Hey guys, just joined JDMST and decided to start my car diary. On the 7th of august 2011, i got into an accident, where some chixxx rear-ended my '06 Mitsubishi Lancer and it got written off. Here are a couple of pic's from the accident.

http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m603/v_M4n/vMan%20Evolution/SNC00316.jpg

http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m603/v_M4n/vMan%20Evolution/SNC00313.jpg

Now it was time to look for a new car, it took about 6 week's until i found what i wanted, all i needed was a couple of $$$ from the parents and i could finally buy one of my dream cars.

MITSUBISHI EVOLUTION X

http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m603/v_M4n/vMan%20Evolution/IMG_1577.jpg

Only having the car for 4 days, i thought it was about time that i started moding it. My first mod was an Injen Cold Air Intake, shortly after buying it, me and a couple of friends went to a friends house to have a car day.

http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m603/v_M4n/vMan%20Evolution/IMG_1570.jpg

It took about 3hrs to install, i know thats really slow, but i was kinda noob with this, but eventually it was done.

http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m603/v_M4n/vMan%20Evolution/IMG_1564.jpg

http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m603/v_M4n/vMan%20Evolution/IMG_1600.jpg

About 1 week later, was looking on the forum and found a pretty cheap turbo timer, so i impulsively bought one, as well as a harness.

http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m603/v_M4n/vMan%20Evolution/IMG_1571.jpg

I tried to install the turbo timer but FAILED hard. the turbo timer didnt count down, so the engine was still running along after the car was switched off. so i took it out and will probably install it later, by a professional.

Went to the JDM EOMM at EQ, and got a JDM sticker off a friend

http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m603/v_M4n/vMan%20Evolution/IMG_1575.jpg

So far thats about it for my new car.

Man haven't updated this thread in sooo long, been quiet busy hanging with friends and work, but since my last post ive done quiet a bit to my car, i bought some BC Racing Coilovers ER Series and went to a private track day at Wakefeild.

About a month a go, i sold my Sparco Pro2000 bucket seats for $1200, and with this money i bought some BC Coilovers from JustJap, Kirrawee.

http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m603/v_M4n/SNC00331.jpg

Later that week went to a friends house and installed them.

http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m603/v_M4n/prepday.jpg

It took me about 8 hours to install, with about 4 friends helping me, i know that's a long time, but what can i say, im just a noob.

Then the next day, we went track day at wakefield.

http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m603/v_M4n/wakefield.jpg

Didnt get the best time on that day, only got 1:18, not that good considering i have an evo, but it was my first time, and had heaps of fun, definitely want to go again.

I have some more images, but i need to find them , ill upload them when i can. But for now still need to install my turbo timer, and i also bought a side mount plate holder, so ill get those installed ASAP, and upload photos.

And also will probably be getting an exhaust as well but not too sure which on to get, the ones that im thinking of getting are:

Amuse RS-Silent

http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m603/v_M4n/nengun-1896-02-amuse-rs-silent.png

Amuse R1 Titan Extra

http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m603/v_M4n/nengun-1406-00-amuse-r1_titan_extra.jpg

Blitz Nur-Spec C-Ti Quad with Rear Diffuser

http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m603/v_M4n/nengun-3613-00-blitz-nur-spec_quad_model_series_-_c-ti_quad_exhaust_system.jpg

But still not sure which one to get, it would be good to get some feedback on these if you guys know or dont know anything about them.

So far thats about it for my car.

Enjoy ^.^V

OK, just got a couple more updates, since last i was talking about getting an exhaust, but i didn't know which one to get, but I've decided to get the BLITZ NUR-SPEC C-TI QUAD EVO X - EXHAUST SYSTEM. I just recently put down the deposit for the exhaust system, i went to IS Motor Racing.

http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m603/v_M4n/SNC00343.jpg

I pretty much chose this over the powerhouse amuse because i couldn't find a lot of review on this product, and i personally think the blitz looks better =D

Since i installed my coilovers and put 3.5 degrees camber on it, there was a huge gap, so i bought some 25mm spacers from JDM Yard, definitely worth it, pretty happy with the results.

http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m603/v_M4n/SNC00340.jpg

http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m603/v_M4n/SNC00341.jpg

http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m603/v_M4n/SNC00342.jpg

I forgot to take some before pics, i was just too keen to install them =)

Finally, not really a mod, but a friend bought me a Hyper Rev for the Evo X, even though i can't read Japanese its definitely worth looking at what is out there, this magazine has everything you'll need, i highly recommend it.

nice car mate. very lucky.

not an evo man so excuse any ignorance- just wondering why you got spacers rather than a camber kit to actually re adjust the wheels to a less aggressive camber? as the spacers will only fill out the gap caused from the lowering job?

