So, I've finally got myself another silvia, and i'm finally getting around to uploading pics, and telling it's story.

Bought it December last year from a member on here. Was just a standard, NA, Auto, CA18. Had 177,000kms on it. Was going to be the perfect daily for me. We looked it over (admittedly, we clearly overlooked a few things which in the end cost me big time), but overall, we were relatively happy.

Picked the car up from Chatswood. Got it to Lithgow (an hour a way). Car broke down. Had to get it towed to Bathurst.

Took it to get checked out.

Somewhere along the way, the plug from the bottom of the radiator had been lost, and in turn cooked 2 cylinders. It was leaking more oil than a siv,and the exhaust manifold had a crack in it. Front struts were gone, tie rods were gone. It was a mess.

It then sat, as I considered my next move. Whether I simply swap the CA for another, and use it to save money, so that I could eventually do a conversion, or do I just go for broke and build it now?

Found a cheap Blacktop SR with manual box for sale. Bought it.

Took it to the shop in Bathurst that was doing the conversion for me.

It's taken a few months to get it back, and it's still not completely finished, but it's getting there. So far I've replaced:

Radiator (replaced with a quality alloy one)
Walbro fuel pump was installed
Diff was replaced with a shimmed R200
MCA Blue Series coil overs are being installed
custom exhaust being welded in the next week.

In the near future, I'm going to be looking at:

Respray (bit of rust evident which I'd like to get rid of)
HID's
New dash (crack in this one)
Gate
brake upgrade
wheels
and maybe some clear tail lights.

Still tossing up whether to do a 5stud conversion on it

The goal for this car is basically just to be a nice, clean street car, with the odd track day here and there. And will definitely be attending some meets! So if you happen to see it, come say hey! Keen on getting back in to the scene and meeting some peeps!

Ok so a bit has happened since the last post (been really slack on here...but then again, havent really had much to post).

Got a 3" turbo back exhaust welded up for it by a mate (ALL-W3T/TVE Motorsports on the forums), with a dump pipe tip. Didn't want to go for the cannon option, and thought this was a bit different.

Very happy with the exhaust. Produces a good note. And no headache while cruising. So mass win.

After getting the exhaust done, I parked it, did an oil change on it (wasn't entirely confident that anything was done 100% during the conversion, as i'll list some of the issues I've found later).

Did the oil change, started it, made this weird whirring type sound when cold...so took it back out to TVE Motorsports, and not being 100% confident in my abilities (and the fact this car seems to be cursed), I got all the fluids flushed and replaced. Water pump changed. Found out the car is missing the rear sway bar...

Coil overs were put in..MCA Blue Series. Just need to adjust the ride height and damper settings to make sure they're all 100%.

Had my reverse lights wired up after being told by the workshop that did the conversion that "it must be a blown fuse"
Had my headlight globes changed to Philips +100's, and had them relayed up. Need new headlights though because the chrome inside has gone, so my low beam still sucks ass.

Ordered a genuine Nissan gear boot from TAARKS, got a leather NISMO gear knob from Just Jap, crystal tail lights. I'll post pics of all this when I get home.

So, at the moment, that's how it'll stay. It's getting a Mongoose alarm fitted next week.

To do list still includes:
Front mount
Blow off valve (just not keen on the stock one)
S15 turbo
5 stud conversion/new wheels
and a few body/paint repairs.

Really I just want to keep the car clean, and functional. Don't want big power from it. Just something punchy, that I enjoy driving. It might get a few other power bits here and there...but other than that...i'm happy with how it is.

Oh..so if anyone has brick headlights, and a 3 slat grill for sale, let me know?

Would've been cheaper/less brain damage man.

This car has been a nightmare. Most of the time this car has had off the road has been fixing things that weren't done to start with.

When the gearbox got drained, we only got about 1.5L out of it...

MCAs come set up out of the box to the best settings for your chassis. Play with the damping, but I wouldn't touch the height if you want the best performance out of them. Damping adjustments are really responsive and you'll feel a difference in the way the car behaves. Have a good read of all the setup documents they provided.

Car looks good. Two tone is best. Enjoy!

Hey man,

Yeah i know. When they got put in, they got reset back to stock ride height and 0 pre load on the springs. My mate didnt read the spec sheet.

So I'm gonna set the damping to what Josh sent me initially, and just play with the ride height, see what works and what doesn't. He said he hasn't done a set of springs like this before, so mine was sort of an experiment...so we'll see how his set up is.

I absolutely love this colour. All my cars have been two toned even my first and it's just such a classy 80/early 90s thing. Some people say it's cheesy but yeah, really loving it.

Does anyone know if S13 Silvia's came with a drivers airbag AND ABS? Apparently some 180sx came with a drivers airbag.

^^
No from series 1 All but base model had air bags, by the time s2 came out it was manditory to have at least a drivers airbag in most contries so they all had one

Similar story in 180's was an option in the prefacelift type X (like your 94-96 black top, but still looked like a chuki)

Anyway hope it works out an being back in a sil doenst continue with the issues youve been having of late

Okay thanks for the heads up guys. Saved me asking on S-AU. I know people aren't the biggest fan of airbags but considering the amount of bad drivers out there, I'd have some comfort in knowing it may end up saving my life (I'm actually looking for an S chassis car as a daily but something clean).

Thanks bud! Been going ok since I got it back. We've narrowed down the whirring noise on start up to either air in the power steering system, or power steering pump...so we'll see how that goes.
Getting low tomorrow :( was meant to be today, but no 21mm socket :( Makes me sad :( but at keast this way I can take it to work, lower it and align it all in one hit.

Its getting a 32 GTR rear sway bar as well :D happy days!

Well aware of this fact. Im hoping the fronts settle a bit and sink...they're almost maxed out. We dropped the front 70mm...

So, washed the car today, thought i'd take the time to inspect the missfire its had since picking it up the other day. Come to find, coolant hasnt been flushed properly, and there's still the old red shit in the reservoir tank...so time to flush it all and do it again..

mrobbo15
11-08-13, 04:32 PM
You dropped it 70mm and it's still that height? How is this even possible? :|

Black Widow
11-08-13, 05:03 PM
It was stock height to start with man, there was a decent amount of clearance to start with...

Black Widow
11-08-13, 05:12 PM
Question re: the reservoir coolant.
Car has only done probably 40km since being completely flushed (excluding that bottle). Could i get away with simply emptying the tank? Its not discoloured in any way, so doesnt look like its mixed with the green shit. Thoughts?

INVSBL
12-08-13, 05:45 AM
yeah it shouldnt be an issue at all.

So, bought some new shoes for my girl yesterday... Yokohama/Advan Oni rims, 16x8+25 on the front, and 16x9 +38 on the rear.

Need to get 2 new tyres for them (funnily enough lol). Will post pics once i've fitted :)

Black Widow
25-08-13, 02:25 PM
So, this was a test fit of the new rims aplast week. Since then, new Goodyear tyres have been fitted to the fronts (and pretty sure the rears will have to go soon...probably should've replaced them at the same time but money got the better of me).

Just got to adjust the ride height a bit, and its good to go

Black Widow
25-08-13, 06:18 PM
1. Fix height issues
2. Replace power steer pump and hope that fixes noise
3. Fix gearbox leak (most likely replace clutch at same time
4. S15 turbo
5. Front mount
6. Stock airbox
7. R32 GTR rear sway bar

Thats pretty much it
