Yup....always looked at the posts but never joined in...so may as well start now...Yellow need new shoes anyway...so this is the best place to gauge what suits what. And made a decision to look for Gunmetal or Black rims for me car...preferably 17 x 7.5 or 8.

After a great day at Wakefield - all I can say is WOW - my first ever Trackday. Thanks to ThunderBird2 and Storm_of_Fate for showing me a thing or two.

The suspension, clutch and flywheel upgrade I've done was well worth it.

The buddyclub helped a great deal. I can feel every bump, turn and sideways. I had my setting set to my everyday driving. Medium damper (10clicks) at the front and Medium to Hard (14 clicks) at the back.

The clutch and flywheel work magnificently except because I also installed a shortshifter. The first two runs I kept missing the gears...amateur.

Thanks to TB2's over-inflated 16" Wheels, oversteering the car was a great entertainment.

This I need to improve on now is heavy breaking, timing, and gearing choice.
Things I need to upgrade are the seats, tyres, and more power.

I have videos of my runs and a little of TB2..but found that my PC doesn't have any avenues to upload it - no Firewire...doh - I'll post 'em once I figure it out.

Also thanks to Storm_of_Fate for his tools!!!

Looking good reggie!
How's are you finding the BC's. Are you finding the damping is adjustable enough for daily/track use?

The BC works wonders, I didn't get a chance to adjust the damping setting as I was unsure how to attack the track and by the time I started getting used to the track I ran out of time. I left the damper setting as what I use everyday - Front 10/16 clicks and Rear 14/18 clicks. Still a comfortable ride but works on the track as well. Next Wakefield I'll set it to all hard and see how I go.

BTW, haven't done my wheel alignment yet after the install which suprised me.

I also did not hear any squeaking noise.

I give it TWO THUMBS UP!!!!:D

Update after my first timed trackday.

I came to the track aiming for a Personal Best around the 1m25s mark after my first track day late last year.

After a couple of months preparing for these day, all I can say it was money well spent. My Personal Best was 1m20s710ms.

The Bride Ergo 2 leather provided me with some areas where I can lean onto while attacking the corners, while the harness that Brett of AllStyleAutomotive.com installed strapped me down on my seat so I can concentrate on my driving than holding onto the steering wheel. (TB2 - do you have photos of my setup?)

The Enkei wheel, Hancook 104 tyre and Stewart from Spinningwheels track setup (Neg 2 camber front and Neg 3 camber rear) kept with the challenges of the day but as the day progress the over used word was "Under under under".

I didn't even get to used my stockies.

Some photos taken by some very good photographer that day.

thanks...here are some more

http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h230/re99ie/4potDBA4000.jpg

ok...first impression of the brakes and dba ....very very Grippy ...but also noisy...I get a clanking noise everytime I hit a bump at the front. The pads are held by two rods on top and a squeal plate between the piston and pads. It still bedding in so I'll wait till I give a judgement on noise. Tested it in the track and it was well worth it. Manage to get consistent braking and no fade. Also the rear did not step out under heavy braking and trail braking.

I did get a the odd noise when I put weight on the front while turning. It sound like the rotor is touching the pads slightly and make a humming sound. All the noise disappeared either due to me getting used to it or everything is warming up and bedding in.

http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h230/re99ie/handbrakeshoeold.jpg

We also found that my handbrake shoe are totally farked when we tried replacing the rear rotors.

http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h230/re99ie/handbrakeshoenew.jpg

While I was in AllStyleAutomotive, I manage to get a proper photo of the strut brace and under body brace.

http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h230/re99ie/hoisted.jpg

http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h230/re99ie/rearstrutbar.jpg

The whole upgrade worked well at the track except I didn't get the 1.19 I promised to achieve...driver is still got his L plates on...next time I'll be aiming for it.

Was lucky enough to drive this car! Superb handling... would of loved to ride in it at it's limit just to see how smooth it would be. Brakes are also top notch apart from the knocking problem, which wasn't too much of a problem actually.

One of the best Lexus's I've seen.

