offset is the distance between the mounting surface of the wheel to the exact centre of the wheel. so if you have a 0 offset it means that the mounting surface of the wheel is exactly in the middle. A possible offset of +40 means that it is 40mm outwards from the centre. A negative offset of -40 means that it is 40mm inwards from the centre. have a look on www.tirerack.com for a diagram.

    hmmm okay
so reading that link (v. informative, thanks) i apear to be running like...zero offset.
but the design looks so fail because the spokes/design make it look like it has huge inset, becuase of the wierd hub thing pushing the spoked face out a whole ton.. but the actual mounting face is right in the middle.
looking at the pic can you guys see what i mean, am i right?

edit: needs moar simmons OM series or old school BBS, any other suggestions welcome

Clutch monkey, that's correct. Without being to measure up the wheel itself, no-one could give a definitive answer regarding offset. However, you are correct in that you are sacrificing dish/concavity whilst the face of the rim is so far outward of the mounting surface.
