Hey guys,

Thought id throw up a build thread of my new car

This was my old car i built for time attack.. While being a lot of fun it was just to much for the street and i wasnt prepared to take it to the next level.

Couple of pics.

Now onto the new car

After parting the mx out i was in the market for an s13. After doing the ground up build before i didnt really want to do that again so i set out looking for one with good mods already. I noticed a nice jungle green one up for sale that i use to do time attack with and hit him up. Seemed like a great car with a solid motor, good suspension and a few other little things that i liked.

I went and test drove it and after a few weeks i went a picked it up on saturday Chucked some old gtst wheels on it for transportation and set off to Nathan's place to get the exhaust tucked and bash plate on.

Came back to nathans yesterday to do a few things to the car while he was working on the exhaust. I replaced the cheap looking ganador reps with some stock mirrors, lowered the car, put the wheels ive been hoarding for a while now on and chuck my old bride zeta in.

Best to let the pics do the talking.

Main goal for the exhaust was to keep it quiet and streetable while having it tucked right up. Happy with the out come :D

And heres how its sitting atm.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8388/8569833397_f05b68a965_z.jpg

Still need to even out the heights and lower the rear more, add camber arms and a few other things but im happy with how its coming along. I do have another pair of regas im just waiting on tires to come in.

So thats pretty much it. I plan to get out to the friday night drifts on the 30th and start to learn how to slide it and just keep improving my driving from then on in. But before that happens, rego is on its way early next week hopefully

Appreciate all kinds of feedback negative and positive :D

The colour looks great in the sun light, thats not a factory colour from memory - wouldn't know what it is would you?

Also, what seats are in there, not standard ones? Put up a mod list :)

And lastly, if you need vents for that bar, shoot a PM to spray2020 (I believe thats the right username), as he is making replica factory vents for aero bars.

Jungle Green is an S14 colour, and those are S14 front seats I think?

Colour looks great on the 13, I wish my 180 had an exhaust tucked up like that!

Whats the plans for the car? More time attack? Drift? Street?

With that power just dont do much bar your basic lock mods till you have found the limit of that setup as big lock+big power makes for learming a lazy style

Hey guys..

So having to work a sunday i didnt think id get much time to work on the car this weekend but the work wasnt ready so early finish :D Cheering.

Decided to set the height that i wanted to have the car at. Took out the front coilovers so i could remove the collars and lowered the rear to suit. It seems about even by eye but ill double check everything when i finish it off during the week.

Im picking up some camber arms for the rear and spacers for the front and hopefully i can get it sitting pretty much where i want before friday. Once the arms are in and everything is good ill do a string alignment and hopefully get a spot on friday night drifts. Really excited to try this car out :D

Anyways heres some pics

Update :)

Picked up some adjustable camber arms for the rear and spacers for the front to get things sitting where i want :) Had a few issues with the camber arms with one bolt not coming out. After lots of swearing and all that i realised the camber dial was like stuck on it which is why it wouldnt move. After getting that off it was easy.

Spent an hour or so playing with the toe and camber to try and get it about square. Put the spacers on the front and dropped the car and it all tucked in perfect. Will align the fronts a little more tomorrow.

Also just picked up rego this arvo so will definately be at qr tomorrow night :)

Update.

So this weekend has been good so far. Spent a bit of time learning how the car reacts sideways and getting use to controlling it. So much fun. Best thing about it is how rewarding it is once u nail something :D Something i never really got with time attack.

Few little issues though, camber arm came loose so rear end wanted to walk. Managed to get it home and sort that out this morning. CV's boots are split but thats no surprise. Will need to get a steel bash plate made up to as the alloy one is taking a beating. Having a lot of fun with this car though which is the main thing :D

Update

so past week ive been sourcing a few parts to get this back on the road. Everything is almost together just need to get the panel and paint work done. Will try and last longer now haha .