Owners a top guy too :D

So should I leave the Enkei's gloss black or change them to gunmetal? or Should I do it to this BBS? I like the matt colour though.
:???: I'm confused, what color I should get them powder coated too. Any ideas?

Powdercoat the rims orange and run mismatched rims front and rear... then you will have a cool car like someone else on here ;)

But seriously your car looks great, the offset of the new rims gives the car a lovely stance. I reckon the BBS rims would look nice in gun metal or the colour my rims are painted (metallic gun metal) they only go that colour in direct sunlight.

Reg or myself can hook you up with Glenn once you have the parts you need, i'm sure Glenn will be able to help you out provided you can fit into his hectic schedule.
Glenn's MR2 is a stripped out track car, prepped by Neil Bates Motorsport - i've had the pleasure of driving it around Wakefield, and it is quite a weapon.

It's the gunmetal one here: http://www.flickr.com/search/[email protected]&q=mr2+circuit&m=text - currently wearing RE30's.

I got one... sure they are a tad slow on the open roads, but they are still very capable of putting a smile on your face. The 1GFE may cop alot of flack from people, but keep it above 3500rpm and it has enough power for a spirited drive. Chuck in a set of coilovers, and the handling is transformed. They were always a good handling car, but wow do the coilovers make a difference. The car feels so much more planted and stable through the corners with a decent set of coilovers. And when your done with the spirited driving thing, the is200 is a very pleasant car to have, with all the luxury's you need for a comfortable drive and plenty of cabin room for a car of that size.

As what Eldan say, it is a good compromise between spirited driving and luxury driving.

Mine is wearing a Buddyclub N+ Coilover. They are not as hard as Teins but enough to make it useful around the Track.

I can't really say how the car compares to others as this is the first car I've tracked. All I know, even with the weaksauce mid 80RwKw 1GFE pulling a 1.5tonne body with average tyres, I can pull a low 1.19 at Wakefield. But don't fret, it is a car that can take in a 1Uz, 3Uz, 1JZ and 2JZ engine transplant with ease (sort off).

Just be aware, due to the age of model, TRD and Toyota have started to discontinue mods for this car. A lot of goodies are becoming harder and harder to find.

I'll third the comments above, i had -> a lot of fun with my IS200 (http://forum.jdmstyletuning.com/showthread.php?t=9578)

But you will only get these kinds of reports from us anyway. really depends upon what you want from the car, and wether or not you have a want/need/budget for modifications with the intention of extracting more performance.

Other option would be to seek out:
A. JDM RS200 (they are rare, but do appear in Australia as private imports)

I grabbed it off Yahoo auctions for Reg back when the yen vs AUD was quite good.

That cost about $120 back then it will be most likely double now!

Let me know if you want one mate I will grab one for ya.

They have gearknobs with the red stitching also, but alas they have the 5 speed H pattern on top of the knob (which in your case would be perfect as you have a R154 right?)

Pras
27-03-09, 01:32 PM
Wooohaa don't think i could justify $240+ for a bit of interior styling just yet, but you get what you pay for and it does look very nice.

The pattern would be right, I've got the TRD duracon knob on there at the moment, not the prettiest, but a pretty good design for shifting.

The Motec and TRD gearset go a bit beyond this! Quads, cams, coilovers, sways, diff, seats, gauges, quickshift, and on and on.

The thing is, i drove it on Sunday, and it all works brilliantly. It's not hugely fast, but the noise, the drama of it all, it doesn't matter. And it's beautifully balanced.

keioffice, there is an IS300 in the states that has been converted to a turbo BEAMS 3SGE. But the cost of converting an IS200 to an RS200 is so high, no one has bothered since you can just go with a 1J or 2J for the same cost or less.

RS200's are around as private imports, so they can be purchased if you really want one anyway. Both of Glenn's RS200's were purchased from sellers in Australia.

after living at my apartment for a few years...I finally stumbled on our very own Wash Bay a week ago. So this weekend, with some consultation from some enthusiast I went to my local Car Accessories shop to get some gear.

