Operation Phoenix - our neglected NA6

So i just got back from getting some new tyres fitted to our NA6 MX-5.
This thing is a real nugget, mechanically its ok, aside from knackered shocks and brakes (more on that later) Cosmetically, its rough as. When i was first introduced to the car about 7 years ago, it was the then GF's first car. One owner job, in good nick.

Well, over the last 7 years or so she has managed to bash doors on poles, smack rear 3/4 panel on shopping centre bollard and smash drivers front guard into her dads work ute bull bar, as well as a veritable horde of other hits, scrape, bumps and scratches. Last weekend i decided to give it a little clean up, and you wouldnt beleive the amount of junk in the boot, under the seats, behind the seats etc. found about 13 pairs of shoes and stacks of CDs (all sans covers of course), and about a kilo of dirt / gravel in the boot! WTF...... anyway, was checking out the tyres (never having given it much thought before) and noted they were rock hard china specials with very little rubber left, very unsafe so i decide i am going to get some 1/2 decent tyres fitted.

So she takes my F6 to the hairdressers this morning (a major worry), and i take this heap of shite down to Talebs....anyway, driving the thing turns out to be quite enjoyable, bolt action gear box and a light flywheel, and no power whatsoever...but that doesnt really matter. Its such a simple and faithful little car it cant help but put a smile on the face as the wimpy 1.6 revs its guts out time after time whilst giving nary a hint of a push in the back

So then i think, i wonder last time this thing was serviced? check the oil and then wish i hadnt. So, drop in to supercheap and pick up some stuff to give it a service......then i get thinking i might look for some new shocks, and some better pads.....oh, and i could fix up the scuttle shake with some bracing...then the Mrs can take it out to a skid pan day or WP like she has always wanted.

moral of the story = crappy cars can be fun

i wont spend much money i promise

Stan, no not that one, however this one has been with us for a long time......just kept it quiet as its a shit heap

Yes, got rid of my good white one last December. At that time we had 2 MX-5s and a Typhoon...now just the NA6 and Typhoon. The MX-5 is her daily driver and has been for years. Certainly wont be going too far with this....just gonna fix it up a little, maybe some new dampers and springs, thats all.
