View Full Version : My project - Getting closer.......

Jing
02-06-07, 12:55 PM
Well under the reasoning of Justin i decided to share this with all of you guys. I was going to detail everything once its done but what the hell. Hopefully it will contribute to the forums in some way and show that honda owners are not just all ricers

Anyways abit of history, some of you might have seen my car already from awhile back. Ive had it for a few years now and whilst the first build was complete within 1.5 years this new build is taking abit longer.

It was the first car i modified "seriously" and i loved driving it. I sold it to a friend and purchase myself an evo but it was just not for me. When time came around i offered my friend to repurchase the car and to do it up my way with no compromises.

My build would be classified as stupid by some because you shouldn't/wouldn't spend that much money on a type r. Yes i know that a used gt3 was within the target price range previous to setting out the 2nd build but this is not what the car is about. I have always had a love for the most top tier of modifications.

Whilst the photos wont show you all the pics of all the parts i think it highlights and documents the process quite well.

Aims?

1000KG
Sub 1.50 time at EC
1.10 at Wakefield

The following link has most of the pictures but the newer pics will be included in this thread.

Since the last picture was updated on that website i have acquired some additional parts.

wow. i think its unreal that you kept it on the low Jing.
some great work there mate.

give me a hint on some engine goodies!

was the car purchased new/2nd hand and slowly turned into this, or was it purchased as something that couldnt be used for road and went all out with the build?

cant wait to see this completed.

Jing
04-06-07, 11:29 AM
Nah the car was purchase pretty much new and ive had it for awhile. The only reason why i purchased my particular dc5r back is because i knew it has never had one accident in its entire life and thats something which is hard to find out there for a car of this age i guess.

This was the car's last life thanks to Easton

CW DC5R....yum.

Jing
04-06-07, 03:26 PM
thanks derek. Although i like cw im not too super fussed about it. The reason why i had to do it was when we stripped out all the silicon stuff between welds to seam weld the car we had to strip all the paint off it and welding and so forth. The car was due for a respray after that.. Thought id just do it properly with the type r color of choice......... :D

I was sent a link to this because the aims of the project are pretty much the same as mine (except I want to do under 1:50 / under 1:10 / under 1000kg, and under 10 grand :))
All good so far, just gotta drop a couple more seconds :)

Those times are my goals as well.....eventually :P

Assuming those are times for EC and Wakie respectively.

Except there is NO way I can get under 1000kg and keep it under 10 grand haha.

Money wise, I dont even wanna talk about it, its better not to hehe, but in terms of weight I think even if I go carbon doors and carbon boot the best I can get is like 1250kg or there abouts.

Sorry to hijack the thread Jing.

I guess you can pop the original doors on to get through engineering and then pop the CF ones later and no one would know.

Big ups for taking the plunge.

Jing

yes the door outer skin will be painted white to match. I am not really a fan of bare carbon parts.

In answer to the engine here is my response on the other forum that i visit

to be honest im not experienced with high power fwd cars.

My ideals are that fwd and power usually dont mix up to a certain amoout of power and i am interested in finding this limit out at the track. However its not something you can find by just looking into your account and seeing how much money u should spend. As such power setup will be ECU/I/H/E mods which should net me along 130kw at the minimum.

From there we will do extensive track testing and see. I would like to achieve the goals using a stock engine as my primary interest is weight reduction. But yeah power is something that is not too hard to come by with the k series. Id be super happy with egk20a's engine performance

the more you lighten the car the higher power to weight ratio the car will have so effectivley its like making more horsepower alot like putting a k20 into a civic

either way reducing the weight will help with everything and your spending some big $$$ should be an machine once its done

Good point.........once you get power to weight down to the 7's things get pretty fark'n interesting.

you should look at getting cams so you can drive it on bathurst......hahhahah fark'n race car on that track would be heaven.

typical japanese pieces.

Dry carbon finish inside with a clear coat layer on the outside. Should be standard fitment for all electricals/window gear but we will have to try and seee how it works out.

Made by a well known jap company so should AOK!

Wow Jing that is definitely how to do a project car and how to do one properly...

It looks immaculate and looks to have the right goals and plans to make the thing happen...

Plan the work, work the plan...
