i wouldnt be cutting or welding anything if you weren't qualified or had the correct tools to do them .. its a lot harder then it looks .. irregular welding , unbalanced wheels and warping are only some of the things that could go wrong .
very obviously i wouldn't be doing this myself :S
i wouldn't mind buying some cheapass rims and trying them first and then work on my own wheels. i would probably go to some pro welder to get the job done.
Try ozwheels in minchinbury, they do it... Sorry i don't have contact info...
6/8 Purdy Street. Owner's name is Peter, PM me for his mobile. I paid $160/wheel for rebarreling (15x8).
I asked around other places too including Morton & May, as well as Neales Wheels (South Strathfield and Circle Track Wheels (Seven Hills) Custom offset. They all quoted a little cheaper than OZwheels (cheapest @ $140/wheel) but only Peter was willing to give me a very thorough rundown of what's involved. Also gave me a quick tour of his workshop too (back when he was at St Marys). He makes custom multi-piece wheels too. Turn-around time was exactly one week.
I looked into it a while ago but it was going to end up costing enough that it wasn't really worth it for me .
I was getting new step barrels though, I think they cost more (to make the wheels go up a size).
