That has the be the worst post I've read on jdmst, ever!**WARNING LOST POST =P**
I owned a honda integra and got bored of it quickly after i was able to experience just how a turbo car felt, it was fun while i had it and i didnt dislike the manufacturer then but the reason why i do dislike it now would probably boil down to the attitude of the drivers that own them more so then the fact they are NA and its hard to pull power or torque outa them. I didnt bother throwing money into the teg when i had it as i couldnt really justify throwing money into a daily driver that i knew i was gonna sell to scratch an itch i had about the cars handling and power. I just dont believe its worth it unless your really dead set on using it as a weekend track car or something and you've modded it right. Its the attitudes of the honda drivers ( not saying other cars dont either, honestly believe its due to the P plate regulations ) that put me off Honda, however if i found a nice s2000 believe me i wouldnt turn down the opportunity of buying it its a fun car =). I also believe due to its popularity, parts and replica parts and fakes are so common and cheap which make them such a popular p plater legal car to start out on and modify, and in a sense i reckon thats also partially a downfall of why some people like myself might have disliked honda. Im sure the people that dislike hondas now, can still appreciate a well modded honda with money spent in the right areas where its needed and subtle exterior mods to make it look clean, im all fine with that, i can appreciate a car done right and the effort put into it to make it the way it is, it deserves recognition but i honestly hate how theres some honda owners (the affordable ones =P ) decide to follow the JDM bandwagon, buy some fake parts or replica parts that look like the real thing and just go around flaunting it about and how JDM it is whilst being ignorant to the entire fact that they have bought fake/replica parts that dont help the car handle any better or the engine to breathe any better and respond to constructive criticism with the term "hater"..... seems to be used so much nowadays. Thats the type of attitude that puts me away from honda, i wont say that other drivers of different car manufacturers dont do the same in terms of rims, but i believe i see less of it due to the fact that since they arent as popular there just isnt much stuff to do with them ( regarding p plater legal cars since its mainly p platers that put me off, i hope i dont see some old full license dude acting this way though... ) for example take an NA s13, exterior subtle mods since im excluding the use of body kits since every cars prob got dif body kits available but in terms of trying to do suble mods, you have the aero look.. bumper, skirts and rear pods.... not much for you to do in those cars other than handling mods and "light" engine upgrades.
Other reasons as to why some people including myself might not like hondas could possibly be as dreadangel has outlined, is of the honda owners attitude and infatuation with vtec.. I for one dont mind the sound of vtec when the crossover and tone is nice and deep, i hate the tin can raspy sound of some exhausts or cannons that some owners put on their hondas, i do like NA, but personally now with all the hondas around id get a corolla =P, mate has an old one, and i actually find it fun to drive haha. Oh right and the FF layout, i guess due to the increase in drift scene theres more people using FF as a reason to bag out honda, i do prefer FR layours or even MR layouts over FF but thats all FF overall not just honda, i just find it more fun to drive and i personally believe it it teaches more or requires more technique and skill to push to the limits around a corner than an FF car but thats just me. Im not a fan of drifting either incase something reading this thinks "this douche just an FR fanboy who wants to drift" i do find drifting interesting to watch and have some friends who genuinely into it and go to tracks etc to do so, but me personally i like grip =) i wouldnt mind learning how to drift but i believe unless you have a genuine love for the sport, having spare sets of tyres everytime you go to a drift day and the money for it is really not worth it. That said i do know a few people (yes p platers) who believe they can drift, in an FR car and in an FF car... so iuno they think they DK or something everynow and then telling me they hooked a mad corner bro and was fully drifting broooo.
All in all if we sum it up (and im just trying to answer Snoop G's question ) is that I personally believe the reason many people dislike hondas would be due to our governments P plater restrictions which has lead to majority of P platers buying Hondas and hooning around in it, showing bad attitude in terms of driving or modifying it and its popularity theres just so much you can turn a corner and see a couple hondas this way and a couple that way, it just takes out the uniqueness of a car to me and makes it that much more harder for specific said cars to stand out amongs others and be acknowledged because everyone goes down the same route for modifying hondas that ive seen so far, and yes at times it can look nice if done right, but parts are so cheap, almost every hick and joe with a honda have similar parts its just like oh this civics pretty clean, looks nice and all..( get off the highway ), oh look another one.. looks almost the same as the one before and so on its just played out imo ( the whole honda and jdm theme ). With all that said, i can still appreciate a nicely done honda, s2000 and NSX are just sex as well as some tegs and civics but even though i can appreciate a nice one with money invested in the right mods in the right place inside its just not like "wow" to me anymore, nothing special really and sorry if that last sentence offends anyone who owns a honda right now its just my opinion on the matter, they can still be nice cars that stick outa the crowd i reckon you just gotta dare to be different with it. NAs are great cars to drive, very responsive =) if i had to make a choice of my fav NA engines it would prob be an NA 20B or 26B (thats dreaming but) or a 4AGE all with trumpets =P haha, only wouldnt choose a honda due to reasons already stated. Maybe in future my mindset will change if somehow the car tuning scene decideds to swing in a whole different direction but atm thats my view on the Honda thing and reasons why i think some people look down on it or bag it out =)
Yup long post sorry about that haha, it just kept coming as i kept typing =)
Ever!
Congratulations.
