Hey everyone. Currently I have been given the job of looking for a car for my 27 year old sister. She has always wanted a 2000 Honda Prelude VTi-R. It's in her budget range, so I thought why not. Over the past few days I have been doing my research, and it turns out the car drives extremely well, (which it does, as I test drove one with low km's, and kept in great condition, today) but according to the public and critics, these are one of the worst looking cars Honda has made. To be honest I can't see the ugly side of them... but these reviews haven't made it easy for me. Well I feel like im in a bit of sticky situation.

Also... I was thinking about the type of car. It hasn't been around for long, and I find they are extremely scarce. Was just wondering what other members of JDMST think of the prelude in term of looks, and/or performance. Do you think Honda will bring out a newer model of the Prelude? Has anyone tracked a prelude, let alone owned one? I guess if you can all share your thoughts on this car, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I think the gen 5 Prelude is the best looking of all of them. If it was RWD, I would absolutely be very glad to drive one.

The last generation of the Lude is obviously the best looking. Seen one at Wakefield before, but didn't pay attention on how it do. Maybe it's best for you to research it at a Prelude forum like www.preludeaustralia.com

Trivia: I designed the Prelude Australia logo, back when I wanted a Prelude haha.

Nice one van lol.

I love the Prelude actually. As a wee little kid it was always the "sporty" car of the range. The Integra was sporty, but the Prelude was always one above it, sporty and classy at the same time.

My father bought the 4WS Prelude when I was in high school, it was the car of the year (Wheels Magazine I think) and it was a sexy shape, had the 4WS gizmo, cornered damn well on the new roundabouts that NSW were installing in Sydney (yes the birth of the roundabouts in suburbia started about there!) and he even painted the wheels white, same as the body, so cool. :) :) :) (although he did always complain about the car not having enough power).

I'm still a sucker for this shape, maybe because it's been in the family and I have some history with it.

The shape after I never liked, looked like the batmobile. Love the dash though.

And the last shape I am just not sure about. It's classy but lost it's sporty nature. I do love the "PRELUDE" badgin on the back though, fat lettering in a killer font. Nice nice!!!

Prelude is an odd name for a car, though. A prelude is an introduction or a beginning.

Useless, useless trivia: People often argue about the pronunciation of the word 'prelude' as being either 'prey-lood' or 'prel-yood'. Both are considered correct by the Oxford dictionary.

There's also pree-lood, but I do tend to say prel-yood.

I quite like the front of the gen4 Prelude, actually, but the big triangular tail lights was always a real turn off for me :(

I like the pre-lood. If i was forced to drive a fwd honda, it'll be that.

Awsome thanks guys. So it wasn't just me that think they are sexy. What are the magazines thinking? lol

Quick question... Celica ZR or Prelude VTi-R gen 5???

Prelude. The Celica has too much "wishes it was a Supra" about it.

yeapppp... 5th gen it is! I think me and my sister have made our minds up....

Was never a fan of the celica or Toyota's in general, but my sister questioned it. So I thought i'd get opinions of the Lude... which have helped a hell of alot. Thanks everyone...

I think I have found a good one. low Km's, and great condition, and price ain't too bad. Just one problem, which I think could be Hub bearing? NFI tho... gotta get it checked out by NRMA. Should come to a meet one day in it! hehehe.

Thanks guys for all the help :)

FARK that white one is gorgeous!

H22a engine right? how much power do they make? Surely they wouldn't be much slower than a DC2r?

Yeah they H22A. I think they make 147kW at fly. And yeah they are quite a hell of alot slower than DC2R. You can barely feel vtec, you can only hear it. More lower torque as you'd expect tho with a 2.2L.