LOL i got BC Racing Coilover with pillow ball camber top mounts, for track at Wakefield, so when i installed them, just for fun i set it to 3.5 degrees camber. So if i change back to zero degrees i probably won't need the spacers, but ill probably put it back to 2 degrees or something. Does that answer your question?

14-01-12, 02:06 PM
Sorry to say but BC are possibly the worst entry level coilover on the market.
They are a cheap imatation of a tein. Ask your self why there is such a big gap in price difference.
Suspension quality is built on price. BC's are cheap Teins are possibly one of the best on the market.

Thats debatable.

Res
14-01-12, 02:52 PM
Thats debatable.

yep i agree i own teins, very debatable, for a street and light track car i would go BC's any day they perform very well for such a low cost
same goes for GABs, they may be cheap as hell, but they are quite a good budget street coilover, (probably wouldnt take gabs on track tho) but never the less they are a decent coilover

Andrew05
14-01-12, 07:21 PM
Thats debatable.

Sorry if I upset anyone but its all debatable.
Well I have a set of Tein GR Gravel Techs & a set of Koni Adjustable with Eibach & Kings.
I have had a couple of sets of BC's & in one set had 6 pairs of Pillow balls. (Faulty nylon crushed coursing the pillow ball to rattle in top mount housing.
(for some reason evo's & wrx's & liberty's have more of issue than other cars with this problem).
All I'm saying is you want cheap buy cheap. You want quality & longevity (Which BC's won't offer) do the homework look at what your buying & buy the right product
A quality shock or coilover will last a longer than a cheaper one thus making the quality one better value for money.
I would not be saying "I have Tein's & even I want BC's".
I have had no issue with Tein's or my Koni's & beauty is you can rebuild, re-valve & modify to you liking.
After all its the right set up that gets the power down & I'm sorry but BC's are like I said entry level & should not be compared to a superior product.
I know plenty of people that have complained about Tein's as well but that's because they have bought the wrong Type E.G Tein Street & expected them to perform under Track conditions.
I'm constantly getting asked about repairing coilovers for rattles, knocks grinding noises etc & most of the complaints are BC's that are less than 6-12 months old.
The rebuild on the Tein's are usually 3-5 years old. More than double the longevity.

14-01-12, 08:37 PM
LOL thanks guys for the input, much appreciated.

I'll just give you guys an insight into what i was thinking when i bought the coilovers. Firstly, I'm trying to mod my car in such a way that I'm trying to do everything right the first time, so i wont need to ever buy the same mod again over a short period of time (pretty much why i didn't get springs, also i might upgrade depending on what i have in mind for the car). I wanted my car to look that bit more aggressive, another reason why i bought coilovers over springs, to lower and add camber. Then it was the tough decision to go for a high end product, such as Teins, but i chose BC Racing because i DIDN'T expect to be tracking my car a whole lot but i still want that aggressive look. Then next obstacle was price, i didn't have a HUGE budget plus I can be pretty impatient. If you guys can find better coilovers than the BC Racing ER (External Reservoir) Series for $1,800, new or second hand, post them up, but keep in mind i did buy these about 2 months ago.

In the end i think i made the right decision, given my wants and needs, i know BC Racing can have problems over time, but I'm not going to be tracking my car every week, I'm just going to be doing normal driving, plus with the External Reservoir Series, i can still have that extra performance if i do decide to go track.

In conclusion its hard to say whether Teins are better or worse than BC Racing or any other coilovers, it all depends on the the drivers wants and needs, there's no point in buying high end products, especially coilovers, if you are not going to use them to their full potential.

