How do you pull your handbrake when you come to a stop?
Do you press the button first, or just 'rip it up' with that awful noise?
What damage can 'ripping' it up do?

I always press the button so that there isn't a ripping sound....the ripping sound is the ratchet mechanism, and obviously when there is sound there is metal to metal contact and something is wearing out.
You can jump into a 1960s car and the handbrake will still usually work, so the wear obviously isn't very fast :D But isn't it better to pull it up without the sound? :)

It shouldnt wear out. Its ment to make that noise.
Then you can't open the doors either, because they will wear out too.

Apparrently when you do your Red P's test, you have to grind it. Just to show the RTA person you are actually putting up the hand brake. My friends little sister failed because she used the button...
Umm, half-half? I hold the button then release it near the top for a coupla clicks, just to make sure it's up nice and tight... Am I weird? :?

opposite case for me. My L's teacher told me:
"Grinding the handbrake shows your assesor you are incapable of using a mechanical machine properly. It is generally a frowned upon occurance".....yeah he was a weirdo alright.
I button it always, i use handbrake often for on/off for a split second in traffic, as fark all torque and a sport organic clutch on a hillstart can be quite a pain in the ass. So i tend to button always i guess
It kinda varies actually, I do both, and half-half as rodent mentioned.

i'm not sure...will have to take note next time i drive :P
ive got one of those handbrake "drift" buttons
so for me, its rip it up with no sound, and then pop the button out
unless i pop the button out, then rip it up, but i never do that anyway
hehe