I already have a Meguiars Clay kit sitting in the shelves since I bought it during a Detailing lesson at Currans (06/05/06)

the outcome

the kit, not as impressive as some but a good start...just the basics.
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h230/re99ie/DYI/cleankit.png

the wash bay, I drive to Preston (parents place) just to clean my car before..not anymore.

actually this is the photo of its last clay and buffing (06/05/06).

I actually thought wax is enough until I started reading some of the detailing thread here.

I don't think I can beat a professional detail as I don't have the equipment, knowledge and experience to make all the scratches vanish.

I do want to invest on an orbital tool for polishing but that will require some research first.

Another thing I forgot to do as well is clean the wheels...i only remember it till the end when I noticed that the sponge I bought for the wheels is still in it wrappers

Long long time ago, say 6 to 8 month ago I had the itch to go lightweight. I was after a 5 spoke monoblock forge wheels. That is when I found this...NISMO LMGT4. People said I'm crazy...it is blashpamy!!!!!

you be the judge

It does not look flush due to the 215 tyres wrapped all round

the specs:

17x7.5 +30 with Pirelli P7000 215/40
rim weight 7.1kg*

17x8.5 +40 with Pirelli P7000 215/40
rim weight 7.4kg*

*without tyres.

I could not believe how much different it is until they were in the car.
Steering is lighter and more responsive.
Rear is a lot easier to spin.
I feel the car is a lot happier and livelier with the lightweight wheel

So Why a nismo...my car loves Nissan Option Wheels.. because they look good with the car and they are quality with better fitment.

Am I going to remove the sticker? my answer is N O.....they are what they are...love them being NISMO.

thanks to Rupewrecht for organising the wheels for me. ;)

very nice re99ie. Having just moved to lighter weight wheels myself I know exactly what your talking about, it's like the cars woken up and all its senses are sharper.

What are the total weights with wheel / tyre combined?

Also what made you choose 40 profile over 45?

hehehehe they are BBS from a R32GTR Vspec2 and I totally agree, the BBS are a better fitment as offset is the most ideal (17x8+30). Only problem is they are heavier even though being forged monoblock.

I have decided that for this year I will take the long way to any destination and take the road less travelled. This is where it got me last weekend.

My final destination is Jamberoo Adventure Park for a kids Bday party.

I've decided to take the "via Mac Pass" route instead of the "via Natio" route.

On my way to Robertson I managed to bumped to Coffeeboss on his way to the City. We did a Benny Hill moment chasing each other around a stretch of road with two runabout at each end

http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h230/re99ie/JTYPE/spotted1.jpg

He gave me some directions on where I can do some happy snaps but on my way there I notice a fork in the road that leads me back to the end of Robertson but with a "twist"

I ventured out my intended route and found it being a good decision. I ended up in this town.

http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h230/re99ie/JTYPE/routechange.jpg

a nice piece of road (a bit bumpy) that is not overly twisty but fun enough to drive on.

took some photos on top of a hill next to a fence that ROCKS (lame)

http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h230/re99ie/JTYPE/fence.jpg
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h230/re99ie/JTYPE/topmt.jpg
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h230/re99ie/JTYPE/path.jpg

after the quick snaps, went down to Robertson to head down to my final destination via Mac Pass. A very good drive down with a nice couple let a few of us pass but being the middle of the day there will always be traffic on the way down.

Spent my afternoon at Jamberoo Action Park for a Bday Party...didn't do anything except cook, play poker ($5 buy-in), and ride the slow-kart to take piccies.

Got a call from another forum member that I knew will be on the area so I decided to leave the party and meet up with them. I went back to Robertson via Jamberoo Montain Road...the road is soo twisty, incline so steep, my car so slow that it was tiring just to go through it. I mildy enjoyed it as the car was not upto the task.

Got to Roberston Pie Shop to meet up with few peeps. They munched on a few Pies before we head back to Hume Hwy via Kangaloon Road.

few traffic on the way down but the drive back was all to my own.

Jamberoo Pass is all about revs and momentum Reg, my old IS didn't mind going up there, apart from that first bit. The brief twisty section at the top is good too, and there's a nice lookout on the right there as your heading towards Robertson.
