I've always thought a f&ck-around car would be awesome...just something to tink with...i guess at the end of the day the same question remains...what do you want it for?

Get you to the station and back...bit of bush bashing on the weekends? Sure no problems! Project car! Definately! Obviously you're not getting a luxurious/performance car so lets not go there.

My idea has always been to buy one for a track day...spend $200 on oil, tyres or whatever to get it up to speed and then use it as a control car. Get everyone to punt around a track in it and see who can wring out the fastest time in it! It's an equal (if sh!t) platform that everyone can have a thrash in...and the winner can take the car, or ceremoniously burn it...

Lol - me and my mate are actually currently doing up an AUDM 1982 (old as me!) Toyota Corolla. Bought it for $300. We are whacking a Hilux engine (paid $100) into it with custom mounts and we are thinking about grabbing a custom ebay crap turbo kit for it.

Whole thing has cost us about $500 so far and we are having a lot of fun. Cut the whole front end out of it and everything. Bush basher with oversize radiator ftw.... :)

Carsales seems to have exxy cars. A few to be had with some rego on it for about $1k... $500 with rego for 6 months would be great!

A much better possibility is a motorkhana car. My car club did this a few yrs ago, we got an old late 70's Civic, and basically everyone donated a few things like oil filters, duct tape :) etc and in the end we had a driveable car. So overall cost was free.

It was then entered in motorkhanas as a "club" car, for any member to use. It lasted for quite a long time :D

Cheap cars are best found on the side of the road! Cannt go past KE55s / KE70s / Coronas, etc :P Old charades, barinas, Pulsars are all worthy too if u dont care if its FWD/RWD :P

corona FTW!! guys i know are on thier 2nd one.. they have had the 2.4L ones with the IRS in the rear. Been using them as hack/thrash/drift cars. Spray can matte black spray job and ryobi tuned suspension aswell :P

I have a old suzuki sweift as a daily car. I bought it for around 600 € mroe then one year ago. Originaly it was just thought to drive it a half year because I changed my working office for that time and tehre was no train connection. But it staid intact until now and I guess I will keep it. Uses around 5 litre gas on 100km, low insurance and low taxes (0,9l engine). So what do you want more?

Yeah, I had a Suby Leone for a little while. Put around $200 towards it (for new tyres... all four of them hahahah) and needed a little bit of exterior TLC (which was fixed with a sanding block, bog and spray cans) but the engine was an absolute champ, never missed a beat, gearbox was still in good nick, working (and still cold) aircon and tape deck :lol:

All up the car cost me $300! Until it got hell vandalised :( I miss that car. Got me from Botany to Burwood on empty, doot doot!!!
