Got the yellow car back on the road after a few weeks of mods and finally took some happy snaps -

This one does float a few jdm boats with a bride zodia seat, defi gauges and arquay exhaust. I'd like to get some more aggressive wheels but choice is limited.

Mods to date -

Arquay Exhaust
SSC rear panel delete
SSC cel elimator
SSC extended rear diffuser
Team Dynamics wheels
Ohlins coilovers w remote resovoirs
Dunlop Star Specs
Yellow calipers
Exige side scoops
RLS side scoop brackets
Elise parts stone protectors
Meshed front clam
Front splitter
clear indicator bulbs
Sector 111 harness bar
Bride zodia seat and rail
Defi oil press/temp gauges in a/c vent
Interior carpets
Suede console door trims
Eclipse speakers
and a few other things that i can't remember

No big plans for this one, just keep it as is and enjoy it. My previous red car got well...out of hand lets say :)

Oh and the arquay exhaust sounds like the end of the world at high rpm yeehaaa!

Where did you source the Ohlins from??

Got them from America, you can try getting second hand from a member on lotus talk or drop blackwatchracing.com an email.
If you going to get ohlins make sure you get the right spring rates to suit your application.
Mine are around 450 from memory which is a great middle ground for a mostly street driven car, my red car ( track car ) had 650 and it was faaaarken hard.

The standard 1zz which is plenty good, i've driven the 2zz n/a and s/c versions and they're all same same, it's the honda cars or the after market s/c cars that really rock your world.

Did you end up selling the red one?

Yep, it's gone to a better place and it is basically full time sprint/hillclimb car now

The coilovers in this yellow car are sweet, rides the bumps great not harsh at all ( for a lotus ) and performance is hugely improved over the standard pos bilsteins. Exige cup cars run the same ohlins coilovers but with different spring rates.

whats under the hood!?

As above, the big block 1zz :)

I never realised these models still used the 1zz, thought they all had the 2zz... I guess i shouldnt pass off my little 1zz so quickly then if lotus manages to make something good out of it.

The lotus 1zz isn't exactly a powerhouse but in an 800kg it doesn't have to be, there's plenty of s/c options though if you really desire more powaaaaaaaa.

Lotus will definitely be my next car. Just having a hard time deciding between Elise or Exige.

Love what you have done with your one. I remember seeing your red one for sale a while back, I prefer the subtle touches on this yellow one !

Just out of curiosity which interior do you prefer ? I do like the LOOK of the updated interior as it is more symmetrical with the centre A/C vents but the older interior has a nice old school charm to it.

No big plans for this car - just drive it and enjoy! I spent so much time and money on the last lotus that i really got lost in the restoration and didn't enjoy the car.

I'll add a hardtop and go for some different wheels with this one but thats it.

My only plan is to compete a full season in time attack for fun.

I liked the older interior for a race orientated car without airbag worries etc but for a weekender the new interior is much, much nicer and doesn't fall to pieces when you go over a bump.

The older style requires complete removal and reinstallation to fix the quality and fitment issues - but that's lotus :)

If you're looking at a pre 2006/07 elise though there are much bigger differences than just the dash - motor/gearbox and particularly brakes are all very different.

If you're into making it any more JDM, try TRIAL Osaka:

Not adjustable i'm afraid and my knees hit the wheel too, is par for the course for anyone over 5 foot tall. On a positive note there's an amazing amount of headroom in an elise.

I'm driving mine to work each day whilst my daily driver is in the shop and man does the fun wear off quick - bride seat + shit a/c + suit = fubar

So whats the deal with Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious ... I have heard it, but its a toyota engine and the only gripes i have heard from people is the interior falls apart. Do they really have issues or are they fairly reliable as the toyota engine would suggest? Id like to hear it from a lotus owner rather than haters.

This is my fourth lotus Elise and of the four one was a bog stock rover 1.8 the next a Toyota engined car the next a very modified Vvc rover 1.8 pushing 170+ hp and now another Toyota. I have never had an engine issue or significant mechanical issue ever on any car. My cars were always exceptionally well maintained. The old acronym is exactly that - old. A post 2004 Elise would be one of the most economical cars to own and run full stop. Just buy one but make sure it's the right one :)
