this is my current project that im doing. only been doin it for about 3 months or so at the moment. only getting to work on it on weekends and if i get an early mark from work.

so... this is wats happened. on another car forum i seen the s2000 for sale for very cheap. in the begining it was only the engine and everything to get it running that was for sale. and after about a month (may) of dicking around talking with the guy i ended up buying the whole car. actually worked out cheaper for me. after i paid the guy it took about another month (june) before i even got the car, it was coming from sydney and i am in brisbane. but old mate kept fucking around it went from 4-5 days after moneys was exchanged to a month, whilst the car was in transit the owner mentioned to me that he 'forgot' to put the dash cluster and computer in with it. so another month past (july) of waiting for the parts to arrive and being told that they are now 'lost' in the mail the guy ended up going to the wreckers and buying the ecu and cluster for me. i recon he sold them parts but didnt hav the guts to tell me, either way i got wat i wanted in the end,

ok so this is wat i had to start with, hired a trailor and got it from the depot

http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd503/haveaparty1/ae71%20f20c/IMG_0515.jpg

got it to where im working on it

http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd503/haveaparty1/ae71%20f20c/IMG_0569.jpg

finally the parts arrived
http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd503/haveaparty1/ae71%20f20c/IMG_0588.jpg

now at this stage i didnt know wat i was goin to do with it, i always planned on putting the engine into a ke/ae corolla but didnt even hav one to put it in yet.

after looking at a few cars to put it in the owner of this called me up and sed i could hav it for less then i offered him in the begining (winning)

http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd503/haveaparty1/ae71%20f20c/IMG_0529.jpg

enter ae71 panel van
this worked out super well cause i didnt want the hassle of finding a hydraulic clutch setup and making it fit to a ke, i know its easy to do but getting a clutch pedal setup it the hard part

car is exceptionally clean for its age, no major damage and only a small amount of rust

obviously will get a new bonnet, well i wanna make it jdm front with the quad lights anyway, will remove both rear panel and replace them with glass then there will only be a tiny bit in the tail gate to do.

even the interior is in mint condition with only a rip in the drivers seat. anyway stripped it out one day wen i was bored and still waiting for the ecu and cluster to show up
http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd503/haveaparty1/ae71%20f20c/IMG_0557.jpg

http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd503/haveaparty1/ae71%20f20c/IMG_0567.jpg

so once the parts did arrive i plugged the ecu in put some fuel in it and fired her up

http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd503/haveaparty1/ae71%20f20c/th_IMG_0593.jpg (http://s1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd503/haveaparty1/ae71%20f20c/?action=view&current=IMG_0593.mp4)

then had to wire the guage cluster in cause the knob head cut the wries to take it out

http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd503/haveaparty1/ae71%20f20c/th_IMG_0594.jpg (http://s1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd503/haveaparty1/ae71%20f20c/?action=view&current=IMG_0594.mp4)

then went and took it for a test drive. connected the radiator back up and went to take of wen i realised it wouldnt go anywhere, after jacking it up i realised that the rear drive shafts had been unbolted. so bolted them up and away we went, took it for a drive with no radiator cap on so wat happened next was bound to happen.

whilst driving the car there was alot of knocking and clunking. got over this by dropping the clutch and going for it. after getting it back to the shed and jacking it up again i realised that the diff wasnt bolted in and was just resting on the crossmember back there. so everytime i took off it would lift up and slam on the crossmember. anyway enough of the storys and onto the build.

will put the rest of the pics up in another post another day.

ENJOY!!!!!!

yes it should be a unique build, usually only done in ae86's and a couple ke70's hav been done. but no panel vans yet haha. and yes victoria trailor lol. company must be aus wide so doesnt matter if its not taken back to the place u hired it from

what was wrong to the s200 to strip it of everything if it still works
doesnt look smashed?

haveparty
05-10-11, 08:59 PM
It had a dodgy repair on the left rear quarter panel and has started to rust where they welded it on but would take fuck all to fix lol. So they stripped it all and now I own it haha. They did how ever grind the chassis number off so I couldn't fix it and register it. Would make an awesome modern day hot rod or hill climber.

back to the build,
so anyways. one night i got stuck into getting the engine out of the panel van

http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd503/haveaparty1/ae71%20f20c/IMG_0600.jpg
http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd503/haveaparty1/ae71%20f20c/IMG_0603.jpg

http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd503/haveaparty1/ae71%20f20c/IMG_0608.jpg

then after taking the s2000 for a another drive, but this time with everything bolted up, i got into taking the engine out.
this wasnt an easy job

so after a couple days of trying to take the engine out the top and struggling like a mofo

http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd503/haveaparty1/ae71%20f20c/IMG_0620.jpg

i worked out that this was the only way to do it, took me about an hour to get it up out and sub frame back in

http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd503/haveaparty1/ae71%20f20c/IMG_0621.jpg
http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd503/haveaparty1/ae71%20f20c/IMG_0622.jpg

so engine was now out and rolling around on a frame

so another week or so passed and i got into taking the heater core out of the 71

http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd503/haveaparty1/ae71%20f20c/IMG_0644.jpg

that night i took tghe crossmember out and steering rack and put the engine in and held it up with the crane

http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd503/haveaparty1/ae71%20f20c/IMG_0711.jpg

cut the cross member up to clear the sump as all the other build threads says so, later found i didnt hav to cut out so much
http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd503/haveaparty1/ae71%20f20c/IMG_0715.jpg
http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd503/haveaparty1/ae71%20f20c/IMG_0728.jpg

http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd503/haveaparty1/ae71%20f20c/IMG_0730.jpg

then i spent the next couple weeks working out how i was going to mount the engine to the crossmember. one day while staring at the 4ac for a while i realised i could use the left hand engine bracket cut up and welded it to the crossmember, which worked out well cause i had another bracket at home.

