so I'm not that technical when it comes to cars yet. still in the process of learning everything: terminology, why certain things work the way they do, why i should do this, why i shouldn't do that etc, but I've been modding it the only way I know how, and that's through aesthetics

this will be the slowest thread made possible since I've got low to little savings, and sourcing parts for this car is nearly impossible but as they say "good things come to people who wait".

the car the day I got it

it had these ugly chrome ring around the back lights, I did not like them one bit, so the day I brought it home from Newcastle I ripped the chrome off and ordered a stubby antenna on eBay.

custom plates were installed (after the worst 3 hours at the RTA) and stubby was screwed on the moment it came in the mail

had been waiting for a day where it was sunny and I wasn't at work to plastidip my wheels.

next mods include:
- coilovers (still trying to research on which is best - feel free to leave any suggestions!)
- front lip
- muffler

The coilovers you choose will depend on the direction you're heading with the car.

I.e. daily or more track focused etc etc.

No such thing as best. Because the best one is also probably the one with double digit spring rates that would rattle your skull off on Sydney roads.

at the moment whilst I'm still in the process of learning, id like coilovers for daily use, but eventually I'd like to track the car. my budget at the moment would probably be around the 1500 range? I was thinking teins from good-win

sooo.... it's been awhile since i've updated. not much has been happening to poor old Rodger. Sourcing parts for him is almost nearly impossible, but i've managed to get a couple of things these past couple of months.

was browsing on JDMConcept and found a new gear knob for him. excited as hell because they only had this blue pearl looking one before but when i saw the matte black. lost my bloody mind. bought it without a second thought.

http://img577.imageshack.us/img577/6918/ngdv.jpg

a couple of days of days ago i decided to get him some new kicks. Drove down to JDM Yard (shout out to John who helped pick them out and installed them), got lost the first time, damn GPS showed me the wrong way, but this time it was an easy find.

Purchased some Buddyclub's

http://img835.imageshack.us/img835/6757/4142.jpg

what they look like on

http://img713.imageshack.us/img713/9603/gh9k.png

yes, yes i know. i still need to lower it, damn it fails the shoe test hard. But not to fear! I've put down a deposit for coils at JDM Yard and awaiting for them to arrive.
excitement.

And finally. As most Sydney-siders would know, the day was amazing today, so i took Rodger for a cruise to La Perouse. Got lost in an industrial area, but that only meant it was time for some photos!

thanks to Theresa for this amazing shot :)

next on the list of mods.

I've found a hardtop!!! it's all the way in SA, but i've been in contact with the seller and i'm trying to organise some shipping. if any of you know of a good company that would do it, please let me know :)

THANKS!

My man John helping the laaaadies.

I'm only just starting to go top down in my MX-5, it's been quite fun the past few sunny days! I've always hated convertibles (paranoid that everyone's looking at me) and I never drove my old MX-5 with it's top down (took out the soft top and had a hardtop), same with my S2000 (Mugen hardtop).

haha I know what you mean about being paranoid! I told John I never drive with the top down, makes me feel too showy and there's that potential of someone totally jumping in the car and stabbing me hahaha

I can't wait for the hardtop to come though! in the process of working out delivery methods with the guy from SA!
any tips justin?

(btw, heard you too all the mx5 books at JDM yard - devo, I wanted to read them while John was installing the rims)

Yeah a hardtop is a pretty big thing. Mine's coming in from Yahoo Auctions Japan (was way cheaper than buying local) but it's being shipped by sea. Might take a while! Not so sure on how you could get your hardtop here. I'm sure someone on here has some ideas/experience with couriers?

And yup, sorry! I took ALL of the MX-5 books off Zi (so many of them lol).

so i ordered Neo Max coilovers from JDMyard and they came in about a week ago.
after much begging and pleading got my friend Darren to install them for me (I'd like to think i was amazing help and great company)

we finished the installing 3.30am and went for a test drive. realised it was too low and the front wheels were rubbing against my guards... bloody hell.
Darren came back 9am the next day to get it fixed for me to make it to training.

THANKS DARREN!!

he's a little too low (NO DID SHE JUST SAY THAT?!!) and he got stuck on the driveway at a petrol station - yay.
so I might have to get his raised soon... but for now, this is how he sits :)

Keep up with the DIY. MCM ftw

I'm wondering if all girls refer to their cars as a "he" or "him". Seems like most guys on here refer to their cars as a "she".

Rodger is also an interesting name for a car.

Hi All!

since having a bf (who is not into cars at all! wtfffff) i haven't had the chance to update you all on my adventures with Roger, mainly because there hasn't been alot. I've had to consistantly keep him at home as the actual bf wants to drive his car.

However on a recent cruise with a gf, i did chip my rims. after a loud blood curling scream escaped my lips and i had stopped crying, i inspected it to see that it could easily be fixed (maybe, in my mind i can fix anything).

just wanted to ask if i could possibly borrow someones jack (does anyone live near wentworth point?) and some elbrow grease to help me get the rim off and fixed - also could i get some tips on what i should/shouldn't do when fixing scatched/chipped rims.

let me know!

thank you in advance!

all depends on how bad the rim is damaged, a quick paint touch up can be done with the wheel still on the car.
Have you got any pics of the damage..

if you are on Facebook, join the Barge Racing Team, its about time we get a NC only run happening :D
