I love bikes. Had to give up riding when I got the fear (lol). Still have a license though, so maybe one day I'll ride again. In the meantime... Post'em up!

OMG This is totally my thread!! :D

Can't go past the '06/'07 GSX-R 750 for an insane piece of bike.

http://www.cmgonline.com/bikes/models/Suzuki/GSXR750/2006/BigP/2006_GSX-R750_bg.jpg

Looks best in in the satin/gloss black combo though!

Anyway, my other faves include the CBR1000RR Fireblade and the R1 (slightly shorter name eh! ;))

For the record, I reckon the Honda and Yamaha offerings for 2007 all look crap, so I haven't linked those ;)

26-11-06, 05:38 PM
i dunno... did you go to the motorbike show van?
i had the "joy" of working there that day... see i reckon 07 CBR600R what the hot as... those suzi's and kwaka's are but ugly...
and the 07 R1 is ok...

van
26-11-06, 05:43 PM
I was out of the state when the show was on in Melbourne, but I did catch them at Phillip Island, and I wasn't impressed.

Well to be more specific, I love everything about the 07 600RR except for the front. The intake between the headlights really breaks it up for me and it's lost the sharp deadly look that I think it had before. Same applies to the 07 R6, which has done the same thing. The 07 R1 has those massive nostrils on either side of the headlights, and they just look ridiculous. Completely ruined the streamlined look of the previous model. I understand it's all functional, but as far as looks go, no thanks. The R6 and R1 also have those stupid skateboards bolted onto the fairings, and they look ridiculous. Suzuki is my preferred brand in this gen!

xero
26-11-06, 05:54 PM
yeah im with you on the R1... and R6... the R6 from a couple of years ago is my choice...
i dont like the suzi's they are way to bulky for my liking... they look like a motor and a tank stuck together, and some one decided they needed wheels and maybe a seat...
i tried the suzuki at the show and found your really stretched out... not very comfortable...

I used to ride dirt/trail bikes when I was younger....
The old KX60S and later the CR 125s were hella fast for a young kid !!! :D

I dont have a bike lisence......but a few months ago for the first time in almost 10 years I rode my mates bike... ZZR around his block and now I want a bike more than ever.

But no funds for one :(

My mate sold the ZZR and recently bought an Orange ZX-10R !!!!

soooooo hot !!!! black rims with orange ring around the edges of the rim matching the colour of the bike !

13,000 in 5 months?!

People don't do that on cars! hahaha

It's good to see you're getting the most out of it though, do you have a car as well?

van
01-12-06, 09:22 AM
Hahah yeah, I've been going nuts on it. Riding to and from work which is a bit of a hike, and I'm out pretty much every night and weekend on the various twisty rounds around Melbourne.

My girly and I have a MkIV Golf GTI, but she drives that more than I do. It's a fun car and all, but FWD isn't really my idea of an ideal car. I'd like to put a bigger turbo in it and do the exhaust and such, but eh I just don't spend enough time with it to bother.

Before I got into the bikes, I drove a MkIV Supra, hence my presence here at JDMST ;)

Out of the factory it looked like this:

I really regret selling it, but I'm on the hunt for another bike now, most likely going to be one of these: A KTM EXC-R 450 Race Bike:

Thats nothing Speedy, sky's the limit with pushy's, I'm into Downhill MTBiking and your looking at upwards of $2500 for a decent strong bike that will be up to the task. But the roady guys are using pushy's nudging on $30,000 with all the carbon and titanium they use.

This is the bike that my mate has, he's spent more than $15,000 building it, handmade in the U.S.A. its one of the best Downhill bikes money can buy. I am very jealous, its my dream bike

and this is my bike its 'only' worth $4000, but thats more than my current car, until next week that is ;)

only one of its kind in aus, wanna get some new stickier tyres on it (and wider, running a 90 rear atm, hoping to get a 110 on) but otherwise leave it as is and restore it back to factory when im done (broke some fairings when my garage wall fell on it due to truck backing into house)

only had 2500 kms on it when i stared using it, been in my family since new

deff upgrading to 06/07 r6 when i get off my p's next june, cant wait.

its the one at the far right

Garth Ivers
20-12-07, 04:29 PM
no justin, the black one you showed here is 14k man, TOTALLY worth it when you consider the amount of work it takes to strip the fucken things ang paint them... hours of tedium...

also, i decided to do it myself and get the parts form japan, and get mates i know to paint etc so it will take time :) plus its my only mode of transport these days so it will be when my car gets fixed up.

the bike delivered locally and JP is electric + kick, america is elec only. mine is still both as im not going for the 'see thru' look

the reason most of the jap ones are kick only is they remove the big battery (with all the plastics and airbox etc to get that jap see thru look) and replace it with a 'lights only' slim battery, so you need to kick em to start them, pretty mild kick tho, once slow for compression once fast for fire!

plus, theres an appeal to physically kick starting a bike, you have something to do with bring it to life, kind of a special involvement with the machine i suppose

:) i love my bike, and i hate sydney motorist even MORE now im a rider..

KTM Stunt 690

Created by KTM’s chief designer Gerald Kiska, the radical freestyle motorcycle not only looks to the future but is also a two-wheeled expression of today’s urban lifestyle.

Driven by the LC4 tuned for maximum torque at low revs, the Stunt 690 also features a newly developed single-sided swing arm while a whole range of special parts from the unique trick motorcycles come from the current KTM PowerParts catalogue.

