. Viewing these pics can definitely inspire the insides to want to go Daikoku and to Japan !

also.
it is definitely worth going there.

I guess, like anything, it can be hit or miss.
And at first. It was. Nothing spectacular came in. But depending on how long you've known about this place and seen pics of it etc Then even just being there feels good to some people (like me)
Fortunately, it turned into quite an EPIC day for me
=)

On how to get there - I was again very fortunate to have a friend of mine pick me up from Yokohama station. I would definitely suggest going there by car rental. You can rent one for half a day. Make sure it has English GPS. The Yokohama freeways are VERY confusing.

Also, on the Friday and Saturday nights, they also close the entrance to Daikoku at 8pm due to all the drifting and burnouts lol

Just letting you know that because of idiots revving their loud cars/bikes and people in vans with massive stereos at full volume, Daikoku has started to be closed on weekend nights from roughly 8pm-12am. There are some nice cars earlier than that, and dedicated people will gather in the wee hours, but it's not going to be a massive meet spot like it was in the past.

I take it the evening closures are a fairly recent thing Aly? I was there with a friend in about July and it seemed to be open all night at that point. I was hoping to rent a nice car (waiting to hear back from a rental company right now) and head down there after Auto Salon this weekend, but I may have to change my mind on that if things are going to be excessively quiet.

It's been going on for quite a while, judging by a quick Google search. Seems it's most likely to happen on Friday and Saturday nights, and from around 8pm, although the truth of the matter is that it is closed when the authorities want it to be closed, and there isn't a set schedule. Some Saturday nights it still doesn't close, you just never know. Apparently there is a mixi group for letting people know about closures.

Incidentally, I went there on Saturday 28 December around 10pm and it was closed.

Fair enough. I thought that might be what happens. Will be interesting to see how things shake out being Auto Salon weekend. I think I'll just take my chances, rent a car and take the long way home if they do happen to close the parking area. Any chance of a link to the mixi group or is it a closed shop as far as viewing the posts goes? I might try and test my Japanese out on that one if it's public :P

By the way, you're not still in Japan are you?

was there in the last week of Nov on Fri night and was a packed turnout. Got there around 9 and left at 1am. Unmissable experience. We hired an 86 to go down there, wouldve gotten so lost without a GPS

I visited on a Friday night in nov 12 and experienced a reasonable turnout. It's worth driving the Tokyo bay tunnel afterwards, especially during the midnight to 2am period as you may come across some high speed tunnel runs.

Not to mention a 360 in the rear view mirror. Man what a turn out! Was the EB110 in a group or just a cooincidence? One of my favourite"Kids wall poster" cars

good spotting redbird! actually neither of these cars were at daikoku, just randomly spotted them on the street. actually the f40 and a number of other super cars following him didn't go to daikoku either... i guess just cruising/racing on the streets!

Would there be any events on January 1 2015 at Daikoku, or would it be likely that everyone is with their families?
