J: They are acheived by loads of time, persistance, skill and then some. There are som many that are started and then they realise the size of the job they just cut corners or give up all together. I am hoping for something in the field of the dubs without the covers, really I hope I can stick at it, but with threads like this here and all my pics theres enough inspiration that should keep me going.

When I first saw that pic, I thought.. WOW SO TUCKED!
But then now comparing it to the VDUB bays, EGK20A looks like a mess still!
imo i wouldnt call it a mess, it just looks like a functional car :).
as good as the vdub bays are i prefer something like egk20a
VW = Show car
EGK20 = Race car

Bit harsh calling it a mess, its tops until you look at them VW, where the fark do they put everything!! Its amazing!! But you can see in the EG, the aircon lines, fuse box, battery, terminals, accelerator cable & the brake MC...they must move evrything on teh inside of teh firewall or something...amazing, but if something fuks up, how hard will it be to diagnose!
i dont think he meant mess in that way. but yeh.
vdubs are just insane!

Sorry I didn't mean mess in that way!
I guess it was just an expression.
I have the utmost respect for the amount of work that has gone into EGK20A and her capabilities on the track.
My car is a piece of shit compared to EGK20A :)

Yeah they are the master for sure. I am a member on several international VW forums just for their workmanship. No proper intersest in ever owning a VW (except maybe a beetle)

Come across here again. Absolutely loving looking at any pics of these. have heaps more but not online. I will get to them eventually, just way to many pics to go through to get them.
Been getting into one of my jobs a fair bit lately.
Thought I would add a little bit more info while I have a little time.
Also, I'm guessing none of these guys use their windshield washer at all..? :shock:
Washer bottles live nicely in front of the front wheels secured to the inner wing.
far out those veedubs are amazing :O
i want to know how wire tucks like that are achieved,
what are the secrets people ;)
There aren't exactly secrets, just alot of patience and lateral thinking. Here is a few basic examples of ways to raise the chance of getting a good finish:
- Typical battery in the boot.
- Some guys put the washer bottles in the boot but I believe undr the guard is better.
- The chassis legs are a great hiding place, heat shrink them and its neat and simple.
- Radiator is regular modified with an expansion tank with the filler cap hidden under the slam panel.
- ABS ditched
- Power steering reservoir tucked in the wheel arch.
- coil pack in the car with only maincoil lead coming through.
Although a little secret, paint/colour coding makes certain messy bits look alot cleaner.
Hope this makes things a little clearer. I do have some secrets of my own but will be used on my own personal cars.
im givin big props to the VW boys here thats for sure.
