Got some numberplate LED's last weekend, thought they would look ghey, but they're not bad IMO:

I am no professional photographer, which is quite evident, so apologies for the quality of some of the images many of which are of iPhone standard.

I'll add new pics to this thread as mods eventually happen, and I hope to meet some of you JDMST'ers soon.

I'm sure I've forgotten some stuff, so will be editing as need be.

Thanks for reading, looking forward to gaining your thoughts guys.

Cheers - Chris (Boss4g)

Just go to a decent coilover setup imo, springs and shocks are becoming a bit redundant with quality coilovers becoming so cheap nowadays, plus you get the added adjustablity of them! Seen so many people get springs then upgrade again to coils which ends up costing them more.

Otherwise, nice car!!! Love the wheels!

boss4g
24-11-11, 12:33 PM
Cheers mate!! Thanks for your response.

Hmm yeah i've tossed up coilovers a few times, your right I don't see the sense in double handling mods, but for everyday street driving and the amount of track work that i'm planning to do initially, Meek suggest that rebuilt stock coils will be sufficient and i tend to agree.

They also have a trade/rebuild scheme which works out well for everyone.

EVO 6.5 was the only car I ever owned which had fantastic stock suspension for both street and track, so perfect I never even thought about modifying!

boss4g
24-11-11, 01:04 PM
My front left shock has sagged a bit hence the need for a rebuild, otherwise yeah, I've been more than happy with the performance of the standard set-up!

Yeah not bad Nath! They're pretty damn bright, lol.

I need to adjust the beams which i will do tonight, so i'll grab some pics and upload them tomorrow.

In the meantime, here's a quick photo dump of me cleaning up the engine bay over the weekend. Came up quite nice, IMO.

Sorry, i don't know how to resize the images...:

When i eventually get around to adjusting them, i'll post a pic of the beam on the wall.

I've been advised that when you're adjusting the beam, the rule is 30m back from the wall, 15 towards the ground - Can someone please confirm this is correct?

Which kit did you go mate?? I might order tonight in hope they get here by Friday lol

boss4g

This one: http://www.hidlighting.com.au/HID_Conversion_Kits/HID_Conversion_Kits.html - "Professional Grade HID Kit"

I called him late Thursday, and he had it ready for me for Saturday morning, so i would say that's achievable lol!

So... i'm quietly annoyed today.

I asked one of my mates to remove a sticker i had on my front fender, he took a fair amount of clear coat off with it...:evil::evil:

I would be grateful if someone could point me in the right direction of a good, fairly priced smash repairs/painter in Sydney...

It's a shame i'm so damn lazy, hah..

UPDATE:

Went out to IS Motorsports in Rockdale on Saturday for a power run with Indy.

Pulled a mildly disappointing 174.1awkw @ 7000rpm.

http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa374/boss4g/EvoDynoRuns001.jpg

Indy told me the car is running very lean, and needed a better fuel pump, so I've ordered a new Walbro 255L fuel pump from VisionR which is coming this week.

Next Monday (19th Dec), i've taken leave and booked myself in at Meek to rebuild front struts, install new fuel pump and get hotside pipe installed. Fingers crossed the fuel pump arrives from Perth before Friday...

http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa374/boss4g/EvoDynoRuns002.jpg

Some runs that Damien (evo9mr), from EvoOz took for me:

Good power output.. You'll feel the difference once you've add the hotside... The turbo spool will come on earlier (around 2-300rpm earlier)

Also, you might aswell ask Indy/or his team to install the stuff for you, then tune.. Do everything at one place..

boss4g
15-12-11, 09:01 PM
Great thanks. I can't wait to see the difference!

Yeah I always go to Chris and Damo at Meek, only went out to IS for a power run cause Meek do street tunes therefore don't have a dyno.

UPDATE:

Went to Meek on Monday, and got the following maintenance and performance mods to enjoy for the holidays. Will hook up some photos soon:

MEEK Hotside Pipe
MEEK Suction Kit
WALBRO GSS-342 Fuel Pump + Filter
Oil Change/Filter 10w50
Turbosmart 52mm, 30psi Boost Gauge
Turbosmart 52mm Gauge Holder Cup

Because of the absolutely shite weather Sydney has been having lately, i've only gotten the chance to drive her properly once... But WOW...

