Not sure many of you know much about Sillbeer other than maybe Justin, but it's almost finished. Visually though it's complete and I've just posted up some pics of it at the Perth Autosalon this week. The blog goes all the way back to the start of the project (almost 3yrs now), so if you've got questions, try the blog search engine first.

Glad to have been able to help you out Brandan. It's an amazing project.

Good stuff.

Yeah, thanks mate. I did have to go to Japan to find a different boss kit though. The Nardi one just left too much of a gap around the steering column shroud. You should mention that back to Nardi I reckon. There was a lot of questions about the steering wheel though so I directed them your way through NS.com

And thanks to others for kind comments.

Cheers

Cheers Brandan,

I'll tell Nardi about the Boss kit for you. I'm sure you would have had many comments about the Deep Corn. You bought one of the first suede deep corns we ever imported into Australia.

Thanks.

You should see the underneath. Still a couple of spots to paint yet where the stands were.

Magnet
25-07-07, 08:10 PM
I don't mean to pick, but lose the front corner lamps/indicators/rearlights for stock ones, and get an SR boot keyhole... then it will be perfect, in my eyes anyway. That's pretty much exatly how i would have built it otherwise, top effort dude.

Harves
25-07-07, 09:55 PM
Awesome work mate :)

sillbeer
26-07-07, 11:18 AM
Magnet:
Nah, I chose those lights because I liked them and gives the car a more modern feel. As for the boot keycover, I much prefer the CA one over the SR...design wise it works a lot better in that position because there's really no other oval shapes at the back to match up with the SR boot keycover.

I remember seeing the in progress build a few years a ago. It has turned out awesome!

sillbeer

Ah ha, certainly has. Almost better than I expected...but I have high expectations.

Added some pics of the car prior to heading to Autosalon...I took them outside at dusk.

Here's a snippet from the spec sheet at the show...sort of explains a few things of why:

This Silvia is the culmination of a three year build project by its owner Brendan Underwood...taking what was originally just a shell to what you see before you.

The build philosophy was that of a factory special in the spirit of cars like Nismo’s Z-Tune...the result is the Nissan Silvia specB. A car that has a place on the track, but is also comfortable on the street without over doing it with unwarranted decorative schmultz. This is the reason for keeping the Nissan Aero body kit, but giving it more ‘body’ with the use of the Wise Sports wide body guards.

The car has been built to perform, with the engine and suspension components chosen for reliability on the track and the open road. And for those wondering whether this will be a drift weapon, the answer is no. This will be purely a grip driving vehicle with intentions of regular motorkhana and circuit outings.

Those who have not already, check out the build process to truly appreciate this car:

sillbeer

There's even a search engine on it just in case you have a question, check with that first. Most of what's been done has had a post done on it.

Just amazing Brendan!
I left a comment on the final entry I believe.
I spent 3 hours reading through the build and it was probably the most rewarding 3 hours of my life.
Cant wait to see some pics or even videos of sillbeer on the road/track.
Just a quick question, would you recommend the use of dynamat for even a lower spec stereo system? I know it helps with more than just the stereo but is it worth it? I really want a nice solid sound when I close my doors and also that secure feel you said it gave to sillbeer.

Hope the rest of the build goes well!
gotta love those guards.

Mate, that is one sweet S13!

It's a welcome change from the usual dori dori pigs and stickered-up, kitted examples you usually see.

If i was to build up an S13, it would look something along the lines of yours.
I love how you have created an overall balanced machine with the quality of a factory built special.

Very well done!

nice, what does sillbeer mean?
To quote Brendan

Some of you may have wondered where I came about this name. Well if you've ever been to the Japanese Yahoo Auctions before (a boon for used cars and parts from Japan), and subsequently used say the Google Translator service, when Silvia is listed, it is translated to 'Sill beer' or 'Sillbeer'. Here's a link to the Nissan section of Yahoo Japan Auctions:

Japanese Yahoo Auctions - Nissan

Down the left you'll see the names of the cars, some familiar, some not so, and you'll notice 'Sill beer', sitting there above Skyline. Some other interesting translations are Grolier for Gloria, Fair ready for Fairlady and Seaming Machine for Cima. Oh, and if you ever read 'minute mountains' in the text, I think it's short for millimetre.

07-01-08, 02:24 PM

Sillbeer,

I run a HKS GTRS on my S15 and use the following camshafts spec:
HKS Step 2 Camshafts 256 in 264 ex, 11.5mm Lift
HKS Valve Springs

It is very responsive 1.5 bar @ 3500rpm.

There is a lot more to response than matching camshaft spec to the turbo.

sillbeer
18-01-08, 01:19 AM
Thanks R-Tune, we've looked at everything else except maybe what compression ratio I'm currently running and the cams seem to be the logical hole in the equation. Thanks for the specs. Did you have to specify those cams or did you just order HKS Step 2's? Was there any headwork required for fitment other than the springs (already have uprated Tomei springs).

Cheers
Brendan

R-Tune
18-01-08, 01:35 AM
Lifting the compression ratio to around 9.0 to 1

You should be able to order them just specify intake/exhaust specs.

Not sure what SR you have in your S13 . But if you have S14/S15 blacktop with VCT you will not be unable to run VCT due to the extra lift.

No headwork required for fitment your Tomei valve spring should be fine.

Managed to pick up 'Best Engineered & Underbody' in the 'Late Model Performance' category at Motorvation #22 at the weekend. This is one of Perth's big modified car shows mainly oriented to more Street Machines, Hot Rods and Muscle Cars, so I was pretty happy that an Import picked this one up.