Soon as i get it back on ill be heading out to a morning sesh and getting it out there. I figure sliding around in the wet is nothing compared to dry. Maybe learn throttle and steering a bit better in the wet cos its slower but when speed comes into it, it all changes. So i figure getting out there and going for it will do me good.

Will be getting some tires put of the other pair of regas either this week or next so i have them all round and some spares. Car should be straight and panels painted by next weekend hopefully so not long now. In other news, I picked up some wheels on yahoo for cheap so when they get here ill get them widened. Ive always love these wheels and think the polish will look awesome on the green.

Just wondering if there was a cheaper way

Everyway ive looked seems to be 600-700 a pair and seems to be hard to even get the right specs after that most the time unless you find the perfect small sizes

charlie_s13
09-04-13, 07:52 AM
Yeah well once widened these should be around 9.5 +13 which is almost perfect for a stock bodied s13 and should be easily sellable :) I don't really mind how long they take me to do. Will do a pair first and then see how it goes.

Regas all round and that should be happening pretty soon :)

Sup guys,

Finally a worth while update on this car. Towed it over to my mate Tom and Flynns workshop to pull it straight and prep the front end for paint. Managed to smash it out over 2 days and then re assemble today. Stoked with the finish. Awesome work done by Matty, Tom and Flynn with the paint work.

Makes me want to drive it so much haha. Just gotta run new oil cooler lines, remove air con, flip cooler and run shorter piping and then suss out the gearbox and windscreen. Still a little bit to do but im aiming to be done a week before morning sesh at the end of the month Dropped off the weds to get widened and they will be 17x9.5+14 which should sit good. Also picked up some tires for the regas to get on monday.

Really wanting a kouki wing atm so ill see how i go with getting one on it. I think it would look pretty cool. Anyways thats enough, time for pics.

Car rides really smooth at that height hey. Apart from bottoming out or hitting reflectors it's nice. With the cage and sway bars it sits really flat and transition is nice and smooth to. It's a good base hey. Once I've done this morning sesh at qr ill know more of how it goes 3rd gear at speed.

Finally got some tires to put on the regas and got them on the car today. Only issue being the tires i got had stupid rim protector so i had to remove the spacer. Im gonna swap the tires from the avs to the regas and yeah should be sweet then :)

Plan to get the box out, air con and get ready for it to accept new intercooler piping this week. Count down to morning sesh is on :)

Like he said.. the front wheel makes contact a little with full lock but its sort of moulding to the tire now so that shouldnt be an issue. Rear is fine. Tbh the car actually rides and drives better then what my old mx did. Not that i really spent a lot of time on that car but in comparison this one is a lot lower. I love it haha :P

Update on the pos.

Removed all the air con stuff as the condenser already got smashed in the hit. Even though i would have liked to keep it i just didnt want the hassle. When that was out i decided to clean down my motor. A lot of dirt and grime on this and came up a treat

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8556/8698701250_f51fa38457_c.jpg

Also tackled the job of removing the gearbox. What a pita that was to get to those top bolts. Anyways after a few hours and plenty of swearing it was out. Was pretty suprised to see how dirty it was. Caked on oil inside and grime everywhere.

To do list before end of may morning sesh:
- Put in new box
- New battery
- New oil cooler lines
- New cooler piping setup (Decided since i done have aircon to do a short piping setup with the cooler in the bay)
- Service and all new fluids
- Windscreen (Anyone have a guy that does them cheap ?)

Till next time

Update :)

Spent way to long on the weekend trying to fit this front bar. Need to try and source a legit one now cos im not really that happy with this pos copy. Was suppose to be good as well.. Anyways. Its on. Made up new oil cooler brackets today. Came up good. Nice and strong and should be sweet for air flow.

Picking up some fittings and line this week to make up some new oil cooler lines. Also grabbing some new silicon joiners for my new cooler setup. Keen as to see the improvements with the shorter piping. In other news picking up new box on friday, that will go in on saturday and the cooler piping is booked in for sunday. Not much left to do to get it running so im happy :) Im really thinking about running a kouki rear wing. I love them on both s13s and 14s and id be interested to see if i could make it work.

