If they are insulated you should be cool with just a base layer underneath. Down to -10 you should be fine with a base layer if the pants are insualted. Just don't spend too much time sitting in the snow and you won't have any issues.
But it's all just personal preference really. I prefer to be a little cool temp wise as compared to too hot when I'm out.
booked hotham today, never seen snow before so should be awesome.
August 5th to 10th, hope there is still snow around.
Yeh i'm gee'd up to Brasher, going to NZ for the first time and it'll be the first time out on the snow should be memorible![]()
should be sweet around then brash![]()
I've got a couple of pairs of thermals now. Great for the colder days.
Same with socks always worn proper snowboard ones. They have hardly any on Sierra in "normal" sizes atm
August 5th is right in the middle of the peak there's snow up to Sept some years.

In regards to thermals I got mine from Kathmandu and they're fine for me, can't wait for winter here in Japan! I have to start making contacts to find students who work at the resorts to get free lift passes haha
I've already got some katmandu thermals for work ill probably just use them, I have a mate that alternates between canada, US and NZ teaching snowboarding, I envy him lol
haha yea I met a few guys like that when I was in NZ, go there to work and snowboard then back to the states or Canada when it's their snow season
+2 On Dakine, all their materials they use are top notch, ive got an '10 Pilot and its a bloody brilliant bag, theres a place for everything. Its got steel cable running through the front of the pag to be used to pull out and wrap around your bindings to carry your board. Theres a strap for a snow shovel too.
Im going to give thin gloves a go this year with my tough goretex mittens, v/high waterproof rating, as opposed to thicker gloves which i need to take off every time i hit the bottom of a run because they drench my hands in sweat.
Has anyone Ride MT Ruapehu ? whats it like?
thinking i might hit it up for 5 days just need your oppinions
Hmm got rang up today and offered free accomodation for opening weekend, which means Im kinda fucked as all my gear is missing except for board, boots and bindings.
Anyone know some good websites to grab some cheaper stuff in aus? Not sierra or the likes cause I have to get this stuff in a weeks time and our local snow places have all upped they're prices to about $500 for just a jacket... dont care if its last years gear.
So stuck right now... :S