The power gains achieved from these mods are really noticeable, and the car is much smoother and more pleasant to drive as a daily because of the Walbro and fuel filter change.

NOTE: wastegate flap is not closing properly, (rattles allot), further power gains should be expected once fixed. Reaching full boost at only 16ish psi with the wastegate how it is.

Nice list of mods mate much similar to mine :)

Bet your loving the responsiveness after doing the lower cooler pipe, gains are noticeable.

I'm tossing up if I should do the upper cooler pipe... they say 5-10kw increase in doing so. Might buy one in the next week or two.

Thanks allot. Welcome the the forum as well.

Mate i believe there's no-one better if you own an evo. They can do a thorough inspection, and give you a print out if you want, (would have been better to get it inspected pre-sale.. live and learn!)

Chris is always available to provide advice and the Meek workshop is unlike most i have been to in terms of transparency.

When you take your car there, they let you watch everything they do, and they're always teaching you new things about your car.

I always leave Meek with more evo knowledge than when i arrived, lol.

Yeh I was keen but gotta work early tmoz. Going on the evo oz one on the 15th. I try to space the meets out, get over driving to syd all the time.

Flap on the front of the wastegate wasn't closing properly, therefore only hitting around 15 pounds with boost creep.

Yeah it's a bit of a trek hey.. Going to see if everyone's interested in a cruise on Sat down some twisties, if you're keen for that. Should be fun.

Nah not yet bro.. if i'm going to do it, and it's a big IF, i'd want to go some ultra stiff Eibach springs, and cause of the fitment I'd need to run heaps more neg camber at the front.

Might be on the cards! ...but got more pressing priorities at present :)

LiNkStA
01-02-12, 02:29 PM
Well if you come down my way again i might be in. Gotta practise on Sat though. Got some tournies coming up.

I wouldnt know which spring rates suit on a cp9a. Not much of a suspension guru. Looked on evo oz quickly and couldnt find anythnig either. Andrew seems to have a good setup. What spring rates are you running Andrew?

Thanks for researching for me Linc. Andrew keen to gain your thoughts!

Lol yeah i know, need to bring everyone to our area, cop presence isn't as intense on the north side as well.

I'll keep you posted though! Might try organise something for the weekend. Cruise down McCarrs creek to Pittwater or something maybe?

Re: actuator, was basically the first mod i did. Mine was so rusted, it was freeboosting...

It's a Ralliart 1.5bar.

Sounds good, I struggle to make most meets but lol, eomm are easy cause normally there is heaps of notice, but working 6 days a week, normally Sundays are reserved for the girlfreind haha

Just posted one on the FB page. Check it out.

I didn't go to the EOMM last Wed, thought Ikea was going to get flooded by cops and heaps didn't feel like getting defected. Did you go?

Apparently it was quite hassle free, and a good evening.

LOL - Guess I'm lucky that my girl loves meets and cruises.. She has just as much fun as me!

Come for the drive! Good bunch of people, should be a good day.

Thanks for researching for me Linc. Andrew keen to gain your thoughts!

I'm running 325 pound progressive rate springs at the front (6 kilo) & 230 pound progressive rate springs at the rear (4 kilo)
My Koni's are dampening adjustable (They are strut set up not coilover)
These are an awesome set up & are great for street & track use.
(I will be trilling Eibach's with the same spring rate as the kings to see the difference very soon.
Kings are manufactured using heat binding process , Eibach's are manufactured using cold binding process)

I also have some Tein Gr Gravel Tech Strut coilovers height & dampening Adjustable as well
These are 7 kilo fronts & 5 kilo rears. These are great as well

Great - i appreciate the info Andrew. The Tein Gravels look like they're a good allrounder.

I reckon 7kg's on the front should be sufficient to eliminate the chance of tyre rubbing with the drop and neg camber.

