View Full Version : JDM purity
how pure jdm are your mods?
Just looking at my mx5 on the weekend and planning my future mods and there will a lack of jdm components when compared to my echo.....
like german rims, italian seats, german quick shifter, French brakes and rotors, pommie harness, chinese hid, aussie roll bar, aussie cai, american pod air filter and soon to be american blower... only thing jdm after market mods are jap guages, jap head unit, jap semi slicks and soon to be jap coilover and jap lsd
hmmmm I dont know the country of original for exedy clutch....

Alot of my car is JDM parts mainly because of the front end but apart from that..
Italian steering wheel, Jap rims made in Russia, Aus front sway, jap rear sway, jap gearknob, american air filter, jap oil filter, jap coilovers, NZ headers.
thats about all i can think of.
Jap Head UNit made in China ? :P
My car is jdm manuf'd, but engine isnt jdm as my engine never came in the jdm models. Go figure. Does that mean my car isnt really JDM at all?
Like the website address says, my car will be JDM STYLED.... but i highly doubt the majority of parts will be pure jdm - simply cos i dont have the cash for it!

everything else is JDM or DIY

For the MX5, everything is JDM, except for the Nardi (which is the JDM-style "drift wheel" and it was bought in Japan) the roll cage (which is kinda hard to bring back from Japan :) ) and the Loch Stewart intake/header/zorst, which is Australian-made.
As for the Loch gear, Loch Stewart was a popular member of the MX5 club and a retired engineer who made hot up bits in his spare time (he even had his own dyno in his house). He passed away last year aged in his mid 80's and was such a lovely old gent that I wouldn't dream of swapping out his parts for JDM gear.
But everything else has to be JDM.

first of all my car is JDM (being an import).
with the parts i have italian steering wheel, JDM wheels, tyres, seats, HU, coilover, exhaust, bars, headlights. US filter and speakers. AU brake disc ..... that's it.
ps. i had the pleasure of visiting Loch's son Gary's house which housed the dyno and stuff. both awesome people.

Out of all the mods i have done to my car (most of it anyway) is pure jdm. The only exception is the bodykit.....which is AUDM, aka MFX built :D
By the way, i think Exedy is Jap brand too.
JDM allll the way !!!
Except as Kula mentioned an Italian Steering wheel is a must :) ie nardi :)
Everything else is JDM, OEM or custom.

What about USDM YO?!!!
Nah but seriously. I'd love to go JDM all the way because it just feels better on my car (lol!).
At one point in my build I had to sacrifice JDM brands for a PWR radiator + intercooler due to PWR being cheaper. I would still want to change those items to JDM items in future if I needed to replace them at some point.
But yep, love the Nardi wheel and how it's associated and connected to Japanese modifying car culture. Love and respect a fair few other non Japanese brands too of-course but have a greater love for JDMST. :)

Everything in my car is 100% JDM... apart from stock Momo steering wheel, and what ever came standard on my car. I can't put anything else on my car but JDM parts! Mostly Spoon parts on my baby.

I love JDM bits and bobs except that some of the things are insanely exxy. Like the wheels I wanna get are going to come from the land of the Rising Sun... thinking about cheating and getting a loan to pay for them hahah. I've got a Sard Racing pod filter but need to get an adapter made up for it (it's made for the older twin turbo 1J)... that and my HID's are about the only things that are JDM, since my current wheels are AUDM and my JDM-branded MP3 deck is made in China hehehe.
First on the cards though is a Blitz blow off and exhaust system (hopefully can stumble on a nice tax retun payout lol).

Yeah I know hehehe. Guess it's better than trying to buy parts on plastic though :P
