Hey people I've been lurkin around this forum for far too long now, so I thought I'd submit!

I have a long list of things/mods I need/want to do on the car, so far I have cleaned it up HEAPS and gave it a much needed wash and wax. A few things I have done so far are, new muffler, solved a boot leak, fixed the boot release cable, new Xenon bulbs, made a new boot board, fixed the high brake light, got a new shoft boot made up and started to recondition the front lip.

Anyways this is it

The directional tyre is on the back because I need a new one :s

Cheers mate! Yeah, quite a few actually. Mods and things that need doing haha uh short shifter, new tyre, cv boot, gear knob, either lowering springs or coilovers, LED side lights, fix a oil leak and I like the other style of grill for the n15 much more than this one. Like below

Long time no update, money is tight and starting uni soon :3 stoked!

Anyways, I got a great deal on 2 MA Audio 6x9s, 2 Kenwood tweeters, and 2 Earthquake 4" speakers.

I got rid of the terrible chinese speakers in the parcel tray...

Moved the Sony Xplod speakers from the doors to the parcel tray

Put the 4" earthquake speakers in the doors. Yes, the cable tie is temporary haha

Last thing to do is wire the tweeters....which I have no idea how to do haha

The whole thing is a vast improvement over the previous set up. With the Headunit EQ tuned correctly it actually sounds like a small sub but with out the number plate rattling bass :D

Also, hired a rug doctor with some mates and went to town on the upholstery (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNMAmhGrxR8) it has made a huge difference, the seats feel softer and the ciggarette smell has all but gone! Especially if you have lighter coloured fabric. I would highly reccomend this for removing those funky smells in your ride ;)

Small update...

So I got sick of the acid rain stain dried up whoknowswhat on my mirrors and front window. I got some of this stuff

http://i.imgur.com/njCZ9.jpg

And went to town on the mirrors

http://i.imgur.com/JNlKR.jpg

To this

http://i.imgur.com/tCcoA.jpg

It didn't take too long but I would reccomend taking the mirror out because it does take some elbow grease, you have to push quite hard. Especially for the windscreen. Definitely worth it tho!

Also, while I was poking around and cleaning I found I have this!

http://i.imgur.com/6lMtt.jpg

Any ideas what it is? Flare holder? It looks too small for a fire extenguisher.

I bought a barely used K&N Pod and breather filter and a 'recharge kit'/oil and cleaner for a mint price! That should be arriving soon, then I'll get a heat shield made up

It's a flare holder, mine came with the same holder including the flare from japan.
Pretty sure I've heard its a standard thing on jap cars in japan.

Small update. Installed the Pod and it makes the VVL change over sounds SO good :D

Dad got a K&N panel filter for his 2002 MX5 right before a track day and noticed a decent power increase. I stole the sticker for extra kw's ;)

http://i.imgur.com/RZBPw.jpg?1

I finally bought a short shifter, unbranded but feels really nice. Being all metal it makes the gears feel much more precise and defined. Old one is below.

http://i.imgur.com/mqE0T.jpg

I was given this Momo knob from a mate, second hand but nice and heavy!

http://i.imgur.com/HECfV.jpg?1

Got my hands on of these. Not removing the deeper scratches but makes the shine shiny-er for sure

http://i.imgur.com/suc18.jpg?1

Day after waxing :D

http://i.imgur.com/SNZ7H.jpg

My mates CL1 Accord was missing a din pocket so he got the standard double din pocket with door and gave me this one. It's not a perfect fit and needs a clean up but overall gives a neater look to the centre console

http://i.imgur.com/jrxe9.jpg?1

Not car related, well kind of, got one of these bad boyz and cant wait to light up the Pulsar with it!

I havent actually seen a VZR sedan before. They look the goods though. This is an SR16VE for those wondering

blue rocker cover = 1.6

black rocker cover = 2.0

red rocker cover = 1.6 N1

Whats the future plans for it? DE crank? N1 cams and NisTune? :P

QuickShift
28-06-12, 02:00 PM
Yeah! They're quite a rarity which is what I like about it :D

Haha being my first car and being a poor uni student probably not a lot but you never know ;) what's the advantages of a DE crank? N1 cams and a tune would be amazing :o

Super jealous of how clean your VZR is btw

Timmy
28-06-12, 03:22 PM
DE crank makes it a 2L, with about 12.5:1 compression. With N1 cams 2.5" exhaust and a tune they make close to 200hp (150kw) atw.

Lol mine isnt a VZR, its a SSS Pulsar, looks like a VZR from the front though. I put the SR20VE engine in mine though :p

Long time no update due to Uni and $$. Ticked a few things off the list since last update

Got the wheels repainted in a flat/satin black type thing by a mates dad who's a panel beater. Turned out really wheel (ahem) for a expensive rattle can!

Before:

http://i.imgur.com/RztjT.jpg

After:

http://i.imgur.com/qQXwc.jpg

Had some left over so went over some trim pieces, sills, door handles, wipers etc. Looks heaps better.

http://i.imgur.com/ZwoBJ.jpg

In my keen-ness to have a pod filter I completely forgot about mounting the pod securely so it moved around when driving etc and this happened. It's split about 60% of the way around so after having no luck finding a OEM pipe I've come to the solution of using a piece of aluminum pipe (for the rice points) and finding someone to weld on smaller pipes for the breather and idle.

http://i.imgur.com/5ly15.jpg

I took out the flexi-pipe thing from the front bar (looked a bit burnt rice imo haha) and added some sunny's to try cover up the lack of fogs :C have any of you pulsar boys used other Nissan fogs? Skylines, silvias etc

Yeah! That's been the plan for a while but it's hard to find someone who can weld it the smaller pipes on for the rocker cover breather and idle valve. Your intake is wicked! I'm thinking of using the stock air box still with a couple of joiners from the throttle to the pipe then pipe to AFM etc. Could still use a pod from there actually....

