Hey,

Just wondering what you guys think would be a nice and cheap reliable car to buy as a second runaround car.

Was looking at a few EF honda civic hatches/sedans and a few toyota corollas all in the 88/89 models.

I like the EF's cos they have all the power options, windows, steer, aircon. I hear the corolla engines will just last and last and last and last..hehe. I just want a car that can take me from A to B without ever breaking down.

They seem to be ranging from 1k to 2k. I was looking to spend around 1-1.5k, on one that already has rego..hehe. Probably a big ask but I'll see what else I may come across.

Just deleted a few posts in this thread.

Keep it on topic thanks guys. He's specified the need for a car, a price range, and some basic requirements. If you don't have a suggestion that fits the criteria, bugger off to the spam thread in Off Topic.

Have you thought about getting a bike? Can't really go wrong with a CBR 250 rr!

I think they're in the vicinity of $5k these days and seems like a much more economical option than a car.

Also, they're just so damm fun.

As a rider myself, I gotta agree they're a great way to save on fuel and maintenance, and if you're an idiot like me, you'll be lanesplitting all over the place. Gets you there a heck of a lot quicker. :)

Buuut that said, Justified actually mentioned in this thread before the forum backup deleted it; he wants a car because it's for his girlfriend to drive around in. I forgot to mention that in my post above.

I drive a Suzuki Swift from 1994 as a daily driver.
It was very cheap! Got it for 600 € (ca 990 AUD). It has a 3 cylinder engine with 1 litre displacement (I think) so taxes and insurance are cheap too.

I have it over one year now and it never let me down.
And I really abused it by purpose. It even stands almost daily 100 km per day to work over german Autobahn.

Got a Honda Civic 91 ED6.

Air conditioning, Power Steering, Electric windows, Electric mirrors and then engine is smooooooth as. The body is immaculate. Interior is stunningly clean and free of wear and tear.