Series production of the Stunt 690, which is a playful trade fair expression of the current LC4 generation, is not planned at this point in time, so send your emails to KTM and let them know how you feel about this cool new concept!

They teach you how to ride a bike from the beginning. If you dont know how to ride a manual they teach you. Before you even start the engine they test if you can ride without it on, Which means you push!... if youre ok with that then you start riding. They also put you in the mentality of that you watch out for drivers, not drivers watch out for you. Kind of hazard perception stuff. Pretty easy. Just dont be a drop nuts.

Ive never actually called the bloke but his starting price was $5k. It has been more than a month and he hasnt sold it and its currently sitting on $3.5k.

Would anyone know what could be the reason for this bike not being sold?

How about all the bike enthusiasts here on this forum, any opinions on this bike? A friend of mine is hopefully buying this bike tomorrow so any input will be appreciated.

I had 2 mates fall of their bikes today. 1 died (was a mate back in school) and only just got married back in may. He hit a pole head on, on his mates bike.

The other one went to hospital with a broken toe(was wearing raben slippers), broken right wrist (wasnt wearing gloves) and a concussion.

Not good news to me while im still in the learning process.

Unfortunately when you take a gamble with motorcycle safety the consequences can be serious and/or deadly. Sorry to hear about your friend mate.

(was wearing raben slippers), broken right wrist (wasnt wearing gloves)

if they weren't responsible enough to wear the right protective clothing, they probably weren't riding in the most responsible manner either...

when i see guys riding around in muscle tee's and shorts with thongs on it gives me the shits. its fuckheads like these who crash and keep the insurance premiums going up and up and up cos theyre 'too hot' to wear the right gear.

when will people understand that motorbikes are dangerous...

Yeah, sorry to hear about the loss of your friend.

Were they seperate incidents or the same?

I won't make any comment about your friend who was wearing Rabens and no gloves.. don't think anything needs to be said really

i dont see how gloves will stop a broken wrist.....yes it will be saving your skin but if youre falling hard enough gloves or no gloves wont save your bones, or am i off base?

danielb
31-12-08, 11:43 AM
Some of the better gloves are actually gauntlets and brace your wrist to help prevent it from occuring, in the same way boots provide ankle protection

Obviously if you hit something hard enough nothing will save you, but you'd still want the best chance you can get of preventing injury right?

ianmallee
31-12-08, 11:48 AM
yeah im just thinking of my gloves and theres next to no actual wrist support in terms of saving from a break

Well i just bought a pair of Shift SR-1 gloves yesterday from Sydney City, they offer good protection for about $100 (on sale).
I was planning on getting the A* SP2 gloves, but I found that the Shift offered more protection for the same price, and was a much better fit.

Fatal accident - was somewhere in livo, im not too sure on the exact location.

I do think the same way aswell, although him and another friend just installed a slip-on yoshi pipe to his exhaust, just got his bike registered today aswell. Took it for a spin while his mate was waiting at his house and this happened on the way back home. I couldnt even look at the bike, the front end was completely gone, both tacho's flew off the bike too.

The Fatal accident happened in Merrylands, infront of Merrylands Budget Exhaust. Just got the update now. Maybe someone who drive past has seen it?

He works at the exhaust shop. Put an exhaust pipe on his mates bike, took it for a spin, he doesnt have much experience with bikes, and he went head first into a pole.

dude, just cause you think your a responsible rider, doesn't mean that the drunk monkey in the cage who didn't happen to see the red light at the next intersection can't take you out.

Exactly. Its not you, its everyone else.

And IF you survive a fall, what are you going to be saying while they tweezer gravel out of your wounds? "Damn I wish I'd been wearing my jacket" lol :p

Sorry but in my opinion, riding without adequate safety gear is not riding responsibly.

Hi guys,

Can you someone tell me where I can get these in Sydney? Because my uncle from HK wants to buy these on Ebay and shipping cost about 30 something USD to HK.

I want to know if its cheaper to buy it in Sydney than Ebay?

He wants all of them for his R1

Thanks!

anyone have much experience with bike luggage?

I'm riding a ninja & not looking for anything massive - somewhere around 10-20L?
-going to be removed alot (at least twice a day)
-needs to be fairly sturdy
-preferable waterproff

So i was thinking a magnetic tank bag?
Can anyone reccomend a model or shop to browse

ianmallee
04-02-09, 02:55 PM
magnetic tank bags the best
i have one on my cbr1000rr which i use everyday...magnets are strong enough without hooks

go to mcas parra and look for motodry brand
the one i have has 2 compartments
the bottom one i use for my wet gear and the top one plenty of room for lunchboxes etc

you can look at the seat bags but theyre pretty annoying to take on and off everyday and are considerably smaller

yeah thats what i was thinking to be honest.
with magnetic i can just yank it off the tank

Reviving an old thread...

Waterproof bike covers: Does anyone use one?

Any that you would recommend or anything specific to look for...?

I've heard not all are 100% waterproof and some are meant to be breathable...

I am thinking of getting another bike but it will be parked outside so a proper cover that works is a must...

Hey mate when i used to park my bike outside i used a Oxford Rainex bike cover. Costs around $70+ or so, its quite good. It has tied down points if you wanna attach a chain to your bike and has a strap at the belly pan point so it stays secure in the wind etc.
It kept the rain out when parked outside havent used in the heavy rain yet, cause i now park the bike inside.