Just in case you guys are interested, i bought the side skirts from ebay:

Just a quick review, since this is just a replica, 2/10 of pre-drilled holes weren't exact but the others were. But later on i will drill the holes so that all of the holes line up, until then it sits fine.

nice car man! im guessing you have the gsr? basing it purely on the front nose (black for gsr's and brownish for mr's), I see your point on getting springs VS coils which i shouldve done the first time around! besides the exhaust what engine mods are you planning to do?

CZ4A.
22-01-12, 11:07 PM
correct.
GSR performance pack, this is because his side strips are black and not colour coded. The front is also not chrome which also points to it being a GSR.

Nice car, good modding and good to see you're having a go yourself and actually taking the car to the track.

Just a question though, why did you choose to spend 4k on an exhaust but 1800 on coilovers?

vMan
23-01-12, 08:41 AM
what engine mods are you planning to do?

Well with my exhaust I'm also going to get a Tomei Downpipe and a JMF Twin Scroll Exhaust Manifold, maybe later get a Tomei Camshaft and Tomei Camgears (but might be a while), and not too sure what else after that, don't want to get too ahead of myself, just one step at a time.

why did you choose to spend 4k on an exhaust but 1800 on coilovers?

I want my Evo to have something special, i don't want to put 100% average mods into it. So i decided to go all out on my exhaust, i only spent 1800 on coils because short term (couple of years) i don't really intend to be tracking my car a whole lot (2-3 times a year?), but in the case that i do i still want a bit of performance that's why i chose BC Racing ER series coils, if i didn't EVER want to track my car, i would have gotten a lower end BC coils.

I have been waiting so long for this part, but it finally arrived, i bought a Varis Style front lip and i just installed it then, here are a couple of before and after shots.

Before: Front.
http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m603/v_M4n/20120206_152357.jpg

After: Front.
http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m603/v_M4n/20120206_152454.jpg

Before: Side.
http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m603/v_M4n/20120206_152414.jpg

After: Side.
http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m603/v_M4n/20120206_152508.jpg

It was pretty easy installing it, took just over an hour, first i took of the front bumper, here's what the Evo X looks like without it, in case you're curious.
http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m603/v_M4n/20120206_155225.jpg

Then got some clothe and put the bumper on it, and whacked on the lip, easy as.
http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m603/v_M4n/20120206_161946.jpg

The lip came with some random parts that i didn't use, and i don't really know what they are for, but if anyone knows please tell me.
http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m603/v_M4n/20120206_173346.jpg

Since it is a replica, there are a couple of imperfections, like this gap on the side, but it doesn't bother me that much, ill will most likely fill it in later
http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m603/v_M4n/20120206_173637.jpg

I also lowered the back a bit because it was a bit too high for my liking.
http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m603/v_M4n/20120206_181506.jpg

Finally i also got an aftermarket Evolution X badge, not a huge fan of the "X", but it does the job.

FFFUUUU $4k on an exhaust. I'd love to have money like that to throw around. Definitely a nice upgrade from arguably the worst model lancer ever conceived. Do these things come out with the dual clutch gearbox or is it a regular H-pattern?

Are you going to keep the factory BBS rims or go aftermarket? Would probably need a tidy up to fix the gutter rash - then she'll be sitting pretty.

I still need to wait for my exhaust, but when it comes in ill get picks, and ill try and get get pics of the install as well. I kinda like the mudflaps, but i think i need to remove them because they are scraping everywhere now that i lowered my rear, and with wheels and tyres i don't think im gonna get them for a while since i don't wanna cheap out on them, gonna wait and save to get the perfect wheels and tyres. As for other mods don't really wanna think about it, just wanna do one thing at a time, but i do have an idea of what i want.

Ah nice, yeah Indy tuned my evo 10 aswell.
Will be interesting to see the gains on the tomei since not many people have tried it yet. I would have tried it, only that I had already purchased my hks gt extension kit before the tomei one was released... Let us all know how it goes.