I think the kings are better choice for you Chris + they are a great price for the set.
Good alround spring.
The GR Teins are about $4500- $5000 new. I don't think they are available anymore.

boss4g
06-02-12, 11:25 AM
DAMN that's out of my price range.

If i were to get serious about suspension i'd look into getting a full set of coilies as opposed to just the springs.

Will speak with you when this time comes around regarding my options. Does your shop ever stock/source rebuilt coilies?

Cheers again.

That would have been 90's pricing or something, for 5k you could get yourself a set of Ohlins easy.

Not sure if it was this thread or anther evo but personally I wouldnt bother with shock/spring combos, you can get quality coilovers fairly cheap nowadays, the adjustability alone is worth it.
Also if you're after coilovers for cheaper, source them through www.jessestreeter.com , he imports from japan to aus, awesome pricing!

Interesting... Yeah it was this thread, coilovers were completely out of the question then, but i'm slowly warming to the idea...

As mentioned i don't like doing stuff "on the cheap" with my car, so would prefer to go full coilies... but 3-5k just for suspension would break the bank.

Cheers for the contacts. I'll eck them out.

For my Tein SuperStreet Coilovers they were 2.2K including the shipping from Japan. They are Height and camber adjustable... even tho they are a tad too firm for the quality australian roads IMO they are well worth it

+1 for coilovers
recomend BC golds for street coils, know plenty of people running BC's who happily vouch for them and have been running them for 5 years++ on street and track with not a single problem
they are also quite alot cheaper than teins, and come with an australian warranty

, if you want used quality teins theres these on egay, its only the monoflex type which im sure would be more than enough for a streeter

You guys are rad. Thanks heaps for all the info, appreciate the advice and research and it will all be taken on board.

As much as i would like to get coilovers asap, i do have larger priorities, (i.e insurance due in a month..., moving out of home :D ). No real point in making enquiries at the moment, this will be happening when i get my tax back in a few months time.

Updates?... Haha what you got planned next?

boss4g
16-07-12, 10:52 AM
Haha! It's sure been a while.

Updates: Picked up 3 E8 rims and some near new KU36's for a steal recently from up the coast, the guy crashed his E5 into a gutter in the wet, writing off one rim - but 3 are like new.

It's time for another all oils change - got my AYC serviced last weekend - no more squawking :D

Other than general maintenance, pending on how generous my tax return is this year - next mod is coilies, lowered, guards rolled, and camber all round

Nathg
16-07-12, 02:14 PM
You can't roll the gaurds lol. You will need to trim the rear gaurds, but shouldn't have too many problems depending on how low you go

boss4g
20-07-12, 10:39 AM
You can roll the fronts, but obviously you can't roll plastic on the rears lol.

I chucked some BC coilovers on mine at Meek the other week, car is like a go kart now :D

They are stiff even on the softest setting but not too bad, you get used to it. I'm running around 22 clicks from soft, my fav setting so far.

Don't go too low on the rear, add some camber around 1.5 degrees you should clear the plastic flares. I'm running 17x8.5 +30 offset with 245/45 tyres and it's good with this setup.

Nathg
21-07-12, 03:24 PM
I wish I had bc's :( mine isn't that low, 235 on a 8.5 wide rim, -2 camber and I still scrub on big bumps

SeRkZ
21-07-12, 05:36 PM
Nath your scrubbing the inside of the wheel arch yeah? Mine does too every so often... but not as bad since I didn't lower it that much, it's sitting about an inch above the tyre now.

Nathg
21-07-12, 05:51 PM
Yeah the metal lip underneath the plastic. I'll eventually get around to cutting it, I love the way it sits now, so don't wanna raise it lol

It can be done, but carefully. I was speaking to Nelson @ Sydney guard rolling, he's done a couple of E5's before.

I'll just trim the rears carefully myself if needs be.

That's mad, i can't wait.

I'm running 17x9.0 +25, with 235/45 tyres and 15mm spacers.

I need to get quite stiff springs and will need to max out the camber, but not planning on going too low because she's still my daily.

What spring rates do you reckon would be best Serkan?

Nice car buddy :)

Thanks mate! :) Had a quick look at your coupe on evocoupe.net the other day... Nicely done.