Anyways heres some pics:

yea we had abit of trouble getting the old sr box out, socket with a unijoint with tape on it so it doesnt fling around as many extensions as possible with a rattle gun and smooth sailing. The worst are rb25 and z32 boxes hit the tunnels so bad, front xmembers need to be undone and lowered.

Today Nathan from Fabulous Fabrications came over and whipped up some in bay cooler mounts and piping. Pretty stoked with the outcome. Keen as to see the difference. So just gotta get box in, new oils and fluids and then charge up my small battery :D :D

Like macey said we will be putting the box in on thursday night :) Anyways so i was tinkering away with this after work yesterday and managed to pretty much finalise everything in the engine bay :) New oil filter, tightened oil cooler lines, alternator back on and clamps where there needed to be clamps :) Just need 4 3" clamps as nothing i had would go big enough :(

So all thats left now is:
Getting box in (Tomorrow night)
Fit battery (Saturday)
Fluids (Saturday)
windscreen (Saturday)

Cant wait to drive this on the weekend :D:D

So friday night a mate came over and helped me out with a little wiring.
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7407/8750218080_7656c13923_c.jpg

Next morning i took the car to a mates workshop and borrowed his hoist to chuck this gearbox back in. Fuck so much easier on a hoist. Spent the rest of the day knocking things off the list. Got gearbox, windscreen, fluids and everything done. Went for a test drive and everything was sweet :) While i was there a mate brought over his mad little r100. This thing is so rad. 10a pp and watanabes. Seriously perfect.

Haha if only.

Anyways so i got a chance to drive it a fair bit this weekend and just iron out any issues that came up. Everything is sweet though so ill get some stuff sorted for Japnats this weekend. Getting tires on the regas as we speak so will chuck those back on today and get it fitting sweet. Feels so good to drive this though. Forgot how fun it was.

Fitted up tires to the regas again. Had to a bit of work to make them fit so i tried something different. Usually id use a guard roller but i dont really like the 'flare' shape that they tend to give. I only needed a little more room so i went and picked a few magazines from my pile and got to work.

http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5469/8764136462_1549ae0a1b_z.jpg

Put it inbetween the tire and guard and lowered it down.. Jumped in the trunk a little bit to pull the guard out and over so i have room under compression. Ended up working a treat so i was stoked about that :)

Cant wait to fit these up on the weekend. They will sit exactly like the regas sit now so win win.

Thanks man. Nar didnt heat them. they were already previously just needed a bit of a pump. I think if u go to far it will fail like if its too mexican so u just need to do it within reason to get a good shape.

Update:

So drove my car over to maceys yesterday to sort out this wheel alignment. How it was before was there was the toe in the front was all out of wack, same with the rear, steering wheel wasnt straight and un even cambers.
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7355/8787507023_f84ffe4041_z.jpg

After the alignment the car was much better. Drives really nicely and yeah stoked to have everything pretty much even. In the fronts, Camber wise im running around -5.5* with about 1.5mm toe out. Rear camber is around -2* with about 1mm toe in. Hopefully should be good to start off with then make changes after sunday if i need to.

Anyways a bit of a run down from yesterday.. Was pretty nervous just about to head out for the first time. Decided to do clubman circuit first go and nubbed it straight away and spun after a couple of laps i started to get the hang of it and felt a lot more confident entering and going though the dipper.

Took a bit of time to get use to the transition and after a few spins and one time getting beached on the ripple strip i started to link it. Hardest part i found was getting use to how much the car was going to snap back. How i was doing clubman was starting in 2nd, initiating and then picking 3rd just being going up the hill. then just carried that through the straight section and flicking on exit. That seem to feel good. I know my lines probably arent the best.

I tried turns 3 - 6 and just couldnt get the section where the follow through. Anyways after stripping a few wheel studs, exhaust manifold cracking, rear wheel bearing fucking out and my driveshafts making a lot of noises i decided to call it a day and limp it back home.

