That's 1 very clean MR2 you got there! Love it. Is it rather rare to have MR2 in UK?? Because my impression of UK is constant wet and cloudy, hence 4wd is more popular.

Luv the idea of a MR2 family at your own house :)

There's quite a few VTEC fans on JDMST, not sure too many of them would instantly respect, appreciate, or take interest in someone new walking up to them and saying "Hi my names ntensity and I drive a V-tec killer!!!" but I'm sure most will take it as tounge in cheek. Right?!

I have a few apples and oranges that you can compare?

I wouldn't say a stock MR2 is anything to frighten most Type R's out there.

Plus you forget the NSX-R... That's a midship rear like your MR2's. Gonna kill that?

Sure, I might like 'vtec yo' but yeah, i mean, it doesnt sound as cool as

"VVTL-i yo"

Nice looking Toyodas but.
I was hoping you had a clean AW11 in your nest.

lol dont take the v-tec thing seriously...its just being oriental myself I find that its a very stereotypical thing to see other orientals in London driving Honda's.
They always natter on about revving the nuts off their v-tecs and its quite amusing, id thought u guys can take a joke ;) sorry if it hurt anyones feelings...

I myself do like the DC5 ITR...*wouldnt mind one in fact*

NSX's are rare...I dont think ive ever seen one on the road before, only at events and jap shows.

Luc - a 3sGTE would destroy any Type R out there...unless its turbocharged...

DOnt take it the wrong way I think its the CTR drivers here that kind of think they have the ultimate machine on road when its not.

Subaru Impreza's are very common here now these days...yes RWD's are more rare but in the wet they can get twitchy...thats the fun of it right?

MR2's are nice but I want a R34 GTR :)

Welcome to the club, I'm an MR2 driver myself.. But moving onto bigger better, noisier things soon.. hmmmmm rotary!

GEN III mr2 is a match for the nsx :D

Both run 13's stock so whats wrong with that

Yes the NSX is better, but only becuase Honda pumped in more $$$

The MR2 is a consumer car for road where as the NSX is for the Racer or for the street poser within. but buy a base GTS say for 35k-45k when new vs a 150k nsx.. and spend about 10k on mods on the 2 The nsx will be l

Left behind in most cases and you have $$ left over 8)

Remember most Honda R's are highly tuned from factory and there's very little todo when you open it up. E.g the Tolerences are so tight as they are already worked. Thats the reason why their pretty quick in stock trim. But if you were to take that level of tuning on any other motor in the same class. it would be the same.. Honda has made this easier on all the wannabe racers and tuned the motors to perfection like a home made meal.

Thanks to Honda they've set the benchmark in todays engines with lift capable motors etc. They weren't affraid to take the plunge and race technology into street cars where every had the theory but didnt have the balls todo so along time ago..

Luc u forgot the s2000 lol...

No seriously...imo the NSX is a little slow for such a large and expensive car...Yes they are rare and unique but why not just get a supra TT?

Both 3.0l..aint my fault Honda's dont do turbos.

Just curious though...how fast are NSX's? From what I hear they aint actually that much quicker...just more ummm...torquier?

S2000 is FR, has a 2 litre na engine. Just recently they brought out the F22C, which is a 2.2 litre, same hp, 6% more torque... lower redline.

Sounds kinda silly. As for an NSX. 0-100 in 5.5 seconds.

206kw *ahem* 298nm of torque. 3.2 litre V6 engine.

car weighs 1,390

btw, I know its a bit stupid to compare an MR2 to a supercar, but still... you wanted to compare a MR Turbo Four to an FF N/A hehe

those MR2's do go quick though.
The Japanese MR2 GT model did 0-100 km/h in 5.9 to 6.2 s.

You scared me there!! I thought u meant the NSX does 0-100MPH in 5.5 seconds!!!
The times u supplied are for the rev1 & 2 models.

There are 5 revisions for the MR2...rev3+ turbo's 0-62 (0-100km/h) is 5.2 /5 .3 seconds...official times...

Reason being is that the rev3 pushes 20/30bhp more than the rev1/2 and has a different turbo. You would notice cosmetic interior and exterior differences as well. This goes the same for the N/A except that the 0-60mph on a rev1 is quicker due to no power steering or air con goodies. My m8 has an s2k and when he sat in my car he was suprised and never realised the rev3 MR2's were so quick.

However I think if the I took the MR2 rev5 BEAMS engine and compared to a s2000 it would be more correct. The BEAMS engine is a rare toyota engine which they released for the last few units of production and can be found in Altezza IS200's and they are 200bhp 2.0l vvti . They weigh less than a 3sGTE and apparantly can keep up with a rev1 turbo which is around 5.7- - 5.9.

Never the less... its funny how u can turbo a v-tec but cant v-tec a turbo....gr8 NA engines i tell u...but isnt modding Honda's very limited?

Actually, HKS makes something that might interest you. Whilst it isn't an actual modified cam that has a VTEC lobe, check this out.

Torquier? from stock yes..

Mines still stock ;)

The 3SGTE puts out 310Nm of torque from its 2.0L in stock form on a GEN II running 7-10psi, later model upto 350Nm on 12psi and Gen IV runs upto 380-390NM.

It's a smaller engine with only intake manifold changes and compression and high capable.. It did get banend from the WRC a few years ago

Also the MR2 is heavier then an s15 and weighs in about 1290-1340KG depending on trim.

Sure it's not as hot looking or reputable as an NSX their on totally different classes.. the NSX is a supercar beater, where the MR2 is just a Toy

It would be fair now I say. Alot of those V8 Supercars are making alot of power these days 500-800HP in excess. and V8's are more reilable too..
Question is - How many turbos/engines would a GTR have to go through to keep up. The Nissan had its fair share of dramas back then too. But you have to remember its AUSSIE V8 Class - Ford VS HOLDEN so the Nissan is out of the question.

and the toyota mr is very light, plus the advantage of forced induction... either way, they both have advantages. equally good cars, but built way different!

project2
11-10-06, 07:01 PM
I wouldn't say its very light.. it still weighs in heavier then an S15 silvia at 1280KG base model GTS and GT (leather trim etc) weighs in at 1360/80KG not to mention the targa top + glass weighs more

very nice ride there man!

LOL @ everyone paying out different cars. Also funny how everyones comparing straight line, and 0-100 times. Is a track straight? Is a straight line fun?

why is everyone comparing prices. Toyota is the best selling car because their cars are affordable. Doesn't mean they have been engineered the best. But every car has their ups and down... even my beloved ITR. End of the day none of us are driving supercars. So everyone take a chill pill.

Regardless... love your car man! Looks hot!

I bet to differ, toyota may not be the most advance but they sure last the distance..... but then again its how well you treat your car

VTECMACHINE

That quote was actually exactly what my friend with a Toyota said the other day. So I just regurgitated what he said.

But yes they do last the distance... very well. A great example is the echo/yaris! The dominos echo has been running with out oil for quite some time now... and it goes well. We'll see how well it goes when the owner turbo it. :)

Never the less... its funny how u can turbo a v-tec but cant v-tec a turbo....gr8 NA engines i tell u...but isnt modding Honda's very limited?

Only because there's a solid aftermarket in turbocharging NA engines. Given how much it would cost to engineer such a system in the aftermarket vs turbocharging, its just not worth it. NA tuning is perfect for people who want to spend a shitload of money and get relatively minor results.

There's nothing technically stopping you from adding a VTEC-type system to a turbocharged car - just good luck finding an aftermarket one.

And running big cam overlap is not suited for FI, so at a certain point most of those big turbo Honda cars end up disabling their VTEC systems anyway.
