Hi guys I just sold my evo 8 MR which was a heart-breaking sale as the car was like brand new. Owell time to move on so I decided to go back to raw RWD turbo, which came to this S15 I bought.

Specs:

2000 200sx S15 with 58000kms.

Full stock under the bonnet with only turbo back exhaust.

Plan:
I have purchased a HKS GT-RS turbo and other supporting mods such as, tomei fuel pump, 740cc injectors, greddy LS front mount, Z32 afm, apexi intake apexi AVC-R and power fc. Taking the car in next week for installation and a tune. So stay tuned :)

Sounds like the tried and true method of modding a S15. Going to get Vertex aero along with that?

MMM no not really. I have thought about it but as you know, when i had my 34 gtr, it was a pain in the arse to get over speed humps and driveways. Just want to keep this 1 clean n simple. Regarding to my modding, I want to keep it kind of low profile under the hood with low mount turbo, nismo straight in injectors etc.. Also GT-RS has great response and that would be good for a street car :)

looks good man, great platform to build a unique car. Going to put a wing on it?

I remember seeing this on Car Sales, very clean and well maintained S15.Just be carefull with the gearbox with the GT-RS upgrade, its the weakest link in the S15 drive train.

If you need advice from Silvia enthusiasts, then the guys at NSCC can guide you in the right direction.

Thanks for the heads up. I am a lil worried about the gearbox too. Good thing is I don't really plan to drift or drag, just to build a decent weekend car with decent power. Also I will retain the factory dual mass flywheel and hopefully that will ease the torque goin to the gearbox too.

Thanks for the comments guys! Car is going to the workshop tomorrow for bolting on the GT-RS and all other supporting mods. Should get it back by friday all done and tuned. 1 thing I'd like to ask some of you, since i had no intention of rev limiter up seeing that i will still retain the stock cams and that, is it still needed to put rocker arm stopper at this stage? From my knowledge, rocker arms break more due to rpm above factory rev limiter rather than boost or power. Thanks!

They usually pop off from limiter bashing. They're more of a safety net than anything, but they're worth it, and it's not that hard to put them in. To be honest I wouldn't bother throwing the GT-RS on unless you were doing cams along with it anyway. The stock cams will choke it, you won't see the full potential out of the turbo.

As Sam said, cams will improve your mid to high range power and response. You will lose a little response in the bottom revs, but hey, who drives a S15 around at 2.5K to 3K.

If you keep to below the factory rev limit which I think is 7.2K then you lessen the chance of rocker arm damage. Stoppers offer some insurance but I know of two cars that have popped rockers with stoppers fitted.

pon cams are so cheap, don't require springs and are a great match for a GTRS... make it happen

MMM I will look into it :) 1st of all, I will get it tuned and see how I go with dead stock engine from top to bottom and will post up the dyno paper when I get it back. But I will definately do cams in the short future :)

hehe thanks guys. Wasn't so sure about the red at 1st but now i think i made the right choice because I really like the colour. Took the car to the workshop today to bolt all the mods on and to get it tuned with power fc. Should get it back by friday. I will take some photos at the workshop tomorrow :)

Who's doing the tune?

SupraWei
06-11-11, 07:31 PM
Hi guys finally got the car back from my mechanic. All mods are on and tuned. It made [email protected] with 11.7:1 a/f :) We tuned the car to 20psi safely and made sure a/f is solid and absolutely no detonation but since it is an sr20, I wanted a bit more insurance so we dropped the boost down to 18psi and retarted the ignition timing a little, which actually made the boost curve flatter. And that is with stock cams, stock exhaust manifold and barely any advanced timing. Rev limiter is set at 7100rpm which is where redline starts. Went for a long drive last night and the car punches hard all the way to the top so I am pretty happy with my setup. I will post up the photo of the engine bay and dyno paper tomorrow :)

Here's photos of the engine bay with mods which i think it looks pretty near stock :)

Stock coil (they were as clean as brand new), stock manifold with factory heat shield. Can't go wrong with stock parts :D

engine bay looks good everything looks factory. better cover that pod filter before you get done.

SamB87
07-11-11, 10:34 AM
Cover the pod, paint the cooler pipe black, ditch the coloured silicone joiners for black ones, and ditch the blue vacuum hose for black stuff as well. Then I'll think it looks moderately stock.

SupraWei

D STIG - I am looking for a genuine apexi aluminium airbox which bolts straight on also was designed for this apexi intake kit.

Sam - Yeah I was thinking of paint the intercooler pipe and the cooler itself black and all then I really cbf LOL

I got a tomei extended oil pan, trust oil cooler kit coming. Pretty happy with the power so I will just settle for power mods and start enhancing the reliability.

Like wise, it was nice to see a very clean and well maintained S15, 11 years after it was built. I could see you're very happy at finding one in such great condition.

Yeah and also aus spec s15s are lot rarer than jap spec in jdm scene too. Anyway I look forward to seeing your 200sx at next meet :)

Hi guys I have a question here. I went for a drive tonight and it was wet so I gave it a hit in 1st n 2nd on high boost setting, which never had any issue in the dry in terms of knock value always being below 20 all the way to the top on full load. However in the wet tonight, when the car was full getting wheelspin in 2nd gear at full boost and the engine light blinked a couple of times between 6-7000rpm so i backed off and saw the peak knock went upto 62. So now i dont understand is the knock was never over 20 on full load in the dry, how come it jumped to 62 for a sec when it had full wheelspin in the wet?? the high boost setting i use was tune to a/f of 11.8 : 1 which i believe it is pretty damn safe...Please give me some ideas thanks,
