Awesome Coupe man.

I almost bought a one-owner cherry red w white interior one of these. It was immaculate. Came with a Melways from the year of manufacture... It was auto and bloody slow, but damn cool.

Yours also looks great!!

I have a question while we are waiting though...

Round headlights on a 55???

I thought it was the 35's that came with the round headlights?

18-02-08, 03:15 PM

sorry boys, i was napping..

.. couldnt go past the "KE55" on the title thread and not have a squize, this car is gorgeous and i cannot wait for my own to look as equally stunning!!!

GOODLUCK with the engine conversion, it is on my mind also!! fairly stressful and mind numbing at times!!

thats a mad little car!!!! Yeah go for the 4age engine!!! and put some wantanabe rims...!

I like the rims you have on it now :) people EXPECT Wantanabes on an old school beauty, but your current rims are schmick looking already! :) well done!

20-02-08, 11:06 PM
nice car

21-02-08, 02:27 PM
that used to be my 55 but upgraded to a 70, becareful using xt130 struts as they are long, u could use gh sigma lcas to give more track and camber, if u use it for street look for round 6kg, i just chopped the springs in the front of mine until i could save up and build 86 coilovers, you can also fit in 86 rear shocks so maybe look at getting some trds from ajps?

just finished adding a few cosmetics to the front..

changed over the stock lights to the new black ones with the brighter white globes ..
added front lip which was brand new from the uk and are made for mark one golf gti's.. was really suprised that it matched up so well with no cutting required and was heaps easy to install only taking a good half hour..
then the fender mirrors whic i sourced from kuala lumpa and replaced all the old bolts with new stainless steel ones.. (by the way does anyone know if these are a defect)

next up are some watanabes which are on there way and then brake and suspension upgrade, need the wheels first as these wheels are too wide :(

going rt142 front struts that will will be shortened 40mm and have coilover sleves welded on, coilover springs and short stroke shocks. The rt142s have the twin pot calipers

Monster- KE55 came with both the round head lights and on the later models the square headlights.

Anastasio - i weas the one that was asking about your engine, struts and the watanabes on rolla club....

so just an update...

out with the old...

And the new, a 5k (1.5l as opposed to the 1.3l 4k)

this is not going in yet, waiting for the engine builder to get back from holidays then it is getting fully balanced (should be good for 9,000 rpm) new cam (not sure yet on the specs have to speak to the builder about this), heavier valve springs, ported and polished head, match porting of the intake and exhaust, compression slightly lifted to 10.1, this engine currently has hydralic lifters so getting them converted to solid lifters, twin side draft webbers and extractors and a few other smaller things,

now it just waits, it is kind of sad i want to drive it...

ill bet you do!!!

Can anyone suggest a good engine builder? The engine is a Toyota 5k, Carby push rod engine, i want to get the following done,

- Replace all the welsch plugs
- Replace pistons
- Balance - crank, pulley, flywheel, rods and pistons
- New timing chain and tensioner
- Head ported and polished.
- Increase compression to 10.1
- Valve seats cut with 3+ angles
- Back cut valves
- Heavier valve springs >70lb
- Supply and fit 25-65, 270 degrees, 0.423" valve lift cam
- Rocker posts machined down to match the cam by valve lift (i.e. if we went with the 0.423 lift then the posts need to be machined down by 0.085) and lifters faced to match cam.
- Reset valve clearance to stock.
- Supply and install solid lifters
- Flywheel machined down to 7kg
- Assemble engine.

Awesome car mate. We are definately getting a mad KE(especially KE55) crew on here. We will have to meet up for a photoshoot sometime when I have done the body on mine.

I will enquire about engine builder for you. Keep up the great work.

so little update...

got the quote back from the engine builders last year and for everything i wanted it was $6k! So decided to just stick in the 5k that we have and then maybe just do some head work down the track... boring i know.... but anyway, have been stuffing arround for ages doing little bits and pieces:
reco'd brake booster and reservoir,
hidden wiring (haha not like there is much!),
mounted the battery in the boot and fitted a isolator/kill switch,
moved the washer bottle to the front so it balanced radiator overflow bottle, neatened up the fuel lines,
resprayed the engine bay,
resprayed the front (behind the grill area/radiator support),
repainted the wheel wells with under body tar paint,
fitted electric fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator and fuel pressure gauge,
got a new steering wheel to replace the massive bus wheel,
Purchased extractors and then got them ceramic coated
made a heat shield for the carbs,
got the starter motor reconditioned,
new water pump, thermostat, front and rear main seals
and other odds and ends i can't remember.... but anyway here is some pics from today, when we finally got off or arse and installed the motor (excuse the shitty phots they are from a camera phone)....

The currently not in use sign says it all...

the dog trying to help...

the heavens seem to approve!

Ah home

yes, i am aware of how tiny it is!

its all pretty and shiny looking...

the heat shield...

and back to sitting around doing nothing... Still not running though, have a little bit of wiring to do, then have to get the carbs rebuilt and get the exhaust done.

looks mad! if your still looking for engine builders go speak to Nas at Thornleigh Cylinder heads a got a full rebuild for 4k new seals and bearing and piston work and a bit of head stuff