Long ass time since the last update. I got contract work at the start of the year for some decent cash so went on the search for some lowering springs. As coilovers for a N15 in NZ are damn near impossible to find and on top of the high price you must have certification to make them legal, certification costs $400 +.

So lowering springs I went!

http://i.imgur.com/nSlUdip.jpg

Kidding...I got these for 120 ish NZ. So stoked.

http://i.imgur.com/RDFhLqJ.jpg

And installed

http://i.imgur.com/P3jjJOM.jpg?2

For comparison

http://i.imgur.com/TeMW3.jpg

Overall it is a tougher/bumpy ride but in the corners and 'spirited driving' it feels so much nicer. Also looks damn good haha

My grill (although I don't like it too much, prefer a Lucino) was lacking in the paint department.

http://i.imgur.com/gUDXgdA.jpg?1

http://i.imgur.com/ZE6MKSc.jpg?1

http://i.imgur.com/Gd6azwM.jpg?1

I was sick of having holes in my bumpers and no fogs. And to find VZR fogs in NZ is also damn near impossible I went for S14 PFL fogs which I got for $40 with one blown bulb. I have the wiring for fogs already so it was as easy as a little bumper modification and plugging them in. The s14 and pulsar have the same plugs!

And finally for this post, my mates dad is a panel beater so he brought home the pro polish and machine so we went to town his two cars and mine. Turned out really well I think.

Below are links to my photo's of the the Mighty Car Mods event, the D1NZ last year and Automania :) enjoy

Personally I love the VZ-R sedans. What are your plans for it?

Yeah same here man! Um there's a few little things that I want to buy/change in the future like a lucino grill, repair the VZR lip, axle back exhaust and wheels but overall keep it as a sensible clean example of a rare car

QuickShift
25-01-14, 02:09 PM
Sporadic updates are us dot com. Uni, getting an internship, lack of money and Christmas has taken all my time! So since the last update I have bought a new muffler, bought VZ-R shims, bought urethane engine mounts, bought two pre-facelift headlights and snapped a bolt or two!
In the process of changing my brake pads a while back I discarded the shims thinking they weren't necessary, oh how I was wrong. The squealing drove me batshit crazy. No pun intended. So I searched and searched for someone wrecking a VZ-R/GTi-R that still had the shims available and finally found some! Bought them and have so far installed the front ones which have made a huge difference in braking noise. I haven't had time around Uni to install the rear ones yet. That and the rear piston is a bitch to compress.
Bought a $40 exhaust off Trademe that I hoped would be quieter than the current no-name one, in a way it is but not what I'm after. I was happy with it for a while however. Cleaned it all up and it turned out to be a Jasma Tanabe RS axle back system off a Vitz/Yaris!
http://i.imgur.com/eVx8RbN.jpg?1

http://i.imgur.com/QZpmEW6.jpg?1

After that I failed my WOF on two broken engine mounts, cracked headlight and a bulb. After doing a fair amount of research, the options were to fill my old mounts with window weld, buy new OEM mounts, buy second hand mounts or buy urethane mounts. New OEM was $180~ for two mounts! I couldn't find second hand ones so urethane it is! (I didn't really want to wait for window weld to set). I got all 4 urethane mounts for $175 from the NZ Pulsar Primera forums :D

http://i.imgur.com/vnDJYAj.jpg?1
^ Not my crossmember
So in they went, and just my luck a [email protected]#%#@$%ing bolt snapped. One of the front cross member bolts appeared to be bent toward the engine somehow, possibly cross threaded? Anyway, went through many drill bits and crap EZ outs but no luck. Also couldn't get the rear engine mount bolt lined up to thread it in properly so off it went to the shop with three urethane and one oem mount. Came back with all 4 urethane mounts installed.
Next up was the headlight. One was cracked which was never a problem for my usual mechanic. Oh well. Bought two pre-facelift headlights, which aren't the most attractive style imo and got a WOF finally. Put the VZ-R ones back in after the WOF ;)
Next up is installing rear shims and getting another quieter muffler.
TL;DR: got brake shims, got new muffler, urethane engine mounts, swapped headlights out twice.

QuickShift
11-02-14, 01:21 PM
Since installing the shims and trying everything I could think of to stop the squeal I went out and bought some new much better quality pads, problem solved!

New pads
Having lowering springs and 40 profile tyres made for quite a rough ride especially around my area so 15 or 16 inch wheels were on the horizon. After having not much luck on the usual places with a student budget I almost gave up when a good mate was selling his RPF1 copies from his old daily! Perfect! Lightweight SSA 15x6.5 wheels pretty much brand new a tiny bit of curbing that doesn't bother me at all. 195/60/15 tyres, 3/4 pretty decent condition. They seem to be about 3kgs lighter than the 17s I had before, and much more comfortable. Possibly going to a lower profile tyre in the future for looks mainly.
