View Full Version : Rotary Rebuilds
You Rotary boys spend a lot of time in the garage hehe
So if you have a Rotary to rebuild my mechanic here in Newcastle specialises in the rebuild of rotarys and any other motor.
I know the big boys will ask you to give you there car and later on $5000.
So forget that. We can help you as it is a specialist job.
Pm me for any more details.
Thanks Justin .
Evan
i'm hoping to rebuild my 13b soon when i get enough cash.
does help mean for free?
A full seal kit is around $900 - $1000
He recently did one where the owner gave him the motor and he rebuilt it. Then helped the owner put it back in for around $700
So it can be cheap.. But he can do the full leave job.
His name is Jarrod.

Yeah....VERY important to shop around when you're choosing a rotary rebuild workshop, and it's very important to verify what the quote includes (eg injector clean, radiator clean, new rotor housings, machining side housings, etc).
I got vastly different quotes for what was basically the same thing (one quoted DOUBLE)....workshops that gave me a good vibe are Race Solutions in Penrith and John Edwards Automotive (9809 1358) who rebuilt the motor in the Luce.
Yeah but you can't quote till you know exactly whats wrong. Apparently the renisis motors are cheap to buy.
Like from $2500 - 3000
So i heard anyway.
Its official now.. In the Newcastle Area.

....Race solutions are fine..So far.
So many bad stuff ive read from Ausrotary Forums - Joe [ROTORMASTER].
He rebuild a 13B-REW and within 3000-4000k's the engine blew and when the owner got it opened up by another workshop he didnt replace one of the main parts.
...And another 13B-REW got rebuilt, it blew after a few thousand K's then BOOM! They didnt even rebuild it, replaced it with another engine and they found this out because the engine numbers didnt even match!
CRAZY.
Umm .. how can an engine run without one of the main parts ? (ps... im no rotormaster supporter!!).
With rotarys though, A LOT has to do with the owner themselves not looking after them. I wouldnt ALWAYS blame the engine builder, but rotary building is an art in itself!

In a full build you need to replace the apex seals, water seals, side seals and oil seals. They are all kinda sold separately and you can get away with just replacing the apex and water seals and recycling the old pieces for the rest and save a few hundred bucks. It's a bit dodge of course...

exactly  @ Rotormaster. Well the time I called Joe to replace my AST (cracked and leaking coolant), said he didnt do that kinda job, and I said 'who would', he said 'go to your local mechanic', and I said 'i live 10mins away from you'...he then hanged up the phone on me.
Rocky (PAC-man) does a great job, although he prefer's to choose parts (if your planning a rebuild + extras), charges heaps but doesnt take long to get the job done. >This is also with Ric Shaw, charges heaps too.
Ive heard great things about Race Solutions, mates car is currently in there (its a silver Series 6) getting the real deal rebuild with polished bits everywhere and single turbo conversion.
...FYI - Race Solutions are featured in the latest ZOOM magazine.

That's shocking...I mean an AST replacement is kinda 1.5hrs labour to replace and bleed the system, yes? What workshop wouldn't want that kind of no-brainer/hi-profit work?

I've never used Maroun @ Race Solutions, but he comes so highly recommended by lots of ppl and when you meet him, he's not full of ego either :D As for Ric Shaw, when I approached him for my rebuild, he insisted on using these $1500 apex seals for a stock rebuild....I know that lots of rebuilders think that OEM seals are not reliable anymore but it smelled fishy to me and I went elsewhere.
We have done many RX7's and the like here without a problem yet. There is a fine art with it and my man sure is an artist. We had a fix a problem with mis matched rotors and all sorts of dramas.
Cars we have worked on and built.
