not much to update, just got my kouki letterbox grill and resprayed the bumpers
still working on the RWD water system, diff, rear suspension, electrics, the list goes on.....

Shiri
19-08-07, 08:02 PM
The rear looks increadible... however I've never been of Kouki levin bumpers. Will you be keeping it like that or will you update it some how?

Are you gonna mould over the rivets on your wing as welL?

Otaku
19-08-07, 08:14 PM
I have just purchased some j-blood rear pods for the rear bumper, just waiting for them to arrive. I will also two-tone the bumpers.
The wing is actually not fitted yet, I will be fiberglassing the wing onto the hatch so it all looks like one piece, all those holes will be filled as well.

Shiri
19-08-07, 08:23 PM
Are you gonna do anything mirror wise?

Otaku
19-08-07, 09:00 PM
probably just use the standard ones, not a big fan of any of the aftermarket mirrors they have for the AE86

Shiri
19-08-07, 09:04 PM
If you ever look at wanting to update the tired look of those outdated mirrors, the Kouki mirrors look 10x better. They actually have lines which follow the car and have curves rather than straight cut.

Somethin to keep in mind for the future.

Your left headlight is also crooked a bit!

Sorry I'm a hard AE86 critic haha...

I can see that this'll look really good once you iron out the little things though. It seems you are more interested in fixing mechanical issues first which is defently more important. =)

Keep it up and see you at a Melbourne meet hopefully =)

Otaku
19-08-07, 09:34 PM
thanks for that, I just had a look at the kouki mirrors and I want a pair now :D
I haven't really started fitting all the exterior bits properly yet thats why nothing is lined up prefectly will do all that stuff towards the end of the project

Otaku
06-09-07, 11:10 PM
I got a friend helping me with my diff (Well his doing most of the work )

Diff is a 4.1 ratio T-series from a RA40 Celica with RA60 Celica Axles and Corona disk brakes.
I was originally gonna use a Cusco 1.5way L.S.D but decided to use a TRD 2-way L.S.D instead.
We just have to finish the new brake lines and put it all back together now.

patience
07-09-07, 05:45 PM
Build looks great! Love seeing a car restored like this.
Any word on why you chose to use the TRD 2 way instead of the Cusco 1.5way?
Are you going to be drifting the car?

Buddy
07-09-07, 09:05 PM
hahaha 5 stud hachi.. haha ive seen that car around on HR

looking good mate!! tryn make it down for the annual this year

Otaku
09-09-07, 05:27 PM
Any word on why you chose to use the TRD 2 way instead of the Cusco 1.5way?
I decided to go TRD 2 way because it fit my axles nicely, the Cusco 1.5 didnt fit that well with my axles. Also after a friend of mine drove a AE86 with a Cusco 1.5 he told me it was like a locker diff, and I didn't want that.

Are you going to be drifting the car?
I don't think I will be drifting this car...

Otaku
09-09-07, 05:28 PM
This week I took out my standard Aus spec S series diff, to make room for my T series diff which I picked up this week.
Just have to get some springs and the arms have to be modified to fit the diff into the car.

Also instead of buying JDM black/grey interior, I decided just to re-spray my current Aus spec blue interior. I was surprised how good they turned out.
All the plastic bits are sprayed black I just need to get some black seat belts, re-trim my dash, and get some front seats. I'm leaning towards maybe some DC2 Integra Type R seats.

Next thing to do on my list is to spray the under body.

oooo this is coming along nicely Otaku :)

I used Septone Vinly Spary for the door trims, which I also used for the cloth bits on the door trims as well.
For all the plastic bits I just used Septone Bumper Bar Black. But any plastic bits with a flat surface I would used K&H Bumper Bar Spray instead.

Using a factory 4-2-1 4ag RWD exhaust manifold and just get a 2 inch exhaust system made up.

Otaku

I'm not gonna be using the rims that are on the car now, but I will be using very similar ones

Here are the rims I will be using
There Albino Racing wheels, the same ones they used on the old Group A Sprinters

looking good turk :P , stock shocks in the back though??? just as well how come you have only got the upper trailing arms adjustable? is it not worth getting the lowers done?

Otaku
30-09-07, 11:37 PM
Shutup Italian :P
Yeah stock shocks for now, just to hold the diff.
Lower trailing arms don't need to be adjusted as they fit the T series fine.
Upper arms needed to be adjustable because the mount location is different on the T series.

Just a quick update

The wiring is also most complete, just have to wiring up the ignition, fuse box and fuel pump. The body loom is also back in the car.

Fuel system is also nearly complete.

Most of the interior is back in the car and I purchased a pair of Recaros from a DC5 Integra Type R, just need to get some rails for it.

Got some Tanabe-ness which includes front and rear sway bars (so light!) and a strut brace.

And I got my exhaust finally! Apexi Hybrid Megaphone, its soooo shiny!
Just need the secondaries for my exhaust manifold and my exhaust system is finished.

So not much left really....

Some pics of the sway bars and exhaust

Well it's been nearly 5 years since I've first got this car and a year since i've touched it last. After finishing my white daily AE86 I thought it was about time to get off my lazy ass and finally finish this project.

So I went to go start her up again and discovered the engine wasn't running anymore, I thought it was just old fuel so put some new fuel in and the same thing, would crank but wouldn't run.

After a few chats with a couple of my mates on what they hell was going on I went to go check all the wiring (I hate wiring!). Got the multimeter out put it on ignition, thought I try start it again and it started..... Didnt know if I should be happy or upset!?

Made a list all of the remaining things to do and relized there isnt really that much left to do. Brought all the last parts I need to complete it and now its a race to the finish line!

Keep a look out for the final updates! http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/2919/unknownti1.gif

Update?

Otaku
22-12-13, 11:19 PM
Well I figured I would give an update on the Red AE86.

After re-doing the water system I still couldn't get the engine to idle properly so just gave up for the 76th time and started focusing on the white AE86, which lead me into getting into tracks days where most of my time was being spent.

At the same time I brought fuel surge tanks for both cars but never got around to fitting them until a month ago, I fitted one on the red car and used a new external fuel pump I brought years ago but like with all things it just didnt work for some reason. So the car was back to collecting dust, after a trip to Japan I got my motivation back and fitted a new fuel pump and now she is back up and running again.

http://imageshack.us/a/img824/4452/x55d.jpg

I've also changed the whole throttle body and she is idling fine now, all that's left is to put the interior back together (again) and finally get her register. So hopefully 2014 will be the year this car is on the road.
