Sup guys,

So my friends and I are currently in the middle of a 10 day long road trip from
Canberra to Brisbane - The goal? To find the best driving roads.

Friday saw the two eurofags drive from Canberra to my house in Sydney. Day two saw us leaving pre-dawn up the putty through the New England Hwy to Brisbane.

Nice dawn.

Storm Pooper is not amused at riding in the back.

Leaving through Windsor was rather agricultural.

Putty Road always is enjoyable.
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk214/whiteballz/Road%20Trip%2011%20Part%201/Roadtripweekend042.jpg

Not to mention very photogenic
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk214/whiteballz/Road%20Trip%2011%20Part%201/Roadtripweekend088.jpg

We made it to Singleton before we encountered any police.
Cruising three cars at 120 attracted the attention of the police but both Euro Hatchbacks (Golf GTI + Focus ST170) got waved on without a look.
My flatmates 180 however didn't avoid the gaze of the law.

While he got off lightly it breifly did dampen the mood.

Shortcut to arriving at Clutch-Monkeys house outside of brisbane the nissan finally succumbed to its heritage.
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk214/whiteballz/Road%20Trip%2011%20Part%201/Roadtripweekend140.jpg

We ended up crashing fairly early after the 14 hour drive because we were attending the Club HighRollers cruise to Wivenhoe damn.

Despite some minor navigational mishaps it was a great success. Lots of great cars and awesome roads.

After bailing from the dam we decided to go hunting. And wow, we found some outstanding roads. Out little convoy consisted of Clutches 965 "Grimace" Porsche, Alexs Focus ST170, Regi's Mk4 Gti and Ferdinand's Evo9. Missing was Bens 180SX due to an electrical fault and lack of wheels (Issues fitting new rims over night).

We stopped at Kilcoy and had a great pub lunch.
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk214/whiteballz/Road%20Trip%2011%20Part%201/Roadtripweekend434.jpg

From there we continued on and SE Qld is certianly a great place if you love mountian roads.
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk214/whiteballz/Road%20Trip%2011%20Part%201/Roadtripweekend480.jpg

Stopping for roadworks was a great excuse to jump out and grab a group shot.
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk214/whiteballz/Road%20Trip%2011%20Part%201/Roadtripweekend457.jpg

Returning home on our first day in Brisbane left plenty of time to get some rolling shots.

Installment 2:

I'll try to brave the fact we've just suffered a loss (albeit a good one) deep inside enemy territory.

Today we went out to O'Reily's. Its a brilliant drive but I've come to the conclusion the only thing wrong with QLD roads are QLD drives.

Stopping briefly to attach the GoPro HD to the back of the Porsche to watch the Focus Chase (way closer than you think)
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk214/whiteballz/QLD%20Road%20Trip%20Part%202/Roadtripweekend603.jpg

The view on the way up is outstanding.
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk214/whiteballz/QLD%20Road%20Trip%20Part%202/Roadtripweekend637.jpg

I sticker-bomb'd the Porsche without Clutch realising.
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk214/whiteballz/QLD%20Road%20Trip%20Part%202/Roadtripweekend609.jpg

We then went on some massive trans continental (In reality about 12 KM) mountain trek. (Photos not included) where we stopped for lunch at a waterfall.

When we got to the top we began the return journey home for Origin 3.

Coming back home.
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk214/whiteballz/QLD%20Road%20Trip%20Part%202/Roadtripweekend634.jpg

The Focus and golf shot ahead after Clutch stopped for the photo op.
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk214/whiteballz/QLD%20Road%20Trip%20Part%202/Roadtripweekend640.jpg

It is a close shot between the two.
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk214/whiteballz/QLD%20Road%20Trip%20Part%202/Roadtripweekend648.jpg

However Alex - the driver of the Focus ST170 had bigger balls and brakes thus getting the clean run down Tambourine Mountain.
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk214/whiteballz/QLD%20Road%20Trip%20Part%202/RoadTripWeekend683.jpg

All in all it was a big day, with the NSW loss marring an otherwise flawless 24 hours!

I have missed a days worth of photos so I'll find them and edit an earlier post to include them.

Today was a quiet one, we woke up, had a big lovely spread for breakfast.
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk214/whiteballz/QLD%20Road%20Trip%20Part%203/Roadtripweekend980-1.jpg

Took the new chassis of Clutches Triumph to get some work done, watched a movie
(The dog didn't enjoy it)
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk214/whiteballz/QLD%20Road%20Trip%20Part%203/Roadtripweekend1016.jpg

After that we basically farted around and cleaned and polished all the cars.

Golf is not amused.
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk214/whiteballz/QLD%20Road%20Trip%20Part%203/Roadtripweekend1039.jpg

The mini in particular polished up well.

http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk214/whiteballz/QLD%20Road%20Trip%20Part%203/Roadtripweekend1060.jpg

Then Grimace

http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk214/whiteballz/QLD%20Road%20Trip%20Part%203/Roadtripweekend1167.jpg

Then the Focus

http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk214/whiteballz/QLD%20Road%20Trip%20Part%203/Roadtripweekend1072.jpg

http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk214/whiteballz/QLD%20Road%20Trip%20Part%203/Roadtripweekend1048.jpg

We then proceeded to fart Arse around some more and play Mario kart and compare photos from the meet on Sunday.
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk214/whiteballz/QLD%20Road%20Trip%20Part%203/Roadtripweekend1131.jpg

I also got a chance in the beautiful afternoon light to practice some candid photography.

Well I got home this evening, fighting through Sydney traffic wasn't enjoyable, but I'm glad to have done it.

I've got tomorrow off so I'll go through the days of photos that I missed and chuck them up!

Should mention we topped 4000 kays in 9 days. It was flat out but I wouldn't change a thing!

Will also have videos up too!

So how was the ride to and from there?
Just wanting to know out of curiosity what the comfort was like, fuel, etc? :P
So Im semi-prepared for Sydney, when I leave in 3 weeks. haha :)

We stopped a lot on the trip north, It took us about 14 hours, the trip down took about 11.

Fuel was pretty good, I know the Golf GTi averaged 7litres per 100km on the highway, In all just under two full tanks IIRC.

The 180 was also pretty good on fuel too - which surprised me.

I was uncomfortable on the way south because I rolled my ankle on Saturday and was unable to keep it in a good position. On the way up It was easy and lots of rest breaks stopped us getting tired.

mitsupower90
13-07-11, 09:47 AM
Just under 2 fuel tanks is pretty good. One can only hope the supra's not too thirsy. I suppose the trick would be not too put your foot down too often :P
So constant rest stops then is the winner?
Should be a good trip I think tho :) You guys looked like you had a ball lol

Its definitely hard to adjust back into work/home life after spending a week trying to get the other guys lost/hurt/arrested constantly.

I'm thinking of flying north just to participate in the cruise down from Brisbane for super lap.

Inland feels faster, but even with traffic the coastal route is quicker.

EDIT @ Phat_nam: Clutch would be the better person to ask what roads we did, I only know a few of them.

Peachester road is the one that sticks in my mind the most though - also Mt Mee is brilliant, as is the stuff out by Wivenhoe dam towards Kilcoy.
