    Annoying ticking rear left-ish.

The ticking appears to happen once per rotation and will occur no matter how fast or slow the car is going
Checked everything for scrubbing and leaks/movement. All seems fine. Checked for stones or nails stuck in the tread but found nothing. At really low speeds in an enclosed car park it can be heard however it becomes more of a shhhck, shhck rather then a tick. Rear brake pads are low. Diff is a leaking a little, but is topped up regularly.
I also tried move the wheels laterally and there is no movement -bearings seem fine, any more ways to check?

    Thanks.

    handbrake shoes?
    rear discs warped?
    rear pads worn unevenly?
    rear calipers not disengaging properly?

rotors are warped, your pads are waring on an angle I assume, and its a high pitched ring/swiping noise.

    Time to upgrade!

Thats comforting. I knew my rear brakes had pretty much had it. I was just worried it could be a CV thing or a bearing issue. It only makes the swiping noise at VERY low speeds and I don't get any peddle fluctuations or cabin vibrations under braking.

Is it dodgy redrilling r33 discs for four stud s13s? Does it compromise the strength of the discs much? Has anybody heard of it going bad under temperature or cooling perhaps?

redrilling is fine if done properly, doesnt compromised the strength, discs are generally a little loose anyway, the loads are not on the studs as the brake disc hat is clamped between the wheel and hub, and as long as its the same size bore, it will be centred correctly.

check that the dust shield isnt rubbing on the back of the rotor.. that sometimes makes noise also.

Good tip, will have a look tomorrow. Totally forgot about the fact that the discs are clamped there. It would be easy to drill if you just bolt them back to back through one hole making sure its lined up and keep adding bolts as you go.
