View Full Version : My Starlet build

27-03-13, 12:48 AM
Hi there im starting this build thread a little too late into the build process but oh well it needed to be done.
Heres a quick overlay of my car up till now.
About 2 years ago i purchased my starlet life with a turbo on a non turbo motor, it had a front mount bigger than most VL's and a screamer pipe on an internal wastegate (LOL) with 17" rims and chopped springs.
I drove it like that for a while before deciding that 5psi boost cut was painfully annoying and decided to swap it with an EP82 GT halfcut, me and a few mates mate the swap in a weekend and it was much better to drive, i eventually removed the FMIC after cops didn't like it, and reverted to top mount, than fitted up a TD04 turbo with a manifold i purchased from Wicked EP Racing along with a dump pipe.
Along the way i fitted up some K-Sport coil overs and that was about it apart from fluffy interior and a fully sick doof doof stezza!

As it stands now i have removed the stezza and the back seats ready for a cage, i have fitted up 2 Bride low max carbon fibre seats and a momo steering wheel, and im in the middle of covering my door trims in Bride material.

The motor eventually spun a big end bearing about 6 months ago so i purchased a engine rebuild kit with 1mm oversize pistons by ross and scat forged h beam rods from speedvision cps and had the motor all done by Duncan and Foster in Moorebank.

I was waiting 4 months for ARP head bolts and they finaly arrived so now the motor is being assembled over the next couple of weeks and once it returns ill keep you posted on the progress.

Ive got many goodies for her such as a haltec sport 1000, innovative wideband gauge, ignition coils, turbosmart external wastegate, turbosmart plumb back BOV etc.

I still need to get the gearbox rebuilt and a quaife helical lsd to be ordered, i need a decent brake setup for the front im thinking k-sport 6 pots (not sure yet), fuel injectors and rail need to be sourced and many more items while ill reveil as i go.

I've got a complete rear disk brake axle, new rear disks from toyota with bearings, overhauled the calipers etc.

I will keep anyone interested informed as i go, i guess thats the point of a build thread!

The initial build started about 6 months ago.

So are you making this a glanza replica or keeping it vanilla? Very interested to see how this goes.

Can you get ITB's for a 4EFTE?

28-03-13, 07:04 PM
Just keeping it original LIFE looking lol! The more less sus it looks the better!

As for ITB's on a 4EFTE i doubt it, being a turbo motor cant imagine too much efficiency there, single throttle body even with standard plenum is more than enough for what i am doing!

Front and rear strut bracing, front lower brace and front fender bracing!

30-03-13, 01:10 AM
Smallest ksport brake kit is 6 pot callipers and 286mm disks which are massive for the car but ohwell lol

That door trim is so over the top its awesome!

I wasnt happy with the standard gates belt and cheapo water pump, so to ease my mind i picked up the gates racing belt

Aswell as the genuine water pump today

Nice man! Really want to swop with turbo engine as well but stuck with budget, lol
Btw where you bought the coilover and how much is it?
Are they 15x8 +30?
Gud luck with the build mate

11-04-13, 11:42 PM
Yeah the turbo engine is so much better, when you do get one make sure you get an ep82 GT turbo motor, it has stronger con rods than the ep91 glanza turbo motor so you can run more boost safely.

At the time a guy from pedders suspension got them in for me $1600 but theres a ksport dealer somewhere in sydney.

Wheels are 16x8 +25, thanks mate, hopefully wont be too long now!

If you have a 91 it will be a stuff around putting an 82 engine in. Need to whole loom.

12-04-13, 06:42 PM
Make sure u get one with a loom of course, makes life easier!
I got mine in over a weekend, couple of different wires but all good!

Oh i remember seeing this starlet come to a EST meet up... you rocked up to a quiet/nice meet up, smoked a wicked hectic massive burnout like a douche and cops came down on everyone... thanks for that...

Hey man

Just wondering where you got all your bracing from and cost ?

PM me if you want :)

Build looks good!

Bracing was all from Ultra Racing Aus, was roughly around $ 400 for the lot i think!

No worries mick :) anytime