obviously to big at the moment

im glad everyone here likes the idea, ive had a couple haters. but haters can hate haha.

with the rust, will be new bonnet, taking the rear panels out and replacing with glass, then that leaves the tiny bit in the tail gate and ill grind it out and weld a bit of plate in there.

it will stay slanty front for the time being but will be goin quad lights wen i can afford it.

06-10-11, 01:54 PM
ok. so after puting the donk in and out a couple times i finally found where the mounts needed to go. because i used the left hand engine bracket of the 4ac the mount are the exact same and not the exact opposite, and thats y they sit off center to each other on the cross member

lifted the car up and rolled the engine underneith. got it sitting in positon and bolted it up with 2 inch spacers, these are neccesary at the moment so the engine can sit level

it had a dodgy repair done before. some noob replaced the left rear quater panel and the welds hav started to rust along the door jam and in the boot area. car was still very drivable and would of been beter off fixing it then selling it to me for such a low price. someone should by the bare shell off me and turn it into a track hack

nice, good to see you chose one of the highest hp per litre a the time f20c aww yeeeeaa

haveparty
28-11-11, 11:59 PM
Lol yeah. F20c is the quickest na 2 liter motor thats in a car worth less then 100 grand. It was the sr16 in the jap pulsar and I think the only other car that is quicker for a na 2 liter is a firrari. But it'd worth mote then 100 g so falls into a different category.

Cheers guys. Started running wires today. Got all that standard Rolla stuff in and started running the engine loom.

haveparty
15-07-12, 08:42 PM
I started mocking up the dash loom to run power to ecu and dash. Could get past the immobilizer. So I thought I would try plug in some other Honda looms I had to see wat would happen.

So started with this
http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd503/haveaparty1/bbbe7d34.jpg

That was a fail so did some research and turns out the immobilizer can be removed from the ecu
Won't say what chip I removed but ecu looks like this now
http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd503/haveaparty1/4c5b9734.jpg

Then at about 10 Friday night I stared stripping the loom back to just the bare essentials
http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd503/haveaparty1/59f8823d.jpg

At about 3am I ended up with this
http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd503/haveaparty1/e93409d6.jpg

Wired everything in today. Couldn't get the dash to work and figured I fucked something. So studied the pinouts one more time to be sure and found I missed a ignition 12v wire.

Then this happened, followed by a little bit of froth

Car isn't far of from being driven. A mate has my headers and modifying them. Then he will come measure for my tailshaft and weld the 2 I have together. Full service and it will come out in it own power hopefully. Then all there is to do is get the rest of the exhaust done.

Oh. And the reason it wouldn't start was because I wasn't running my o2 and the plugs where fouled

Bit of a photo dump

Car lowered. Not official how it will stay. Only got one leaf in the back. Just had to slam it for when I get the tail shaft measured.

Just need the headers finished of which are being done now. And then same dude can come measure for tail shaft. Then can take it for a soon round the block after a service.

Woah. Kinda forgot I had a build thread on here lol. Not a huge update from the last really. G series hilux diff is fitted and tailshaft has been made. Engine in currently out of the car atm as I'm painting the engine bay properly. Smoothed out a couple areas and all etched up as I went completely back to bare metal. Will paint on the weekend if I find the time.

Hey guys. Only real update is that the engine bay has been painted. Still yet to fit anything back together. Got to give the engine and gearbox a bit of a tidy up and paint the crossmember properly. May also make another gearbox crossmember now that my welder has been fixed.

Ultimate shagging wagon. I suggest shag pile carpet in red, purple or rainbow with a vintage metallic blue/green.

haveparty
25-07-13, 07:51 AM
Haha. There will be no shag pile thank you very much. Car will stay white and a mattress cut to shape put in the back lol. Only if I had any girls for the 'shaggin' part lol.

Finally some progress on this. Only small but still pprogress.
Cleaned up the master cylinders. Bit of black and ali paint to make them look new again

http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd503/haveaparty1/null_zps0c165bb3.jpg

Fitted up brake and clutch stuff.
http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd503/haveaparty1/null_zpsf502b284.jpg

Cleaned up the engine with some ali cleaner.

http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd503/haveaparty1/null_zps904e097a.jpg

And cleaned up and painted the engine crossmember
http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd503/haveaparty1/null_zps6ae3ddf8.jpg

Before I fit the engine in I wanna wrap the exhaust with some wrap. I can't get the headers off with out scratching everything once the engine is fitted.

instead of wrap you should look at having them ceramic coated, ive found wrap can hold water and make them rust up

or ceramic coat and wrap

I only want to wrap them so it hides all the ugly bits on the headers. One day I want to get some fancy manifold made and will get that ceramic coated.

If u look back a few pages u will see that i had the engine already running. Never driven it but the engine fires fine. There may even be a video on this thread somewhere.
