    my definition is basically ,
its always on your mind , whether its from thinking (oh shit did i forget to lock the car or what if someone hits my baby D or just appreciating the curves , shapes and just concepting in your head the countless possibilities of what can be done

giving it a nickname , personalizing it

enjoying every-time you drive it , from driving slow just cruising the streets all the way to testing its limits and giving it some hell
have pride with each thing you do to it and not have care about others opinions

get deliberately lost and go on an adventure and still manage to find your way

i see it as a man and his dog (except its a car lol)
loyalty (reliability) between the both , you treat it well she will be with you forever

and yes josh , elitists can suck a fat one , need more appreciation!!

Personally, I think an Enthusiast is someone who will wash their car inside and out because they're bored, will go cruising just because, spend hours after work/school and on the weekends working on their cars and, at times, wont shut up about them. I find myself bantering on about them for ages to my girlfriend! >.< All of the enthusiasts I know will be able to sit and talk about cars for hours on end and never get bored of it. They live it and breath it.

Amen to that, I know straight males that cannot put a spare wheel on their car but yet call themselves an enthusiast.

If you like cars more than the average person. You're at least to some degree, an enthusiast.

I like the thought behind this but it reads as if it was written by a special needs child.

I really dont believe the OP is asking what a car enthusiast is, he is asking what the difference is between a hoon and a car enthusiast and is really trying to justify why he isnt a hoon hehe

A car enthusiast is someone who builds their car as close to the letter of the law as they can and they build it as an achievement. They wont go out racing their car as they have more respect for not only their car, but the people in public places. They wont risk having their car confiscated as they just are not comfortable with the whole thought. They do their best to drive to the law on the street to try and prevent this happening. They are also very appreciative of all things automotive and can appreciate what has gone into building every brand or style of car.

A hoon is a fuck head who does not give a shit for anything, full stop. They dont believe the Police are here for the better. They do not care about the road rules. They think that industrial estates were built as drift tracks. They generally could not care what happens when things go wrong. Their cars are generally not in the best condition and would very rarely pass a road worthy inspection. Due to this when they get picked on they will rant and rave and call the Police every name under the sun, even though they are the reason their cars have not been maintained. In general they have a chip on their shoulder as well i think

I couldnt agree more. An enthusiast would have written that in a way that made them sound knowledgable about the issues we face as enthusiasts and not made it out to be a dig at ACA. No car enthusiast is going to sign that as it would simply make them look like a fool

^ I disagree to a certain extent. My car wouldnt pass a roadworthy, but IMO a 'roadworthy' relates to the condition of the critical safety components of the car itself. I know my car will perform better (brakes/handling etc in an emergency) than pretty much any car you can buy off a showroom floor > so its a contradiction within itself IMO. It is well looked after by a leading specialist mechanic so I would also deem it 'engineered' to a certain extent, $30K+ in 2 years of ownership in mods & maintenance says otherwise

I know I've pushed the boundaries of the law (ride heights, noise, engine components etc) but I wouldn't be enhancing the 'performance' characteristics of the car if I didnt. I still regard myself as an enthusiast, I drive courteously and respectfully all of the time, I don't risk the safety of others but I would be kidding myself if I said I didn't enjoy the performance aspect of it every now and again. I pick my moments, theres a time and a place and those situations dwindle day by day, but I know when I want to enjoy my car no one or nothing will be hurt/damaged except me or the car

In summary; IMO enthusiasts enjoy their cars and the lifestyle they bring, are mindful of others at all times and keep their cars above and beyond what is expected from a maintenace point of view
