Me and my NSR,

I always liked bikes but was always to scared/lazy to get my license and actually ride, I started considering it when I sold my 4AGTE AE86, but instead invested in camera gear, I always liked the NSR150SP, I love the look, the size is great for a first bike, and I like 2 stroke (Much to main peoples dismay "Oh no rebuild every week" "oh smoke out everywhere" "so powerful on power band you'll fly off" and all that crap.) I still think its the best LAMS "Sports Bike" for the money and age. pick of the LAMS is the RVF400 my mate has one, its a fucking ripper, but they are expensive but worth if you keep it after the LAMS period. the RS125 Aprilia's are bloody nice too. for some reason I don't like 250cc 4 stroke 4 cylinders, my brother has a CBR250RR and when I ride that I don't enjoy it at all, they are old and heavy, they are faster top end (by about 5 mph over the 1/4 mile) and will cut a slightly faster time) but I think they a pigs to ride.

So anyway after my initial love of the NSR150SP I still did nothing more than sit on one at the dealer. so fast forward 6 months and my mates brother turns up on his. I feel in love again, I rode it slowly around the car park and said to myself I had to get one now. so two weeks later I had a 9/2001 model NSR stock as sitting in my driveway :D

Riding at first on the road was scary as, you've done it all before but now it's totally different. so it was a bit to get used too, I ride everyday now, I still have my Corolla but the NSR is my main form of transport. When I first rode (stock) I gave it a hit, if I went flat in first and second I thought I was gunna fly off the back, but as you do you practice and get better, then the bike starts to feel very very slow. In stock form my NSR hit a "brick wall" at 10000rpm (11000 redline) a serious drop off in power. they also sound very weak in standard form. something had to be done. so after looking at my friends bike I decided to order an aftermarket expansion chamber and silencer from http://www.tyga-performance.com It arrived from thailand in under one week and Tommo and I installed easily in one morning. the difference was amazing, it revved better sounded heaps better and the top end was there, revved right up to and past the 11000rpm redline. It cost about $230, it replaced the whole factory system, it's much lighter too. on the dyno I got 32rwhp and ran a 14.6 @ 87mph (gearing sucks for high speed stuff :P) at WSID with a 2.1 60" time.

Since then I got used to the power too quickly and really got bored with the bike, but then I realised it wasn't the bike it was me, I wasn't riding it to its ability. now that I can ride it better It's alot more fun.

Last night I just installed a Race CDI from Tyga-Performance. it replaces the standard CDI and gives it more aggressive maps, the difference is amazing, more midrange, better top end, the bike revs quicker and smoother too. I'll have it on the dyno on saturday to check everything, re-jetting the carb is a possibility if is needed and will get more power, for now its ok as it's not pinging at all. then once everything is checked out and giving the ok, I'll be at WSID ASAP, I would like to run a low 14, anything under 14.5 I'll be happy with but the quicker the better.

The Future ?

There are plenty of possibilities for this bike unfortunately I can't justify to go any further. I can get a better cylinder head that will up the compression and also a better carb to flow more, but for the money I think I'd rather keep it to go towards my next bike K7 GSX-R600. The NSR will see wakefield in Feb so lap times will be interesting, I'm not expecting much as I really do not want to push it so hard as to risk dropping the bike.

Ok that went long than expected, but I'm bored, thanks for reading. :)

Always liked the NSR150 and Aprilla RS125 over the bigger bikes too.
But never got around to choosing one because of the fact of still being afriad to get my lisense!

=(

Haha

Yeah I love the 2 strokes as first bikes too, great to learn on, nothing can really go wrong either and if it does its cheap to fix, I just make sure I use good oil and fuel.

Don't be scared, do it, you won't look back :)

I love bikes. I used to compete in downhill mountain bike competitions and a motorbike was a natural progression... or so I thought. A couple of near death experiences (well... not really but fuck did I shit my pants or what?!) was enough to make me give up (I had 2 bikes, one shitter which I won't even mention and one Yamaha SRV250, lovely classic shape).

Lovely bike Ben, pics too.

PS: van. I LOVE the Evil logo!

Yeah that was a 9000rpm launch and quick on the clutch.

My mate can wheelie my bike by re clutching it, but he has been riding for years and I'm not game enough to try. The front does get light going into second thanks to the extra power the CDI gave it :D So I'm hanging to get back to the Drags asap, then I'll service the front suspension and brakes in time for Wakefield in feb

good stuff, yeh iv heard about the reclutching. shit im not even game enough to open the throttle past 1/5th on my dads gixxer.
couple months back overseas i was riding a little 125 honda similar to our posties but this had a clutch. man that thing was fun. full throttle down the backstreets hitting 70 easy hahah almost flatshifting. clutch was pretty gone tho:S i was on the gas to early you could here it slipping till it grabed.

i was also riding a 4wheeler offrad thing, i managed to blow the gearbox. woops.... having to much fun offroad downshifted to early and bye bye gearbox:( their fault for not having a tacho:)

but now all i got on two wheels to ride is a pocket bike which needs a new carbie.

I modded the bike in a different way this afternoon, I gave it some nice marks down the side, we think the box may have given way, the rear wheel locked and sent me and bike down the road at 80kph, I have a few marks and cuts and the bike has some damage, but I'm ok and the bike is fixable.

Hey Mate, your one sounds like a ripper, I'd love to go nuts on it also, but I'd rather save for my Gixxer 600.

I use Motul 800 and BP Ultimate (98ron), I think the CDI may have killed it as it was untuned  oh well we live (thankfully) and learn...
