Hey mate, need some advice on cleaning my car. I'm gonna wax/wash/whatever it this weekend to get it looking nice for an upcoming cruise...

The paint on my roof is starting to go a bit dodgy... How can I make that look better? Also, some nice person decided to scrape my car while parked at the shopping center a few months back. Just above my rear wheel arche I have some fairly deep scratches, but also yellow paint from the car.. How can I remove as much of the paint as possible?

    Thanks for the help mate!

For the bonnet (im assuming its fading) and paint scuff you will need to give it a hit with an abrasive polish.

Do this before you apply the wax.

Grab an abrasive polish from your local auto store. I would recommend something like Meguiars Ultimate compound. Dont get scratch x or swirl x cos these wont do much for scuff marks and faded paints.

If your polishing by hand then you will be able to get away with just using Megs ultimate compound. If your doing it by machine then I would recommend following it up with Megs Swirl X to remove any buffer trails left from the compound.

I would also recommend claying the car after your wash. this wil make polishing and waxing alot more easier and will add to the finish aswell.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers

Any lambswool or microfibre wash mitt will do.

just make sure you give it a rinse after each wash and hang it indoors to dry.

And what about all those stubborn bug entrails and intestines that I gather on my late night "fun" drives...

I was looking at the Bosch Orbital Buffer today, $100 on special

I was also told that to use it to polish, Id need a special fitting to put the pads on, we get a detail whole seller at work for the detailers. He sells mainly 3M stuff?..

Is any of this stuff any good or should I stick to Meguiars

Also, what products best cleans off previous waxes for a new polish?...

ATM, I wash the car with a bug remover (gets the white car clean faster) pad, then just chamois

If I were to fully detail the outside of my car would this be the correct order: wash, clay bar, wash, dewax, cut, swirl remover, polish, sealant or wax?

Thanks heaps for the help thus far
    John
