yeah they're pretty obnoxious, thats probably why I couldn't say no to the design once i found it as compared to just the straight red, white or black options..
I shall be heading over to NZ for a week early August for the snow season, will be the first time snowboarding so it shall be interesting, Probably going to buy some gear over there cause or dollar is stronger over there.
Any gear I should look out for thats fairly decent? If not any tips to help my lack of skills![]()
First time at the snow as well? I'd hold off on buying any gear other than beanie/gloves/pants/jacket. Go for whatever is cheap, but I'd buy from the US/Canada (sierrasnowboard.com etc.) cause it will be a lot cheaper as they're out of season. No sales during season in NZ normally. Occasionally some stuff they want to get rid of thats a few seasons old. But go for looks and comfort over brandnames![]()
You'll look like a douche tricked out in the latest gear, bindings, board etc. and you can't move in a straight line for more than 10m before falling over.
Tips for snowboarding, take lessons. Seriously. Everyday if you can afford it. Don't throw your hands out when you stack it, hands out = broken something.
Listen to this. If your friends promise to teach you - they are lying. They wont have the patience or the training that an instructor will have, and chances are they'll just fuck off up the mountain and leave you to teach yourself after the first day. It's much better (and not that much more expensive) to get first timer lessons.
If it was my first time boarding I'd probably only buy a jacket/gloves/pants (it's much more hygienic than borrowing/hiring, and you'll have gear that fits you properly)
I've been lurking on ebay/sierra snow for the last 3 months, here's all the swag I've accumulated:
Sierra Crew board 156CM
2010 Burton Custom Bindings (I really wanted white bindings, but these grey ones went for cheap)
Oakley Wisdom
2009 Burton Rulers
Bonfire Arc jacket
Sessions Achilles pants
Altogether, the total cost was around $600 (with shipping included)
I'll be a technicolour mess as far as fashion is concerned, but considering I bought all of my gear for the same price that SDS sells a single snowboard - I'm extremely happy.

Burton boots and oakley goggles NEVER fit me :S always slightly off.
Let me know how the board goes. I was looking at one, but I wanna get more feedback before I get one as my 'if my main breaks' board.
The goggles are "Asian fit" (lol), so they're a little narrower than regular goggles.
I went to STM board store in Parramatta to try on some boots before I started looking. I'm usually a size 9, but I had to buy these in 9.5 because they were a little tight.
I sold my 06 Burton clash for $200 on ebay, so all I had to pay for was shipping on the boots and board![]()
Just had a look on that Sierra Snow, holy crap what a awesome cheap-ish site! haha![]()
Might just get some decent goggles and maybe gloves for the time being.
DAMMIT haha! There any places locally with any decent stuff?
Rebel Sport and Anaconda usually have some alright gear.
You're looking at about ~$200 for a jacket, ~$100 for pants and ~$50 for basic goggles locally though.
Have a look on ebay and see what you find, most U.S. ebay sellers ship to Australia and it's nearing summer over there.
Has anyone road a 'yes' typo? And is anyone interested in a burton blunt? http://forum.jdmstyletuning.com/show...680#post690680
my yearly trip to the snow gets delayed this year since I miss out on the Aussie winter but on the plus side I get to experience the snow in Japan at the end of the year...now how to get my board over?
ESPN did an awesome interview with the man with the biggest chin in snowboarding J.P. Walker!! Great read, tons of photos and a vid too.

To get some of my stuff to Canada i found Pack and Send Oversize baggage the cheapest.