Ok, its been a while since i last updated, only just a couple of things, i test fitted some TE37's and got my exhaust in (finally =D). So about 2 weeks ago a guy was selling a set of mint condition TE37 19" 5x114.3 9.5 +22, which is pretty much my dream set of wheels, but unfortunately i didnt have enough cash, so i asked him for a test fit, here are a couple of pic.

http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m603/v_M4n/20120317_100857.jpg

I hoping that when i get enough cash, its still around. Then earlier this week my Blitz exhaust came in, so i went down to IS Motor Racing to have a look.

http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m603/v_M4n/20120321_093327.jpg

There were a couple of problems, i still needed to get the rear diffuser painted and installed before the exhaust could be put in, but that wasnt too hard.

http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m603/v_M4n/20120323_195800.jpg

I went to Golbert Restorations Accident Repair Centre, they seemed pretty nice, and they did a pretty good job on painting the rear diffuser.

Then the next day went down to IS Motor Racing for the install, i still cant believe how good the exhaust looks.

Just a quick review, the exhaust isnt that much louder than stock, it has a good rumble when the car is idle, when i give it a hit, i can hear the exhaust but then the suction from my intake takes over, this is all from inside the car, might be different when standing on the outside, but overall im heaps happy with the exhaust. IS Motor Racing i think is probably the best tuning shop in Sydney, Indy and Nic were heaps nice, offering heaps of advice, i think i will definitely be going there for all my mods in the future, HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM.

Hey guys, ive been trying to get a sound clip for the exhaust but been kinda lazy, pretty much all the sound clip that i have you cant really hear the exhaust, but ill get on it soon.

Haven't really done a lot since last time, i just bought 4 cans of plastidip and had some fun with it.

http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m603/v_M4n/20120419_214936.jpg

First thing i did was put this on my car, i know a lot of people are gonna hate on it, but its just for fun.

Most of my friends are pretty ashamed of what i did to my car, but i think it looks good (y). Then after that i plastidipped my wheels, this took a while and i did kind of rush it, so it looks kinda bad up close, but from afar, it looks fine.

http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m603/v_M4n/20120420_162520.jpg

I still had some left, and i was bored, so i then plastidipped my hood and side vents, i kind of got carried away with it, but its pretty fun just plastidipping everything.

I got the Plastidip from a place called prime electronics in Homebush West, the address is:

http://maps.google.com.au/maps?hl=en&gbv=2&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=prime+electronics&fb=1&gl=au&hq=prime+electronics&hnear=0x6b129838f39a743f:0x3017d681632a850,Sydney, +NSW&cid=0,0,14490150813461328457&ei=v6uUT6zEPKOhiAfpy_WJBA&sa=X&oi=local_result&ct=image&ved=0CBwQ_BI

The only problem is that they only have a limited supply, so you need to call them up before hand to see whats in stock, but generally they can get it from the main distributor and ship it over in a couple of days. Also they only have white, black, red, yellow and blue in spray cans, and other colours like fluro colours aren't in aerosol.

Still loving my exhaust, Blitz FTW.

I SPOT THE OFFICE :D

Not exactly too sure what my goal is at the moment, i only say FP Black because vSport is selling one second hand. I've been trying to read up on what turbo is best and the pros and cons of it, since this is my daily i don't want something that will ruin my engine, thats why i kinda want peoples opinions, ill look into a lot more when i get the money.

Who is gonna tune this? I'd consult with them as to what turbo you get, or do some proper research. EvoOZ has heaps of info regarding choosing a turbo. Don't just buy one cause it's cheap or different to what other guys are running, you'll spend all that money and your car will run like shit and have little power increase. Do some research..

More than likely im gonna go to IS Motor Racing, ive had a look at what people say about evo tuners around sydney and there seems to be mixed reviews. I've been looking at hand-full of bolt-on turbos for the evo and reading other peoples build threads from other forums, and thats why ive been putting off buying a turbo for so long, because i want to get the right one, my goal is power atm.

Yeah i dunno why there's problems, its hard to judge when all people write is "IS Motor Racing is good/ bad, etc", when they dont state what their setup is or what their goals are, or give any information as to what car they got tuned. Its good to know that you're happy with ISMR, give me a bit more confidence to go with them.