Was a fantastic day and had an absolute blast. The best feeling when i got turn 6 for the first time. Anyways heres some pics :)

Only skid pic i have so far.. and this was exiting turn 6 so its not even that sideways :(

So spent the day saturday running around getting a few things done for the car so i could smash it out sunday. Picked up lcas off nathan, new ball joints pressed in, new wheel studs pressed in and new tires for the front :) Also because my car is always outside and with it raining i decided to get a pop up gazebo off a mate.

After a big and wet day on sunday, plenty of running around and with the help of some mates we finally got it all done. Took it for a spin around the block and very happy. Just need to change a few things over but all it good :)

Oh well next day i jacked it up, made a new gasket and bolted it back on. Bolts just rattled loose after hitting so much shit Does sound pretty rad with straight pipe though. I know heaps of people are against it but i love it. Might get another axle back made up eventually.

Hanging out for next friday night drifts to get some half decent track time again. Gonna try get the front bar painted before morning sesh. Heres a pic that popped up on Nicevibe. I love this style of photography. More interesting to look at then the usual stuff that gets taken. Cheers marvis !

Car was defected last night. I dropped the car off to a mates yesterday arv so he can bring it into work and do a wheel alignment for me. I got a call at 9pm off his phone but it was senior constable what ever his name was saying that he was with my car and it illegal and all that jazz.

So what happened was he saw lights out the front and thought someone was trying to make off with parts or whatever and went down to scope it out. Was the police however and he was in the middle of writing me a ticket. He talked them down a bit so i got away sorta ok..

Need to get a rwc and take it to the cop shop for inspection. But i have 4 weeks to do so.

He got me for:
Height
wheels
tires
pedal rubbers.

I lose my license next week for 3 months so im contemplating just de registering it for the time being to clear the defects and then getting rego again closer to the date of me getting it back. Bit of a pain in the arse but oh well shit happens i suppose. Never actually knew they could defect u like that lol

update:
Drove out to Friday night drifts. Ended up having a ball hey. Took me a while to get use to the wet conditions. Then i started hearing a mad exhaust leak and it kept boggin 3rd when it dried up. Ended up being the o2 sensor fell out lol.
Put that back in and then it rained. So decided to start learning to do scando entries. had so much fun trying to enter differently. Made for an awesome night!!

So keen for morning sesh now!!

Got the weds back on the weekend. Long story short they were built to big.. 10's instead of 9.5's. But after a bit of fucking around and machining they now fit. Still not the best but ill learn to deal.

I actually really like these wheels on this colour.. Almost too much.

Had to take the fender off to get the bumper colour matched with the front end. Also walked out the front and found one of my weds was flat.. So i decided to jack it up and pull it off. Tire just popped off the bead lol. Turns out the valves were leaking in both. One more then the other. So chucked the cst's on to see how it looks.. I still like those wheels a lot hey. Very cool looking. Bumper should be done on saturday so ill put it all back together ready for Wednesday :)

Also if anyone is keen, the regas are for sale $2600. Condition is awesome as it was only just re coated not long ago.

Got the front bar painted. Came up good and looks so much better :) Went out and did a morning sesh. Loved it. Drifting is a lot more rewarding then time attack.

Then came the task of getting it back to roadworthy standards so back in the stock suspension went. Borrowed some stock wheels and did all the necessary things to get the defect cleared.

Update:
So did a new turbo setup. Td06, 6 boost mani, external gate, decat pipe etc etc
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7448/9832864745_67ec6e4c35_c.jpg

Did some drifting :) New turbo setup kicks arse. So much better. Was battling a misfire all weekend so that was lame but me. Gonna fix that, do some gasket changes and maybe do a few other things just to tidy things up. One a bad note though someone reversed their trailer into my rear quarter and didnt leave a note... its pretty gay.

I think there's a continuation of the write-up on Secretdrift.com.au however I believe it got BN Sports kit, VS-XX, painted blue, then was parted out and moved on to a Silver JZX110.
