View Full Version : [Syd] JDMST, rodent needs your support!

So, as some of you may know I run a Gloria Jean's store in the city. Well, I used to run it but slowly moving on now...

Anyhoo a few months back I decided to get involved in the GJ's Australian Barista Championship (http://www.gloriajeanscoffees.com.au/baristadiamond/barista-championship.asp) just to see how far I could go. For some reason I kept getting through to the next round and now I'm soiling myself just a little cos I'm in the Australian grand final, going against 3 other baristi for the national title.

Some of you may have even spotted my column in mX (http://www.flickr.com/photos/jonno/2351128024/sizes/l/) a few weeks back

The competition is happening next Wednesday and I need all the support I can get! So JDMST'ers, if you're working or hanging around the CBD next Wednesday morning and have some time to spare, please drop by Martin Pl and cheer for Team Jonno!

Details are as follows:
Location: Somewhere in the middle of Martin Pl. There'll be GJ's stuff all over the place so you can't miss it.
Date: Wednesday 26th March (this coming Wednesday!)
Time: Competition kicks off at 9am but there's a few guys on before me - I get to do my thang at 11-11:30am

If you'd like a read of the rules to see what's involved in the competition, click here (http://www.gloriajeanscoffees.com.au/baristadiamond/barista-championship.asp) and scroll down to "Australian Final" (ignore the incorrect date on that page)

Thanks for the support guys! Hope to see some of youse there (come around and say hello afterwards as well!)

P.S. Let's keep this thread purely about the event itself please. Comments about GJ's or anything you may have heard/read about it lately will be ignored as I don't know much about any of that stuff.

MASSIVE THANKS to all who came by and said hello/good luck yesterday. It was an incredible sight seeing so many people watching on while I was doing my thing, I just kinda froze and said "oh, hello!" Apologies for not having it all together and doing a big shoutout to you all though, it was a little overwhelming.

So the winners were announced and I came third, which I am perfectly happy with especially since it's my first time ever doing the comp. Got this snazzy coffee tamper thing as a prize in case you were wondering =P

This whole journey has been fun, but I'm glad it's all over. Back to life as usual now - hope to catch up with youse at the EOMM!

24-04-08, 02:34 AM

So I get this phone call from GJ's yesterday, telling me I still need to pick something up :???:
Scoot over to head office kinda confused and then they hand me this box:

Turns out I've also won a Brugnetti Simona Top machine. Single gruppe, programmable heat exchanger design. Retails at $1700.

I guess at this point I really should say something to the effect of "THANK YOU GLORIA JEAN'S COFFEES!! :D"
That really was a nice surprise.

Problem is now I gotta save up $800 to get myself a Mazzer Mini (http://coffeegeek.com/proreviews/detailed/mazzermini) - the only 'home' grinder worthy of this machine . Maybe I should just start a coffee thread, at least it won't be as random as some threads round here lately...
